Video: The Short Cut

Shortcut:
Road racing is intense stuff. It starts with sacrifice and determination parlayed into tactical moves across the track. It’s marked by marathon training schedules, high-torque diets of diesel and kale extract, aerospace-grade technology ingrained into bikes built to catapult riders to the podium, head-to-toe spandex and, of course, mastering the intricacies of hair-removal below the knees.

But, the real successes always lie in the shortcuts. In this edit of the Ekoi/Devinci pro team at Mardi Cycliste de Lachine, Canada’s biggest Criterium series, the virtues of the road less traveled are evident. Sandwiched between start gun and finish line Devinci’s “road cycling” team delivers everything from wall rides to skate-park session to stream dipping and chick hopping, all the while still finishing first. Devinci Leo SL. Express your freedom to ride.

Cheers,

i wonder how many wheelsets they went through filming this...

In the one with Martin Ashton, (idk if you saw that) they only had to change two innertubes. They are surprisingly durable
  • 15 0
^ I actually think they only had one blowout when he was doing the skid around the turn.

I love these "freestyle" roadie vids. It's so impressive and entertaining. I wonder who will be the first to send a slope course on one Wink

easternripper- it's hard to forget one of the most insane things done on a road bike, haha. To be honest that's the reason why I think it'd be possible. Now all we need is to see someone 360 a 12ft. drop to dirt!

I am pretty sure at :49 the replaced that wheel.

Yes, we've all seen the Martyn Ashton video, but the story of taking a shortcut in a criterium was unique. I loved it!

If one guy did this during a real race it would be sick.

You know what's better for trails than a road bike with the saddle down, the bars in a horrible position and flat pedals?

A trials bike.
  • 6 3
Now this is what i call trials, im amazed that road bike didnt explode into many pieces
  • 18 1
Anyone else notice that he was wearing vans!

road bikes are actually pretty tough.

flag spiderdonut007 (Sep 9, 2013 at 17:03) (Below Threshold)
 true but not that tough
  • 3 2
I wouldn't say road bike are tough per se. They are probably stronger than most people think. But the fact of the matter is that usually when they break, it's under normal [road] riding conditions. I wouldn't be surprised if the frame used in the video has some internal cracking going on. If sprinting up a hill can crack a road frame, then certainly bunnyhopping a ledge gap can do the same, if not worse.
  • 1 2
riight because when im thinking of buying a road bike first thing on my mind is how well it will performs on a skate park. and if that was my concern then ill go for pinarrelo. sorry guys but this kind of videos dont sell road bikes, putting your teams on podiums does.
  • 3 0
I race road bikes myself (in addition to mtb), but you sounds like the super-serious roadie stereotype. Lighten up and enjoy!
  • 2 0
I ride MTB and break everything, seriously, SRAM and Shimano probably hate me because I have warrantied so many new parts....I want a road bike for fitness, I always say I would break one in 5 minutes, but what I have seen in this video, and others, I am mistaken. My lbs is having a problem selling road bikes, this appeals to a wider market.
  • 3 1
Would have been so much better without the white spandex close-ups
  • 2 1
Can we as a brotherhood make this the last time we say bunny hop? PB er's please! open to suggestions.
  • 4 3
get a vid of peter sagan, he could do all of this and more without changing anything on his bike
  • 1 0
Would be awesome to see a vid with Sagan. He's the man! Thought the video was pretty cool until I noticed he was flats, would have been way more badass if he was clipped in the whole time.
  • 1 0
I think this is the only time I've seen flats get a neg prop on PB. You crazy.
  • 1 0
you haven't seen sagan then, he could do all of this riding and then go on to win a tour de france stage, I'd like to see the rider in the vid do that
  • 1 0
I like how his hoods return to normal height when he crosses the finish line.
  • 1 0
Peter Sagan practicing this with SPD pedals, besides that win the stages, by the way ..,

Brilliant! This is why I come to Pink Bike! All those lycra queens can eat there hearts out!
  • 2 0
Did you know there are actually people who are secure enough to wear lycra when it's appropriate to do so? Do you think that Hart, Gwin, Athertons, etc do their road bike training wearing baggies? I have full DH gear for when I'm riding DH or at the bike park and full lycra for when I'm in a road race. Guess I'm a lame lycra queen like all the other DH racers who cross-train on their roadbikes....
