Interview: Rampage Organizer Todd Barber Talks Proving Grounds, Explains How Athletes are Chosen for Rampage
@mm2020: Just a few counter points: Veronique Sandler had the right idea when she said that it was time to prove that women can ride with guys. That should be the message they focus on, because that is what will make their pay rise to the level of men (or build massive social media followings, that would work too). Once they draw the same amount of views as the men they will be paid the same amount. The progression won't happen over night, but it can be done. Again, Vicki Golden has shown its possible. Watch the replay of X Games best whip from a few weeks ago, she can really throw a bike around. Social stances are cool for privately owned companies, but publicly traded ones have a responsibility to their shareholders to generate the largest profit they can. If that means having nothing to do with women then so be it, fiduciary responsibility comes first. Obviously completely ignoring half the population is an extreme example, but I'm sure there are cases where it is the right thing to do. Mountain biking might be popular with women where you live, but here in southern California from what I've seen they probably aren't even 10% of the riders. It would be interesting to see what the population looks like for the entire world or all of North America. One thing with mountain biking compared to baseball, hockey, etc, is we don't know how much the teams/bike companies are paying the riders. For all we know, Casey Brown could be getting more money from Trek than the men on the factory dh team, or the more up and coming freeriders like Reed Boggs. Maybe 90% of females that go to bike parks want to ride a Session because of her. So even if the numbers we see publicly are less than men, the women have the opportunity to even it out on the backend.

Interview: Rampage Organizer Todd Barber Talks Proving Grounds, Explains How Athletes are Chosen for Rampage
@mm2020: I think Vicki Golden is a good example of what could happen. A few years ago she was in X Games best whip just because she was a girl, but watching this year she threw down. Casey, Sandler, and a bunch of other girls might be able to get to the level they need to be on for Rampage in a few years, but they aren't there yet from what I've seen. The thing I don't understand is why everyone is saying women need to be paid the same. Why does the women's whip off winner get paid the same as the guy's? There was like 5 of them compared to 100 guys and they aren't even close to the same level. If they want to earn what the guys earn they either need to compete against them or generate the same amount of sales, which they currently don't.

Interview: Martin Maes - "I'm Not Guilty... I Just Made a Stupid Mistake"
I don't know why PEDs are outlawed in any type of bicycle sport to begin with. The guys aren't out there punching each other, let them have the extra strength and endurance and let's see how fast human beings can go. Drug testing in sports like mountain biking does no good. Look at what happened to Broc Tickle, took like 2 years for WADA to even tell him what his punishment was. For hockey, boxing, etc I get why you need to test guys because they are out there hitting each other, but for mountain biking fuck drug tests. Let the guys take EPO, testosterone, and whatever else they want.

Giant Declares 'Made in China' Era Over Citing Trump Tariffs
@scott-townes: Don't worry I know all about that. What I can see happening is a big car loan ABS drop will cause a sell off and the corporate debt will keep things down over a long period of time. And it will start right around August or September of 2020. Trump will obviously do what he can to stop it unless he doesn't want to get re-elected, but it will be tough to fight all of that. The corporate debt bubble won't be the starting point, but it will turn a small recession into a big one that lasts for a while. And when things do turn around it will make growth slower than it normally would be. This is all my opinion, I'm not a financial advisor and I very well could be wrong, but this is my guess on what will happen.

Giant Declares 'Made in China' Era Over Citing Trump Tariffs
@scott-townes: Its not as ridiculous as you think. If a million people defaulted on their car loans asset backed securities might plummet, which could drag the whole stock market down. That's pretty much how the last recession happened. Computers do most of the trading now and just run on algorithms. If the right chain of events happens it could trigger a massive sell off. And if things are timed right, it could influence politics. Coincidentally, the 08 crash happened right before Obama's first election. We could see the same thing next year if certain people or companies want Trump out.

Giant Declares 'Made in China' Era Over Citing Trump Tariffs
@irck: With nice bikes its more toward the 2 end of that spectrum , but its not elitist nonsense. Tons of people in America are under a mountain of debt because they don't follow those rules. I'm guessing in Australia you guys are generally smarter with your money, but Americans don't know what they're doing. There's 7 million people here that are at least 3 months behind on their car payment. The last recession was caused by dumbasses using shitty loans to buy houses that they couldn't afford. And yes 2k is barely anything in the US, it can easily be saved up over a few months if you work full time. A million dollars isn't even a lot of money in America if we take a broad view of things.

Giant Declares 'Made in China' Era Over Citing Trump Tariffs
@irck: Mountain biking is a luxury for most people, not a necessity. With luxury items, in general, if you can't afford to buy at least 2-4 of them you shouldn't be buying one. $2000 is a 40% increase, big difference percentage wise, but its barely anything in terms of the actual number of dollars. If paying 7k vs 5k is a big deal to you then you need to save more money before making the purchase.

Giant Declares 'Made in China' Era Over Citing Trump Tariffs
@HurricaneCycles: In my opinion, consumerism and poor financial education is the main problem with mountain bikers. I'm sure in other industries there are plenty of examples of it being something else, but with mountain biking everyone is always complaining about how expensive everything is yet they still go buy it. People will be buying bikes they can't afford no matter how expensive they are, the companies are just taking advantage of those people's stupidity and as you pointed out China helps them exploit that even more. You would laugh at how many guys I see out there with $5k-6k bikes that can barely make it through some brake bumps. People complain about the price of a $5k bike going up to $7k because of tariffs. If you can't afford to pay $7k you shouldn't be buying the $5k bike in the first place, it isn't financially smart. The communist chinese are awful people, biggest mass murderers ever, but the government there is all part of a plan for complete control by those rich people you mentioned. And those rich people are ultimately also the ones running the advertisements and creating the tv shows and movies that push consumerism.
