Unlawful Trail Building In the Watershed

Obey the signage folks. No digging in this park

My weekly ride in the Delta Watershed was interrupted today by bylaw officials performing an investigation into the unlawful trail-building taking place along the steep slope of the park. Anyone should be able to see the delicate nature of this area, as it is a steep and eroded bank to begin with. Bylaw officials informed me that several trees had been cut (by chainsaw), and extensive digging had taken place. Those of you who frequent the Watershed know its rather tenuous situation as it pertains to trail-building and structure construction, having seen several forced removals of features over the past 10 years. The parks trails and mountain biking activities are already overseen by SORCE/SHED Bike Club, and any trail maintenance or construction is undertaken by this group. Whomever has taken it upon themselves to build in this area is creating a potentially dangerous future for mountain biking in a park that already has a ton of pressure upon it. Please, whoever you are, STOP IMMEDIATELY.
If you happen to see whoever these culprits are, I implore you to contact Bylaw Inspector Nathan Bourelle, 604 946 3342. nbourelle@delta.ca
