Here are my first impressions on my new riding jacket.
Dakine Blitz Jacket http://ca.dakine.com/p/bike/jackets/2013-summer/blitz-jacket?clr=001
Price- MSRP $185 CDN
2.5 Layer nylon dobby 10,000mm waterproof / 10,000mm breathable membrane, fully tapped seams, pit zips and venting on the back panel.
The coat looks great and does not look like a cycling specific jacket. It is a standard black hardshell jacket and not flashy.
Dakine calls it a freeride fit and Pink Bike even suggested going a size down. I purchased the large and it fits great. I normally wear a large and this jacket fits me true to size. If you have a slimmer body type but require a large, this jacket would be a bit bulky through the chest/mid section. The arms fit a little slimmer than my previous jackets but still fits well and feels good while riding. The velcro cuffs close tight and work well with biking gloves. The jacket collar is not super high and does not get in the way of helmet straps. I have not layered up this jacket yet but there is room for a medium weight fleece.
I have only had the Blitz for about 2 weeks and so far I am impressed. I have used the jacket riding on cool days and in the rain. The jacket seems to breath well and I am happy with the water resistance. I am also very happy with the fit and styling of this jacket. The only downfall of the coat so far is one of the hood pull cords came un-stitched right away but it was an easy fix. The price point of the product combined with Dakine’s warranty program (limited lifetime warranty), make this jacket pretty good bang for your buck.
