Five Things We (Sometimes) Miss About Older Bikes
Never had a problem on 10+ different brands when using the correct tools. Kfccoleslaw posted a $13 kit on amazon that will pay for itself after the first use. It's just like working on cars - the correct tools make the job 100% easier.

Five Things We (Sometimes) Miss About Older Bikes
All these people spending hours to change cables and housing - are you just shoving the thing through the frame and praying? I hate internal routing too but it's really not that difficult. $10 magnet, dollar store dental picks, and some electrical tape. Problem solved. Or get the nice Park tool set for more $$$ but still worth it if the alternative is hours of frustration.

Field Test: 2023 Scott Genius ST - Cape Not Included
Honestly it's a really good looking bike and the weight is impressive. Is it the reported weight with double downs? But the stem/spacers ruins it - so ugly. If they're going to force internal routing at least make it look good.

First Look: Vitus' All-New 2023 Mythique Trail Bike
@ceecee It's implied that crank length and cockpit setup stay constant when comparing different bikes. My point is only that reach is a subjective way to measure the distance between your hands and feet, and is measured the same way from brand to brand.

@mahargetan: I'm stoked that taller riders have more options now. It makes sense to have bikes with 515mm+ reaches for the people that need it. And I think that kind of answers my question - Vitus is killing it on the value of these bikes and part of that is probably due to offering a limited number of sizes. They keep costs down by only producing 4 sizes, but still have something for the smallest riders and the biggest riders.

First Look: Vitus' All-New 2023 Mythique Trail Bike
@tprojosh: I know STA and top tube length have an impact on the "perceived" reach while seated, but when you're standing on the bike isn't reach the same across the board? It's just the horizontal distance between the bottom bracket and top of the head tube, i.e. the distance between your hands and feet?

I don't understand these long reach numbers on trail bikes. It seems like modern bikes have deleted large altogether and now if you're between 5'9" and 6'0" your options are "standard medium" or "super-enduro-mega-large". At 5'11, the sweet spot for me is 470-475mm. Now everyone wants to follow the trend of larges with 490-500mm reach and they leave a massive gap between medium and large. I think this kind of sizing leaves a huge gap for a very large demographic or riders.

Ibis Ripmo & Ripley Receive UDH Update & New Colors
Was hoping for suspension kinematics updates and a steeper seat tube angle. DW Link needs a lot more progression. I had to run max volume spacers before getting the Cascade Link and I'm not heavy at 175lbs on a size Large. It pedals like a dream but I'll probably be going back to Horst Link for my next bike. Also the new logo sucks. Why get rid of the gold badge? Oh right to save 8 grams.

Opinion: The Pace of Change in the MTB World is Slowing Down, and I'm All For It
Derailleurs need to be a thing of the past. If big budget companies put half as much funding into researching new alternatives we would have completely new drivetrain technology by now. What's the point of spending hundreds on a derailleur if it won't last more than 1 season due to being in literally the worst spot it on a bike. Unsprung mass to consider too. We need a reliable protected and isolated drivetrain alternative.
