PRESS RELEASE: Pivot CyclesPivot have announced the release of their redesigned and updated Shuttle eMTB. The bike has more power and range than the previous shuttle. It uses Shimano's EP8 motor and a 726 watt/hour battery in a full-carbon frame.
The new EP8 motor is lighter, quieter, and more powerful than its predecessor. It complements the Shuttle's progressive geometry, capable suspension, and aesthetics. The dw-link suspension and metric sized Fox DPX2 shock provide 140mm of suspension which is paired with a 160mm travel Fox 38 fork.
| With the new Shuttle, we build on our vision of making an insanely capable all-mountain bike that cleanly incorporates electric-assist. With more aggressive geometry, a super-refined integrated design, and a big increase in suspension performance matched to a perfectly tuned dw-link design, the new Shuttle is an incredibly fun bike even without mentioning that it’s pedal assist. Add the superior performance of Shimano’s new EP8 system and the bike’s incredible range and you get a whole new level of eMTB experience.—Chris Cocalis, Founder of Pivot Cycles |
Shimano's EP8 motor is at the heart of the new bike. With its now smoother assist ratio algorithms and smooth power level transitions, it helps riders manage more technical terrain. Coupled to a 726 watt/hour battery, riders can take advantage of additional performance to ride farther and explore deeper. With one bar left, charge time is approximately 2 to 2.5 hours and up to five hours for a dead battery. Pivot's in-house testing claims that an average rider using a combination of all three assist modes can easily ride up to 4 hours on a single battery charge.
The new drive unit is 380 grams lighter and more compact than its predecessor thanks to a new magnesium case. With 85 NM of controllable torque, EP8 is 21% more powerful than before. Refined software with a newly optimized Trail mode features smarter assist ratio algorithms, creating fluid-smooth power level transitions on even the steepest, most technical trails.
The bike comes standard with a 726 W/hr battery but also has a 635 and 508 W/hr. option. The battery is removable with a two-bolt system.
Riders between 5'3" and 6'7" can be accommodated with Pivot's sizing.
Pricing, Specifications, and Availability: The new Shuttle will be available in Treeline Green with orange accents. The Shuttle is available as a complete bike in our Team XTR build configuration priced at a $10,999 USD MSRP. The Shuttle is available now, in all sizes, at key Pivot dealers worldwide.

didn't read anything, so maybe it's better? But it's NOT better looking...

But let's assume a typical battery lasts 1,000 charging cycles and you're getting about 30 miles per charge. That's 30,000 miles. Should be a solid 10 years for all but the most committed mountain biker.
And to answer your question do you still use a 5 year old computer, they and their batteries go who knows where but doubt 10% get recycled.
Most consumer stuff the same, that's the beauty of bikes so simple they can last forever.
Now we are way deep in to this concept. Anyways, we should choose brands that are better to the enviroment than regulate the individual carbon footprint, In my opinion, we can reduce the amount poluted simply by choosing the right brand, the right entrepreneur, instead of blaming someone that wanted an electric bike.
Also: The motor I think is developed to 95+ % of efficiency. The controller will certainly be upgraded and batteries too. Batteries are easy to swap, and the controller will depend on cables and sensors. Very very easy in my opinion, regarding the complexity involved in designing and producing.
Turns out a beer belly is 'Progressive'. Awesome, I'll have a pint please.
Pivot is [very clearly] putting a marketing spin on their naming conventions. ....which works fine for any given market at large, but is not appreciated by people in the know. The people who know what's up lose respect for that bullshit.
I don't care if it's function over form. Awful.
The rational adult in me says you shouldn't spend a significant amount of your annual income on a bicycle that depreciates rapidly. If you can't afford to pay cash for it you probably shouldn't get it. The kid in me though says buy the damn bike. We're not here for that long, might as well hit some sweet jumps.
You always should put down as little as possible in my opinion. It’s easier to pay 100 dollars a month (or whatever it is) than it is to save up 10k dollars again.
Same thing with cars, you put as little down as you possibly can because you never get that money back
Anyone paying cash for stuff that can be financed at 2-3% is likely poor as they are also likely unintelligent.
Financing things doesn’t have to mean you can’t pay cash for them.
And if you’re a young guy and want your dream bike, who cares...I say yolo. It isn’t going to bankrupt you if you have a job. Life is too short.
Paying cash is just a good practice to keep you from over-extending yourself financially.
Don’t learn this lesson the way I had to, clawing my way out of debt in my thirties because I spent on credit like an idiot in my twenties (mostly low interest, btw). I’m finally debt free (besides my mortgage) and it’s amazing how quickly I can save now that I have no monthly debt obligations. Just some food for thought but it’s a free country. Yolo and deal with the consequences later.
I think if you know your financial situation and do the math to pay it off before deferred interest , and you can afford that payment it is a no brainer . They are literally loaning you money for nothing and you don’t have to pull a massive amount of cash out.
And if you take the money you would’ve spent and put it in some type of interest bearing account that’s even better!
I suspect the issue when a battery completely dies is that the cell's imbalance becomes even more exacerbated, and it takes longer to get them all evened out.

Maybe put even a quarter of the budget of Pinkbime Academy back into some stuff mountain bikers would actuallybe interested in instead of doubling your advertising/advertorial content and spending it making pseudo-TV shows.
Jason Lucas even said on the last podcast they were partly aiming at a non-mtb specific viewer for the show...
WTF??!! Why ?
How soon we forget.
