Hell yeah Skillz with Phil! Top 20 finish beating out Gwin and a grip of other top racers. I should probably pay more attention to the tips in his youtube videos
Hey man thanks for the kind words, I didn't think Pinkbike would take notice
I do have to say, Gwin definitely had a mishap his first split was off, and I know Bas for burped his tire really early on his run. Also while I'm here, I'm really impressed with Rheeder's result. Not many slopestyle riders can do what he did, it goes to show just how well rounded he is.
@andrew8404: You are high-sure you could ride a trail bike at summit, but the place is SO clapped out, a DH bike would be wiser, and it's funner to ride a DH.
Sure a DH bike is always fun. It’s not a knock just saying an Enduro bike is more then capable at a lot of parks especially Snow Summit. Sure there’s some tech there but not a lot @stikmanglaspell:
@andrew8404: Have you ridden 10-Ply? One can get down pretty quick just fine on a trail bike, but if you want to fully commit to all the fast lines on this trail and be competitive in a race like this, you need a DH bike. Literally everywhere else in the park, you're just fine on an enduro bike. Hell, I rode a Smuggler all weekend and set some PRs.
Exactly. Like I said the park itself is nothing crazy but there are some good tech sections but not many. If you think it’s techy you need to visit more parks @scvkurt03:
@andrew8404: Not sure how “I set PRs on a Smuggler” gets turned into me thinking SS is techy... I’ll take the lack of response to my question as a no, that you haven’t ridden 10 Ply, which is understandable - I wouldn’t come out to SS from out of state. I’ll put it this way: you can ride Westy/PW/Miracle as fast or faster on a trail bike, but DH wins on 10 Ply, period.
Not sure how you imply that my comment about not needing a DH bike in Snow Summit doesn’t mean you can’t ride one?? I lived near by before 10 Ply was put in. I’ve watched several videos and 10ply has some steep/techy sections no doubt. But nothing sketchy enough to warrant a DH bike. Sure it will improve speed and make you feel more comfortable. But a pro rider can ride any trail with any bike and be fast. Phil obviously has skills and the GT is a beastly Enduro bike that can handle it no problem. So my point is I’m not very surprised he placed top 20 on a Enduro bike because one isn’t needed in Snow Summit. @scvkurt03:
@andrew8404: Never said you need a DH bike to ride this trail fast. I said you *need* one to win a race of this caliber. Sure, you can pick any of the enduro riders that also rode DH and say "look, enduro bike", but you're ignoring the fact that literally 60 of the 65 riders in the race chose a DH bike, including women's winner Jill Kintner who recently rode and won National Champs in CO on a trail bike. You're just wrong about this one, a trail you've never even seen except on some GoPro video, which has always been a crap way to evaluate trails.
Dude, you got some serious issues. Who cares? You have your opinion and I have mine. It’s a DH race so yes most people will use a DH bike because that’s what they use to race. Just like Sea Otter DH race. Is that a true DH race? No but people still use DH bike because that’s the main bike they use to race with. People have even used Enduro bikes on World Cup tracks. I don’t see what your trying to argue?? I’m not surprised someone using an Enduro bike got a top 20 finish are you??? Am I wrong about that? No, your trying to argue something that doesn’t even need to be argued. I think your missing the whole point. @scvkurt03:
@andrew8404: You make a dumb point about not needing a DH bike in a thread about a DH race, get called out, can't deal with it, and I have issues... ok.
Bummed for Gwin, he slid out right before the new jump they built up top. Minnaar was flowin all weekend. Bruni..on point. And Great to see all the top guys in Cali racing and having fun. Hope it comes back around next year. Shout out to Cam McCaul, Rheeder and Bas VAn Steenbergen being super friendly and cool to my star struck boy.
@bizutch: Missy's knee was having issues, so she played it smart and did not do final run. Leigh D smashed her face on a rock, did not race, so the legends show was cancelled haha.
Loic and Minnaar 1st and 2nd, hmmm, love em but seems to be personal attack on home soil when Gwin is not 100% because of battle field shrapnel from Vallnord and Creek. However Chris Kovarik, Kyle Strait, and Bas Van Stenbergen all came to his aid but took fire from the Frenches (allegedly). "2020"

Peace out, dude.
Am I close @stikmanglaspell ?
With all do respect, healing vibes for the gals!
Dudes a champ.
Anybody else had a serious shoulder injury and still ride?
