Must Watch: Georgia Astle Testing Her Limits in 'Flip The Switch'

Jan 17, 2023 at 5:13
by Cycles Devinci

If you don’t have role models to look up to, it’s harder to progress as a rider. Georgia Astle grew up chasing her older brother. “If he could do it, I could do it” she figured. But that could only take her so far.

As Geo developed as a racer, she learned to push herself. She got comfortable “flipping the switch” and pushing against the clock. But when Geo looked beyond racing, there weren’t a lot of women pushing the limits of freeride. Until all of a sudden, there was.

Watch Georgia Astle explore some of British Columbia’s most striking landscapes, on a search for terrain to push her riding, inspired by a rising tide of female freeriders around the world.

Such a great video. Gorgeous all the way through but the shot at 2:21 is breath-taking.
The whole team ; rider, director, composer, sound designer, photographer have created something wonderful. Congrats.

Thanks @rossco2210! Super lucky that Georgia was so dedicated to this project. We spent 14 days filming this over the course of six months last season (which is much longer than a typical web edit). Can't make something like this without Geo putting in the hard work, as well as the awesome collaborators who worked on this in the edit. Also need to thank Devinci for being so accommodating with the schedule too!

I didn't have to finish the video or see the credits to know that was another Scott Secco's piece of art. And with Georgia Astle's ride, it's a true masterpiece

Damn you @scottsecco for makin us all feel feelings and stuff through the art of moving pictures. You a*shole.

I think that's from the music! Amine Bouzaher composed the song and it really does the heavy lifting.

@scottsecco: Oh is that what you think, that the minimalist piano accenting the airy string ensemble swells leading into beautiful ascending arpeggios and staccato violin creates and emotional response? That pairing that music with the heartfelt story telling and brilliant riding of Georgia Astle would elicit some sort of bubbling up of feelings and memories the viewer may not fully understand within them self? I bet you'd think that you son of a bitch.

Social Media and edits combine to let us all get a better picture of an athlete (even though it may often be fabricated). Either way I've always gotten this feeling that Georgia is the real deal. Attitude, stoke, talent, etc...

Wow, I have not commented on a post in years! This was absolutely gorgeous! The filming and story telling was wonderful! It's hard to enjoy videos these days with how saturated it is with content, but this was a hell of treat! Cheers to all involved!

Thanks Justin! Your photos were always super inspirational to me back in 2009 when you were getting all those POD’s.

That was awesome! Georgia has quite a stellar attitude--and is an amazing rider.

That second picture is ... a tiny bit steeper than I'm comfortable with
  • 6 0
 Yup.

What's worse is it looks approximately 50° steeper in person.

@mobiller: I know. I've had numerous trails where the video looked very doable and there were some parts in it that were definite 'nope, let's walk this part'. If it looks scary in a video, I'm not even going to try...

Great riding. Damn that was a well shot mtb piece. Even if it was an ad. It definitely raises the bar,

Whaaaa... such a beautiful and inspiring video. Godspeed you Georgia. You're Great Smile

You all killed it in this video girl and guys! Epic shots of a rad rider in incredible BC. You know it's a good video when it feels like it lasts 30 seconds only and press play again right after the end.

@scottsecco .... Can we see the BTS of you shredding with 5 bags on you and your bike? Big Grin

Hours of waiting for light, hiking up hills with too much gear, swatting bugs the size of small birds, his vehicle breaking down multiple times. But this secco guy didn’t loose his temper once!
  • 2 0
@georgiaa: aha sounds like a great and fun program. It was all worth it, awesome work!!

I never saw Scott loosing his temper.. even hike a biking an e-bike, riding steep gnar with multiples bags... or crashing his drone after 20min starting the ride ahah. Scott is the man! Spending time with him is always good times.

Wonder what the measured distance on that was. I'm guessing...900 feet based on pucker factor.

Thanks Scott!! Too kind man, really stoked you enjoyed it! There might be a couple funny iPhone clips to come, but no official BTS.

Why is there autoplay on every PB video, but not on articles like these where the video is the whole point?

 Inspiring!

Funny, or actually not funny, I came away from this video feeling sad and borderline angry. While apparently everyone else was thinking “cool”, “inspiring”, “send it”, I was thinking “what an unnecessary, senseless, and wanton amount of damage was done to the landscape”. I can almost hear the conversation, “OK Georgia, let’s shoot that scene again. Only this time really send it. Try to kick up as much dirt and gravel as you can. It’ll be rad!”

 That was sick
