The Highlands of Scotland are known to for its mountains and the legendary Fort William World Cup track, but in Autumn 2016, the Velosolutions crew set out to build something a lot smoother in the Highland city of Inverness.
Built just a stone's throw from the River Ness, the 300-meter Velosolutions Asphalt Pumptrack features a total of 12 berms and more transfer lines than you could imagine!
200 tons of Velosolutions custom asphalt were used to build it, giving the pump track an amazingly fast surface. With loads of grip yet so smooth that skateboards can use it too.
“It’s close to snowboarding” Ally Campbell, a local skater says.
The track also has a kids’ pump track and beginner loop.
The opening day saw a mix of local legends, kids, BMXers, and skaters all sessioning the track. Riders were hitting all kinds of lines and the session went on into the evening thanks to the floodlights installed around the track.
“I think it’s amazing, today we have 3-year-olds on the small track and we have young men here, who are really experts, thoroughly enjoying it. It’s amazing and I’m delighted”
Helen Carmichael, Provost of Inverness.
The project was organized by a dedicated group of individuals, who formed the charity Highland Skate Parks Association. After getting Inverness skate park built back in 2013 on the site of an old 80s BMX track, HSPA decided that the plot of land next door would be perfect for a pump track and appointed Velosolutions to design and build the new cutting edge facility. HSPA sourced funding to build the track from Sport Scotland, Viridor, WREN, EB Scotland Landfill fund, Inverness Common Good Fund and a local charitable trust.
This is the first Velosolutions Asphalt Pumptrack for Scotland, but we will be starting construction on another in Scotland in 2017 in a city with a much larger population...
