So far our trip has been awesome! The Pinkbike crew drove me back from Monterey to Bellingham on Monday and then I hopped in with Metzger at the Transition HQ and now I find myself in Grand Junction, Colorado. Lots to tell inside!

Ranch Style
Day 1 - DrivingOriginally I was supposed to fly from California to Colorado when Sea Otter was over, but plans flunked and it seemed I wasn’t going to make it out to Ranch Style this year. After taking the win there last year, I had to go this year no matter what.
I ended up driving from California to the Transition Factory in Ferndale, Washington and hung out there for a few days. After back tracking about 15hrs myself, Mike Metzger, Joe Perizzo, and Ben Glassen took off on Wednesday morning to Grand Junction Colorado.
The road trip started off really well. We grabbed a bunch of movies and just sat back and enjoyed the drive. Things never seem to go as they are supposed to. I was watching the movie “Year One” when I noticed that Mike was pulling over onto the side of the freeway. I unplugged my headphones and asked what was up. Well, the engine was smoking!

Thunder Shark!
We got Mike to drive up a little embankment so we could get under the van. Mike and I investigated and noticed that the dipstick to the transition fluid was sticking out. Sure enough the housing that the dipstick slips into was separated. After a few burns on my arms we attached the tubing and checked the fluid, we were good to go!

Luxurious
Day 2 – Step up and course practiceThe drive was long, but the day went by fast. Next thing I knew, we were at the Black Bear Café in Grand Junction, Colorado, home of Ranch Style! After we ate breakfast, Mike got a hold of James Flatten from Grassroots Cycles and we met at their bike shop and headed up to the Ranch!

The day was super fun and Graham Agassiz and Eric Lawrenuk showed up at the ranch just after we had. We rode the course for a hour or so then headed to the gully step up. The session was fun, but we really wanted to make it bigger. After an hour or more of digging we had the jump we were looking for. The session was unreal. Tons of tricks. Didn’t take us long to get warmed up and throw down on the course.

Indian Air
We headed back to our hotel and made ourselves at home then walked out of the room and into Denny’s for dinner. Skye Schillhammer’s plane had arrived at 9pm and we got him to taxi to our hotel so he could join up with us. Finally had a night to recover and gain back our sleep.
Day 3 – Course Go Pro Today was a wicked day of riding. The temperature was perfect, but there was a fair bit of wind blowing all day, but that didn’t stop us from riding and getting in a few runs! We killed it on the course today while rocking out with our New Go Pro HD helmet cameras. Finally we were able to hit the now finished Whale Tale stunt (step on, step off). It worked super well and it will be cool to see what gets throw off the end of it.
I filmed a course run through video for you guys so
check it out!Casey Groves------------
