Video: Cam Zink Training to Send 150-Foot Record-Breaking Backflip

Jul 21, 2019 at 13:26
by Daniel Sapp

After shoulder surgery, Cam Zink is back at it, training for a 150-foot backflip to break a world record.

bigquotesThis project has been years in the making; since the day I set the Guiness World Record for longest backflip on a bicycle, it has been on my mind.

Over the last few years, I have been trying to obtain support for it, but after trying for so long I realized I have to make it happen on my own and build the jump on my own property and produce this whole project. However, it takes a village and there are a lot of people who this wouldn't happen without. Ray Syron, Mike Power, JP Preston, Damon Iwanaga, Dustin Lindgren, and others. Adidas/ Five Ten has now committed to the project, so hats off to them and thanks for the support!

I was trying to get to 150 feet last year but my shoulder started coming out very easily shortly after flipping 110 feet. This is the first time hitting the ramp since shoulder surgery and just the beginning of starting over after surgery. Should be progressing pretty fast barring any more bars to the leg!"

 I still can’t even wheelie..

Well duh... it's 'cause you aren't trying to backflip wheelie.
  • 8 2
Dude pull the bars and lean back. You’ll either wheelie or fall over backwards or both... just be sure to have your mate catch it on video so we see you in Friday fails!

You either have the wheelie gene or you don’t. Me personally I don’t have it and not for a lack of trying

@Krzymndyd: I was blessed with it.... can go for miles. Actually not sure on that these days. With a little practice I think I could. Used to be able to 1 hand them to wave or flip people off.

 1) put your finger on the brake lever
2) lean back, pull the bar and start pedaling (at the same time)
3) profit
backfliping 150ft even easier
1) carry speed, lean back, pull the bar, look to the sky

I can wheelie a motorcycle for miles (literally). I can ride trails and take turns in a wheelie, standing on the seat wheelies, feet over the bars wheelies.... I can't wheelie a bicycle for shit. I totally understand the balance point and all but I always fall off to the sides no matter what I try changing.

@johnbalz: I rode a wheelie for about 60’ on a dirt bike once...looped out. Ripped the fender off and wasn’t allowed to ever touch my buddies bike again....

@scotttherider: Ha!!! Sounds like the time I let my brother in law ride one of my dirt bikes Smile

@johnbalz: I’m not to be trusted in or on anything with wheels and a motor. That’s why I stick with the pedal bikes....

That was a Mormon cricket. Harmless. That "stinger" is to allow the females to lay eggs.

Ignorance is a bitch for mother nature.

At least the lizard had a good feed - circle of life.

@tremeer023: at least against the lizard the bug have a fighting chance, not against a douche bag with a stick.

Hey man, I'm just trying to look out for my own well being haha. Those things are new to my property and were freaking me out, but now I know they are harmless. Thanks for the info and rest assured they will go untouched in the future. Thanks for watching!

You people are giant pussies. The Mormon Cricket is a massive nuisance and are known to swarm towns and destroy crops. One less cricket in the world and you're ready to demonize one of the most legendary MTBers. Grow up.

I guess I’m just old or something but I feel like social media has all but killed the feature length film (can’t wait for Return to Earth!). Really wish dudes this talented could focus the energy and cash on a sequel to Where the Trail Ends or something along those lines. Maybe they are doing that behind the scenes and that would be rad. I just feel like MTB media is bite sized adrenaline shots instead of true adventures these days. Props to Cam, the dude is crazy talented and just won’t quit, I just miss waiting for the latest NWD or Collective DVD to drop at the LBS... good times.

@ybsurf: No, but the first time you see one in person the reaction is pretty much "Take off and nuke it from orbit"

@Woody25: kill them all with fire! Mass Mormon cricket genocide is needed!!!!

@ybsurf: I don't kill things either but at least the lizard was getting fed.

Ripping around in those side by sides without a helmet on is probably more dangerous than the backflip

Thanks for the great video! I love a glimpse behind the scenes. It really shows how much hard work pro riders put in, on and off the bike. Smile

Good luck Cam. PS. You need to clean up some of the trash, it makes your playground look like a Spun Valley front yard.
