Brett Rheeder has announced that he is retiring from competitions, going out on top with his incredible comeback win at Rampage last October. He announced on his Instagram page that he’s “calling it” after ten years in freeride and slopestyle competition.

bigquotesAfter competing in 10 years of freeride and slopestyle competition, I’m calling it here, this run being my last.

For 2023 I’ve decided to take the final step away from all competition, focusing time on progressing my riding in new ways, creating new media, having fun with social media, and, although I won’t be competing, helping develop the next generation of slopestyle and freeride as a whole; its courses, its athletes, its training grounds, its products.

This marks a new chapter in my career. One I’m grateful for and stoked to kick off soon!

Lots more to come.
Brett Rheeder

i hear he's developing a Kindle competitor called the eRheeder

@rickybobby18: Well, of course he's Canadian so it will have to be eh'Rheeder.

Yeah, he was getting pretty old and it was sad seeing him not doing too well anyways so its a logical move.

@scott-townes: If that was a joke... It was a pretty funny one

@rickybobby18: If you didn't steal, then kudos for the cleverness.

Congratulations Brett, you're the person I'd most like to go for a ride with, ever! Not because you're an amazing rider, but because you come across as a thoughtful, articulate, polite nice guy, you can be funny too in that goofy lovable way, just not afraid of being yourself in a world of bro brah's. Looking forward to seeing what you'll be up to! Thanks for your contributions to MTB.

First time I seen Brett ride in person The final Claymore challenge Highland Mt 2012 He finished 2nd to Brandon who won all of them Brett, the manual to front flip off the drop was the shit I thought you had the best run Thanks for all the thrills since Bud, Cheers!

he's been in the game a long time and has nothing left to prove. And his hair makes mermaids weep with jealously.

Up to 1/3 of men resent this statement.

@nickfranko: as a man rockin’ the Stadium (no not the actual stadium, the pattern of baldness on top of my head), I endorse this statement.

Well deserved, Brett. You were one of the best. Smart to leave on a big win, and healthy.
  • 62 0
This is rad. Brett is one of the few top dogs giving back to mountain biking. Creating a component company and supporting up and coming athletes is v commendable.

I heard Only Fans sponsors pro riders. Exclusive bike porn content he can sell
  • 37 4
Damn, but how will he make tens of dollars from freeride competitions?!
  • 23 0
Great choice to end on high note. Champions should go out like that!
  • 2 0
Although bad choice to say "this run being my last".... He basically just said "One last run"... I thought everyone knew you never, ever say that!!
  • 2 0
 @bigtim: He said it after
  • 20 0
Enjoy retirement. Until you want to come out and just win the contest again like you did with proving grounds…
  • 3 1
Though I really look forward to the “new media”! I generally prefer creating your own content versus competitions.

 Smarter than Tom Brady.

Tom Brady is 45 years old, has 7 rings, 3 League MVPs and 5 Super Bowl MVP, in addition to being worth 250Million dollars..... I am not sure a freerider who is hanging it up at 29, and....I am not going to assume too much here, but......is likely not also worth a quarter billion dollars, is inherently smarter than Captain Dreamboat. lol FTR, I hate Brady....but come the fuck on with this comment. LMFAO

Brady threw for 5,300+ yards last year with 43 freaking TDs vs only 12 ints
Thats better than 99% of all QB seasons in the 100 years of NFL history
Yer not very smart, ditto for everyone downvoting Mtbdialed. I like both athletes alot, and both can be winners not just one or other, but mtbdialed's opening paragraph says all that needs to be said.
  • 8 11
@kaybeee: can't argue with emotions or stupid.....

when you're downvoted for stating facts(that are f*cking googlable), you know it's just a bunch of menstrating bitches wallowing in their feels. lol
  • 17 1
@kaybeee: I don't know much about American football but Brett Rheeder didn't throw any interceptions last year...
  • 14 0
@Mtbdialed: Nobody's downvoting you for stating googleable facts (at least I did not). However, I did downvote you for including the amount of money in TB's bank account as a valid argument for his smartness.
  • 1 0
 @mi-bike: thats fair
  • 2 1
@beeekay: not just fair, also smart
  • 2 4
@mi-bike: intelligence takes many forms. ability to negotiate contracts, save and invest, as well as not buy Bugatti's and Patek Phillippe watches, is pretty solid evidence of it.
  • 3 2
@beeekay: The point is that Brady didn't go out when he was on top, but Rheeder did.

Rheeder also didn't trash a stable marriage to a devoted supermodel whose net worth is nearly twice his own and who gave up her own career to support his and have kids. It's not just about the 5,300 yds, 43 TDs and 12 INTs.
  • 2 3
@kabanosipyvo: lol. do you know what broke them up?

also, Brady hasn't gone out yet, so no telling if he goes out on top when he does.
  • 1 1
 @Mtbdialed: What broke them up? It's googlable...lol.
  • 13 1
Man. Seen some ignorant posts in here already. Far as I'm concerned.... you're a legend. Congrats on your success and you've left nothing else to be proven. I wish you the best in your future projects, business and personal.

I am thinking about retirement from racing, too. Just so you know.

Coming from Ontario he showed everyone that has to commute to "destination riding" that it is possible to succeed if you want it bad enough. Obviously raw talent will trump desire any day, but the fact he did what he did and where he did it all from at the start is awesome! Yes I'm from Ontario. Rheedog 4 Prime Minister!
  • 3 0
A career wouldn't have been possible without moving to BC. Another example is Vanderham
  • 2 0
Ontario checking in. Not many options around here. Does sneaking across the border to Camp Fortune count as Ontario riding? Not many options for DH and freedride but we make the most of what we have.
  • 1 0
@skiboot1: Does he live in Revy or Vernon?
  • 1 0
@TheEradicator: Dagmar, Uxbridge, Copeland Forest, the Don Valley... theres gems in the GTA and its surroundings. North Bay has some nice lil DH trails. And Ive heard The Soo is pretty amazing but I havent gotten there yet, been too busy driving east for Bromont or south to Pisgah...

Hey, Brett, I've enjoyed watchin you perform remarkable feats over the years, my good man. It's insane what you can do on a bicycle. I think you can feel at peace with your decision, leaving the competition scene on top of your game. Now you can enjoy a side of biking, and life, that doesn't, I suspect, necessarily involve pressure to perform, or please expectations, both yours and those of others. Enjoy! If I ever see you at Silver Star, I'll say hello.

So being N1 sadly today is not about winning the most outrageous competition but having the most views on YB is what underlines to me this decision. Good part of it is freedom.

He'll be there. Even though it's a juged event Rampage is a major Event in free ride rather than a comp
  • 17 20
He realized he was unfairly judged and Godziek got robbed so why continue.

Second that, with a side of Semenuk
