by Christina Chappetta

Daily Drivers, along with Christina Chappetta, hit the open road to enjoy the sunshine in California for the Sea Otter Classic. Not only did we meet some truly lovely folks but the bikes were eclectic, to say the least.

Autoplay AND an ad??? Oh dear, this is not going to go well.
  • 28 0
This is what I’ve always wanted

There's a reason they went to their own video player: they wanted that ad revenue and YouTube wasn't enough.

I used uBlock origin to block the entire player so it can never play

It's almost like this website is a business trying to make money. Tut!

@Rantallion: That's fine ofcourse, but they won't be running a business if they ignore our wishes too much.

I think mountain biking was born a million times when rubber hit dirt but I have to give credit for its growth to Marin County. The list of important players that made mountain bikes commercially viable that were all there together is unreal.
  • 8 0
It might have been there first but it was also the first place where some file-shifters shut it down.
  • 5 0
@chrsei: Shut it down? Nah, there are epic trails in Marin, they may be unsanctioned, but they are ridden frequently, by many who know where to go.
  • 3 0
@MOBrules: but that defeats the whole point of Marin being the first area of major support for mtb, people have been riding on dirt for as long as bikes existed, but people seeing it as a legitimate sport is what was groundbreaking

I, like a fine wine, age with time.

Don’t bother watching this if you are actually interested in learning anything about the bikes featured.

Watched the first 2 then gave up.

Yeah, she asked for feedback on the format, didn't enjoy. Give us the details on the bikes, it's bike check!

f*ck man, nobody knows about MT. Tam being the birthplace of MTB?
  • 11 0
Not every 30-something knows or cares about the Fairfax hippies who started the thing or the Colorado stoners who did pretty much the same thing at the same time but don't get the credit.
  • 1 0
@suspended-flesh: when you say did the same thing, did they start mountain bike companies? Because lots of kids rode bikes in the woods before it was done in Marin. That’s an honest question. Where can I learn more about these CO hippies?
  • 4 0
@FatSanch: No, they didn't explode the sport with bike builders like the Marinites did - my comment was more of a tip of the hat to the Crested Butte/Gunnison crew who also consider themselves originators of the sport. Google has the details if you're interested. I'm no expert, just old.

Dave Smith getting his moment! Good dude.
  • 5 0
I met Dave when he was running a Shuttle from Aptos to Demo. Rode with him at Demo a few times. Really chill guy with a great vibe and a Demon on the bike! Those were some epic sessions.
  • 5 0
@WillStax: I think he sold the company and the name Shuttle Smith lives on. At 66 he still wins or podiums darn near every race he enters on that same bike. He won the 60+ Open DH on Sunday.

 Dave is the man.

Good stuff Christina, some sweet bikes there.

Single speed session ? But it has a derailleur.
  • 3 1
it’s a derailleur tensioner, full suspension (especially DH bikes) need one for the chain. do some research a bunch of companies make sweet ones!
  • 1 1
@watin831: yea haha yea that makes sense.. I have a crappy phone and couldn't see it very well I noticed on second watch no cassette which is a dead giveaway to single speed as well.
