Nowadays young dirt jumpers focus on tricks such as double or even triple barspins, tailwhips and maybe one or two bangers: 360 whips or flip whips. Tricks that would win every contest back in the day are now pulled off in typical qualification runs. You could say the ‘dirt scene’ as we know it can start to get boring and there are very few riders that really stand out. I love it when people pull signature tricks and put their own style into every move. Creativity and style are the two main things in riding bikes for me. I love FMX inspired tricks, but they are still not as popular in dirt jumping.

I don’t like winter as the day starts at 7:00 AM and the light goes out by 3:30 PM so I need to wake up early. I hate wasting daylight sleeping. That’s why I get myself together every single day by the crack of dawn and ride my pitbike to the training spot. It is not far away from my home and the size of the bike makes it usable on the same jumps as my Dartmoor jump bike. It is the first winter ever I have not lost riding time during the cold days.

Polish winters are typically harsh and we get some serious in snow at this time of a year. But this season has been kind enough for us and we have temperatures above freezing in the day time. Our regular spots are not working due to the problems with wet conditions, but we have put some shovel work into ‘The Pit’ step-up section and it works perfectly. This area is sand so we don’t have any problems with frozen earth on jumps. It's the perfect winter spot. We added a new boner log to the step-up section so the chances for some new tricks have doubled!

 Amazing video, article and photos!!

Usually I'm that much into dirt edits because they are all the same: most pro riders seem to have the same style and do the same tricks. Also I'm getting bored with many of these so called 'world's firsts'.
Don't get me wrong, the cash flip or cliffhanger for example, are what I call a world's first.
But so often I see a trick and someone put an extra barspin in it and calls it a world's first, while in my opinion it's not a world's firs;, you just added another barspin.
World's first 360 double bar, a month later worlds first 360 triple bar, a bit later a worlds first 360 quad bar. It's really sick and those are tricks I can't even dream of being able to do myself, so I have huge respect for the riders. But I don't like seeing that that is the only way that most dirt/slopestyle riders think they can improve.

That's why I have huge respecet for Szymon Godziek.
He stepped out of the game where everyone copies eachother and created his own style. And it is so sick to watch!
After seeing/reading this he became my favorite dirt rider on mtb. He has so much style!

I really hope Szymon will be an inspiration for other riders to stop copying eachother and to get creative create their own style Smile

Respect!

I kind of see what you mean about the worlds first trick comment but that is where the majority of improvement is going to be made, by sticking in an extra barspin or tailwhip etc, because at the end of the day there is only so many axis's to spin on and tricks to do with the bike so it's going to come down to riding style and crazy combos. That being said my favourite dirt edits are when someone is just flowing through some nice, big, steep trails getting sideways and just being stylish!

Yeah thats what the mentality was in the late 90's about skateboarding. Have you watch recent edits? i can't even figure out where they hit the board... Hopefully bike mtb will get into this direction, like bmx is doing right now

If it hasn't been done before in one air, it's a world's first. It's not that complicated. If you don't like it. Tough shit. Get over it. I can tell you what ISN'T a world's first. Doing a circus trick that's been around since the 80's off of an ad campaign with an Oakley logo on it, is definitely not a world's first!

And just as I thought ''I wonder if there's a single frame better looking than the gold O1 Void, Dartmoor go and make an Oil Slick frame! Looks sick as fuck. Godziek's riding is insane. Really loved the chilled atmosphere to this video. Not too comp, just some nice sessions down by the jumps....

Really great photography. Some of the best I have seen. Love the attitude, not wanting to miss a minute of daylight practice. Real dedication. That's how you get to the top Szymon. Keep it up and well have soon have the world's first Polish FMB champ!

in my opinion , Mr godziek is the only guy who's able to take the crown of semenuk. I'm hoping he will be winning lot's of competitions next year .
  • 1 0
I agree, but don't forget Martin Soderstorm, he's also solid rider and has a nice style. 2015 may be the fight for crown between those to: Godziek and Soderstrom.
  • 1 1
now that would be a great show to watch . Dual of 2014 : Sonderström vs Godziek . Nice

front flips are minge. Stop pulling them, the idea is to look smooth, a table top would score you more points if i were judging - because you don’t look gash.
Not doubting they must be hard as fook, but they really aren’t worth the effort...

 Soooooo many POD's in there...
  • 1 1
That was crazy ! , it would be nice to add those tricks next time into a pack of jumps just flowin and steezin in a pack and throwing down bangers , not just a stepup... , thats just my thought.
  • 1 0
Awesome video! Super relaxed and simple instead of the same 'ol slo-mo dirt roosting shots and whips. The front flip with the bar twist was sick!
  • 3 2
Always has been and always will be my favorite MOD rider! absolutely killer video with just a insane bag of tricks!

This is awesome, but that back wheel to seat tube clearance doesn't look like it will fit a ball hair through it!
  • 1 0
There is a gyro in his head. So much style.
  • 1 1
That cliffhanger was so FMX that for a second i was expecting him to stage dive (no handed lander for those who dont know)
  • 1 0
Awesome and he is handsome hah
  • 1 0
Very last photo - he's hiding from the lights of Mordor Smile

Zinkbike, listen up!!!! You wanna vote on best trick of the year? GODziek just gave you an eyeful of options that shit all over Cam Zink's lame assed back flip that he couldn't even do in 50' of air without a special little booter custom made just for him. Pfffft.

I wonder what he's gonna try to do a flip over next to get all your pussies wet!!!!! Hahahahaha!
  • 3 1
This ^ after everything Zink has done for the sport? King Clutch is who he is. He flipped a jump only two others have attempted, during "competition". I really like Godziek's creativity and style too, but your acting like he cashroll barspin'd the Big Gurl or Canyon Gap.
  • 2 1
I hear you, but what I'm really acting like is someone that realizes GODziek doesn't need to do what he does over that stuff. GODziek is progress. Zink is stagnation. Zink lacks creativity, style, he's still riding in 2003. All he can do is try to flip or maybe 3 the biggest thing on course. Hype it all up, act all douche about it & just about everything else, then repeat next year. The man made Oakley advert wasn't even enough, he still needed a special booter just for him. With all that air, it still was enough. Levi Lavallee double flips a f*cking 450 pound sled, & Zink needed a special booter for a 40-50 foot flip. Special booter for a "special" rider right Zinkbike?!!!!!

Maybe no one else attempted it because they weren't Oakley riders. Or maybe because they have some integrity. Maybe the good riders (keep in mind Strait is excluded from the argument because he is in fact, a f*cking baws) thought they'd be original, creative, less than scream in your f*cking face obvious about what they were going to do. Like Fairclough was, like Lacondeguy was, like Semenuk, like Ty, like Claw. McGarry seems like a rad dude, but I coulda told you ahead of time & bet my life on the fact that he was gonna flip his way down the whole course. How did I know? You know how I knew. Just like I knew ahead of time that Zink was gonna try to flip or 3 one of the biggest things on course. He didn't even try to do it off of a different big thing from last year. It's OK to be honest. You don't have to be politically correct everywhere you go. It's just time for some riders to stop using their glory days (I'm not really sure when Zink was ever really anything more than Kyle's best buddy though) to keep on keepin' on & let the guys like GODziek step into the light where they belong, so this sport can keep on keepin' on. C'mon man. Just C'MON! I've seen flips nearly that big on BMX, without contest money on the line. So there!

You are a awesome dude, I see where you are coming from. And it's some awesome sh*t. I don't belong in any argument that Cam Zink would be in. Sorry dude. You are talking about some seriously awesome sh*t, that is way above my head. I would like to talk, but the zipper is right over the lips for this one.

 www.pinkbike.com/news/Video-A-Week-of-Rampage-with-Kyle-Norbraten-2014.html
Just in case you missed it. Norbs makes comments how he thinks the only person that could hit the Big Gurl is Kyle. Zink flipping that is big mountain progress. And it was creative, I've never seen anything like it or the 3 he did in 2010. Zink is 2010 FMB world tour champ and a Rampage champ, how can he be Kyle's donkey tail? Good thing Godziek is gonna be a regular on the FMB world tour. Now he will get a chance to prove himself against his peers. He will do the big tricks on the air's he can handle. But the judges are going to be looking at what he does on the big hits. And then I guess we all have our own opinions about how the events should be judged. I would prefer they judge according to who took the most risk. Someone like you might prefer more technical smaller tricks and lots of them. So we are on opposite sides of the spectrum. And the judging as it is today is probably somewhere in the middle.
