Waiau-toa Odyssey team are ecstatic to release the full-length film of our epic bike rafting adventure. Awarded the Hiddleston/MacQueen Award for the Best NZ Made Film for the 2017 NZ Mountain Film Festival in Wanaka! After the award, it has been on a national tour of New Zealand for the last five months.

Three adventurers, a film-maker, and a photographer set off on a six-day, 300km unsupported journey. By combining new bike-packing and pack-rafting technology, they link together white-water rivers and backcountry tracks through some of NZ’s under appreciated wilderness areas. To add to the drama, only months before a massive earthquake changes their plans and reveals opportunities to explore new landscapes.

That was great. I'd have liked to watch that at the Cinema Paradiso, without doubt the coolest picture house I've ever visited. Preferably with a nice bottle of Monteith's.

That was really cool. My mates and were fortunate enough to borrow some demo Alpacka Rafts this weekend and did a simple ride up a local river and then paddled back down over this past weekend. These rafts are really well built, super comfortable an they handled very well, even with our fat bikes strapped on the front of the boat. Seriously considering picking one up next year to replace the entry level packraft I purchased last season.

"NZ’s under appreciated wilderness areas" - none of it's under appreciated, it's just takes longer to get to.

When there's wilderness on your doorstep not many people are too worried about going the extra distance.

I was luck enough to travel to New Zealand many years ago and hike along those river valleys. Just stunning scenery

Wouldn't catch me submerging my bike in the water ????
  • 1 0
Isn't submerging your bike in water just your normal summer everyday ride in England. Besides fresh water is fine you just need to re-greaae bearings from time to time
  • 2 0
I found bearings no problem, even with the packraft flipping once they didn't get water in them, BUT...have u ever noticed the little holes in your seat stays and chain stays, I got about 100ml water in there, took a bit of a surgical operation to get it out. Note to self tape them up in future.
