Red Bull Night Shift - Clemson, SC

Clemson Freeride will be hosting the second annual Red Bull Night Shift. It's done at night with little more than a headlamp and some serious cojones! There will be riding all day, open to absolutely anyone, and racing at night for the top 24 collegiate riders from qualifying.

It's going to be good times, good people, and great riding. Don't miss it!

When you think of South Carolina, you don't typically think of awesome trails or a big riding scene, but there are a few exceptions and Clemson University is one of them. For those that have been here before you know that there are some awesome XC trails around Lake Issaqueena and throughout the rest of the Experimental Forest as well as an ever-evolving DH/Freeride course full of big jumps, sculpted berms, and a huge wall ride. There is a dedicated team of riders and trail builders that spend countless hours at the trail, digging and building new features.

We're Clemson Freeride, Clemson's extreme mountain biking club, and we want you at this weekend's race! This Saturday, November 13th, we will be hosting Red Bull's Night Shift Race, a night time DH race where riders use headlamps to make their way down the trail with the fastest time possible. Many of the features will be lit for safety but for the rest of the trail, it's just you and your headlamp.

The event is open to the public. Anyone may ride during the day, drink free Red Bull, and listen to some sick tunes from the live DJ! The night race portion will be open to COLLEGIATE RIDERS ONLY. Please don't let this deter you though; regardless if you (are crazy enough to) race at night, this event is going to be a blast! The course opens up to the public at 10:00am and qualifying runs will start around 3pm. The top 24 riders will be eligible to race at night.

Our trail is unlike any other. It's fast, flowy, littered with fun features, and built 100% by hand. Here's a quick preview of our trail filmed by ZFH Productions at last year's South East Collegiate Cycling Conference Finals. Note that many things have since changed, but it still captures the essence that is Clemson Freeride. I hope this sparks interest for those of you that weren't considering going otherwise!

Also, here's a pic of our newest feature, finished today! It's oh so smooth.

We definitely do! It gets a little chilly in January and February but thats just a good reason to build more. Last year, day after Christmas, I rode in jeans and a t-shirt. Can't beat that! If you're ever thinking about coming down shoot me a message and I'll try to meet up with ya.

unclesmokey, come on down to our open race in early 2011, when you're all snowed in and itching to ride. It will be well worth the trip. We usually have cabin fevered riders come from all over the eastern seaboard to start off their season. The official date and announcement for the 2011 open race will come shortly after this nightshift race takes place.

Racing at night simply adds to the thrill and excitement of riding! There will be open riding all day long too, if you're not sure about racing at night, don't let that stop you from coming to the event! We've recently done a ton of work getting the trail ready for this event and I believe you'd enjoy it whether or not you raced at night. Granted, the drive might be a bit long for ya! Then again, we have had folks from New Jersey and Pennsylvania come down just for one of our races!
