*Note that Cam Zink was pre-qualified so he will compete tomorrow in spite of his one run crash today.Qualifications went off today here in Winter Park Colorado for the 2011 Crankworx Colorado slopestyle contest. Riders from around the world flocked to Winter Park like a strange breed of wilder beast. Countries from all over the world were represented including Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, USA and more. With the top pros in the world in attendance, the contest was guaranteed to be amazing, and that's just what it was.
Today's contest was a two run qualification for tomorrow's main event. The top ten riders from last year's contest were pre-qualified, as well as the top ten overall in the Freeride World Tour. Even though a handful of riders were pre-qualified, everyone took runs today. Riders like Brandon Semenuk came out strong showing a smooth clean run, while other riders like Ben Glassen came out of nowhere with one of the best runs seen on the day.
This was my best day yet in a competition. I am stoked to be going to finals tomorrow! - Ben Glassen
The top run of the day came from none other then Cameron McCaul. His season was cut short last year after crashing hard on a front flip attempt here at Crankworx CO.
I was stoked to come back and land the front flip clean today! - Cam McCaul
Cam's run was so much more then just his clean front flip. He dug into his deep bag of tricks and laid them out on the table for the rest of competitors to see.
Another note worthy rider today was UK's very own Sam Pilgrim. His super clean, extremely dialed runs showed his has what it takes to win here in Winter Park. Young sensation Anthony Messere put down a solid run that put him in a solid 9th place going into tomorrow's finals. Legend Cam Zink went down pretty hard today, but is pre-qualified and will be competing tomorrow. Andrew Taylor of Santa Cruz California also had a hard crash, leaving him a little beat up.
I'll see how I feel in the morning, but I want to still compete tomorrow. - Andrew Taylor
The contest today was an awesome display of riding from the seasoned pros all the way down to the new up and coming riders. Colorado local Austin "Ice Cold AC" Chipman laid out the longest tuck no of the day on the 'Hooter Booter' and his attempts for a tailwhip on the final step up showed he is putting in work and progressing.
Today's contest was only a warm up for tomorrow, so be sure to tune into Pinkbike to
watch the finals live 1PM MDT, 12:00 PDTCameron McCaul with his signature front flip. This trick left him broken last year, but sent him into the top spot for finals this year.
Martin Soderstrom held the top spot for a long while today with his solid and trick filled run.
Brandon Semenuk always looks completely calm and collected in contests. Today was no different.
Could this be the slopestyle contest for Sam Pilgrim to pull out a win? I will venture to say it very well may be. This clean flip up onto the wooden deck shows it as well.
Double or nothing Greg Watts bringing his stacked cards of tricks. What will tomorrow bring for Watts?

Ian, I did see footage of that flip tuck. I'm not doubting his ability to do well in slopestyle in the future, my opinions of him are simply based on past history. He hasn't excelled at slopestyle as yet. Now that cworx Colorado is over, we can see that yes he has what it takes. I know I'm sounding pretty negative towards the bloke but don't worry, I do appreciate what he's going for mountain biking and think he's a super talented rider.
I think his final run was better than Semenuks but hes not semenuk so he got marked down
