DreamRide II - Photo and Video Epic

by Diamondback Bikes

Hello dear friends, and welcome back
To a place where colors emerge from black
Another chapter from our little DreamRide
So take a minute to enjoy. Set your work aside

We've traveled quite far, across ocean and land
To make something unique, something wild and grand
Steaming volcanoes and hot lava flows
Places with magic, where time simply slows

Sit back and relax. Let your dreams run free
Create anything that your mind wants to see!
But until you're able to cut loose and explore
We invite you to join us on our journey, once more.

Welcome to DreamRide II

What does it mean Image by Bruno Long

What makes dreams so incredibly special? Is it the fact that they're simply figments of our imagination? Untouchable? Too colorful for reality? DreamRide 2 aims to bring dreams to life. Ride along with us as we journey across massive lava fields, cruise alongside evergreen canyons, chase rainbows, ride on frozen rivers and explore volcanic caves. These are the places only seen in dreams. Welcome to back to DreamRide.

DreamRide2 is brought to you by Diamondback Bikes and the 2017 Diamondback Release.
All imagery was shot by Bruno Long.

Directed by Mike Hopkins
Produced by Mike Hopkins/Juicy Studios

Quite simply a beautiful piece of art.
  • + 31
What an amazing bit of cinematography!! I have to believe that it would effect non bikers in the same fashion as it took my breath away there.
  • + 18
@willyheff: Essentially its like a mini series of Life Cycles which did go over well even for those who rarely biked. That was so enjoyable.
  • + 14
and people still with ""semenuk edit of the yeaaar"" just no. this wins
  • + 6
jeez. like poetry. that's probably a first in a mountain bike edit. poetry.

OMG too much photos that could be in the finals of Photo of the Year contest!!! Very nice job!
  • + 2
like Gopro line of the year. if that's allowed in PB poty contest.. at least 2-3 of em will go to Finals.. 2 year ago they already got to finals with the cave riding photos in Red Cave Zion National Park if i'm not mistaken. Smile
i'll vote for em for sure.

 You win, Hopkins.
  • + 18
I need to have a dream like that! Nice work gang!!
  • + 14
Reminds me of Life Cycles a lot, which is one of the highest compliments I can think of for a bike movie.. I mean, a movie about a bike Wink
  • + 12
AMAZEBALLS!!!!!!!! WOW! And I even live here, yet it still amazes me on how you folks captured the beauty of my home island. MAHALO!!!!!!!
  • + 12
There is a lot of great content posted on Pinkbike, but this is the best I have ever seen. I've never seen cinematography like this in a bike video.
  • + 3
 I totally agree...just what I was thinking!
  • + 12
wowww this is the best biking vid I've ever seen all those scenic shots are absolutely unreal
  • + 7
I haven't grinned like this since I saw Life Cycles for the first time!
  • + 12
That was SO TERRIBLE.. I only watched it 10 times in a row... *slow clap* Bravo
  • + 5
...and Bruno, ya get a bit better behind the lens buds! Seriously
  • + 7
Honestly, at very first I thought "cheeeeesey", then slowly I found myself sitting up higher and staring at the screen harder. By the end I had to stop myself from quitting my desk job and buying a bunch of plane tickets. great job.
  • + 6
If I were to spend a while in the desert meditating on what my ideal self would look like as a rider, image creator, and human being, I think I'd just come out with this as the result. At least it would make explaining my epiphany easy to people; I could just send them this link.
  • + 9
Simply beautiful, thank's Mother Nature, and Hopkins btw!
  • + 8
Well that certainly was a cut above the usual pap
  • + 5
Holy shit, that really was awesome. Not like run of the mill awesome. But, if you line up all the other things you say were awesome, then pick the most awesome. This would be it. That snow riding was off the hook.
  • + 4
Had the pleasure of having a beer with Mike and Kelly when the slope style got rained out in whistler 2 years ago, two of the nicest guys in mountain biking I've ever met. Awesome to see Mike in this!
  • + 5
I would buy one, JUST because Mike rides one, and Porter rides one. This video is ANOTHER LEVEL. And they dedicated it to Kelly McGarry!! Much Props guys.
  • + 6
DEATH STAR SNOW RIP SHOTS ARE PSYCHO. THE F YOU EVEN DOING DUDE?

NEEDS MORE VW THO.
  • + 6
Amazing video. Amazing pics. Amazing edit. I want to go ride my bike right now!
  • + 3
Totally totally stoked by the riding & the beauty of the scenery. This film should be a wake-up call for all of those who still don't understand why it's so important to preserve nature, biodiversity, ecosystems and out Planet in general.
  • + 7
So. Damn. Good. Hopkins & crew deliver again! I love it.
  • + 3
Think me and my wife need a little vacation to Hawaii. O wait did I say my wife....I meant my bike. JK...she rips too...we went to Kauai in 2016 and hiked all around the island. The entire time we kept saying how much we wished we had our bikes. The locals who get to ride these trails that nobody seems to know exist are some lucky peddlers!!
  • + 6
I can't tell you how many times I have replayed the first video. Hopkins you are a huge inspiration. Keep at it!
  • + 6
Beautiful piece of work. I'm ready for a trip to Hawaii now
  • + 4
Huge fan of this concept, even the second time 'round. Awesome job, especially surrounding the planning—can't be easy to make something like this happen.
  • + 3
I swear I literally felt like I was Dreaming. Talk about virtual reality! My head is still spinning. No joke. Best dream sequence I've ever seen.
  • + 3
Stunning video, photos, narration, everything. Thanks to everyone involved in creating and perfecting this masterpiece, as well as the original Dreamride.
  • + 3
Absolutely amazing on all levels. Cinematography, writing/story telling, riding, locations, music, editing, still photography. Just incredible work to all involved.
  • + 4
Wildest eyegasm ever! Choice venues with wicked riding mixed with artsy stuff - brilliant!

Dreamride III ?
  • + 2
What a vid! The boys and I do an adventure trip every year and that seemed to capture the sense of adventure and thrill perfectly.

Fitting tribute for the big fella too #McGazzaForever
  • + 2

  • + 2
Just got my new edgeless 27" monitor for my office. Couldn't have asked for a better way to see how the monitor performs then slowly scrolling through this article. SO MANY PRETTY COLOURS!!!
  • + 10
 should have gotten a 29er"...
  • + 2
@Kyleponga: fun fact on the bottom right corner it says "27er" I had a good laugh when I saw it haha.
  • + 4
What a Killer film, shows what Mountain Biking is all about, enjoying nature!
  • + 5
Best 5 minutes I've had off the bike since I don't know, forever?
  • + 4
...And here I am clicking my life away on my work computer.
  • + 3
As a photographer I must say these are just one fucking good pictures, in the video and the stills!
  • + 2
Hawaii, BC, Alberta.....I am missing out.....wow....Hawaiians must hate Capt. Cook or whoever it was that discovered paradise....wow.....
  • + 2
 Not "hate", but "ate".

Captain Cook got a really pretty bay named after him, to make up for being a human sacrifice.
  • + 4
The nap at my desk today was nowhere near as epic....
  • + 4
 simply outstanding.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thankyou!
  • + 1
Pretty sure the lava flow shots are Big Island (Hawai'i), not O'ahu...unless something started flowing into the ocean around Nanakuli... that crusty old lava eats tires (and knees) like nothing else! Sweet photo set.
  • + 4
Notice that the island name was corrected, thanks. Its not quite as bad as calling an Aussie a Kiwi, but almost. Mahalo.
  • + 6
@twozerosix: That was our error. Too little sleep!
  • + 2
@diamondbackbikes: Super sweet video, makes me homesick, you found some great little nuggets.
  • + 3
Absolutely incredible! That has to be the best advert for the sport I have ever seen.
  • + 3
Lost count how many times that gave me the shivers. The best seal of approval there is. Amazing work to all involved.
  • + 3
They need a "making of" video on this! I have so many questions!! Absolutely awesome vid guys!
  • + 2
Mike will be hosting a live Q&A Friday morning from 9-11. Ask him anything!
  • + 2
One of the best videos of last time i saw!!! Great job guys.

Can I know the locations?

Simply amazing piece of cinematography...hands down.
  • + 5
 Edit of the year!!!
  • + 4
Sickest video I have ever seen.
  • + 3
Where's all this singletrack on the big island? Especially the one above the huge cliffs!
  • + 1
I was wondering same thing...pretty sure its a hiking trail way above Waipio or Waimanu, and from everything I've heard its super treacherous. I bet the rideable section is not much longer than shown in this video.

Downhill Mauna Kea though? Let 'er rip!
  • + 4
Mike Hopkins is the Vangogh of mtb culture
  • + 1
Simply amazing...great job all involved. Hopkins video edits are stuff of legends...the more the better. Such an ability to tell a story whilst the eyes absorb the visual pleasure of his journeys!!
  • + 2

  • + 2
Amazing video! Best I've seen in a long time! Nice to see DB stepping up it's game.
  • + 3
 Spectacular! Don't stop making these!
  • + 3
This was amazing! Reminds me of Life Cycles. Please tell us there's more!
  • + 3
DAMN! Was this filmed in Jurrasic Park? Absolutely stunning scenery!
  • + 5
If Hopkins could have set this in Jurassic Park, I assure you he would have done just that. This was as close as he could get.
  • + 3
@diamondbackbikes: Actually it was pretty close. The huge valley scene, Jurassic Park was partially filmed in it. I live here and was also a location scout for Mike and the team while they were here. Amazing experience and even more amazing outcome. Congrats Diamondback Bikes!
  • + 3
There's a feature length movie in there. Please make it.
  • + 2
