Dunbar Cycles launches Suspension Center!

Since 2008 Dunbar Cycles has been expanding its involvement in the Canadian race scene, and it's now time to take all our race and suspension knowledge to the next step. 2011 marks the opening of the Dunbar Cycles' Suspension Center, and we are launching it with a one time offer, free service on all suspension work for the month of November!

Suspension Center

Fox suspension getting prepped for an overhaul.

With the greatest racer presence of any shop on the BC Cup circuit, Dunbar Cycles has been putting in some serious R&D time into the inner workings of suspension. Following a very successful season, in which the team has claimed both the Regional and National Downhill titles, we are proud to announce the opening of the in-house Dunbar Suspension Center!

What does this mean for you as a rider? This in-house suspension center means mountain bikers from all over the greater Vancouver area, and within the lower mainland will have the ability to not only get their suspension serviced at a convenient location, but will have the ability to request tuning advice, and even custom tuning for serious racers, all at an affordable price. At this stage our capabilities lay predominantly with Fox and RockShox products, but can provide basic services on other brands subject to the availability of parts.

What about pricing? We understand that coming into December, as well as the down season for many mountain bikers money is not as free flowing as it typically is mid summer. So, for the month of November, we are going to be offering any suspension service on Fox or RockShox suspension, whether it be a simple overhaul or full custom tuning, all labour will be on the house! This means the only charges you will see on your invoice will be for oil and parts.

So instead of letting your high end suspension sit around all winter to wallow in a full season's worth of grit and grime bring it into Dunbar Cycles and receive a once in a lifetime ridiculous deal! This offer will only be available for the month of November, so now's the time to take advantage of it! Servicing times will be subject to availability of parts and turn around time will vary on workload, but you can expect about 72 hours down time. One minor request we would like to make is - please bring your bike in clean.

Wet and wild

Wet days make for mucky suspension!

After hard day in the bike park, and on local trails, getting your suspension serviced is a great idea, not only for longevity, but for performance sake too!

This is a great deal, I'm glad they are stepping up to the plate and doing this. Its good to have work done by specialists rather than a regular bike mechanic who may never have worked on your fork before. Free labor is an incredible deal! My 40 is running ok, but I'm tempted to bring it in just for the deal.

Well its good to know that someone is going to be handling Rockshox products now with the latest news of Suspension werx no longer dealing with R\S.
opens up new possibilities is Len wrenching ?

As it's for November, I would have made it every Male with a mustache gets a free service . . . . and for the ladies, anything that resembles a mustache either drawn, painted or glued on to the upper lip gets a free service. But considering you don't even have to do that! Wowzers in my trousers what a deal !

Why did SuspensionWerx Drop RockShock ?
  • 5 4
I dare say they are too unreliable and from personal experience, Fox and Marz are generally a LOT higher build quality

I'm not talking performance or anything here I'm talking how well they are constructed/quality of parts/materials used etc.

As for Dunbar picking them up, well that's their choice and I wish no ill to become of it as they are a top notch shop regardless.

Tis a shame I can completely overhaul my poor old boxxers, top and bottom, on the bike in about an hour otherwise I'd bring them down town next weekend with me. Hoping for new 888's for next season anyway... in which case you won't need to service them for me until 2043 Razz

Never was a RockShock fan anways. SuspensionWerx Tuned my Rc4 and will tune every suspension products i will own from now on. Good luck to Dunbar that will get the RS nobody wants to touch Wink
  • 2 1
Yeah I didn't realise how bad RS build quality was until I had a friend's Boxxers stripped down. The hole for the foot nut at the bottom of the lowers wasn't even in the middle and if you roll a stanchion tube on a flat surface you can see they're not straight. Terrible!
  • 1 1
If they were terrible quality and constantly needed rebuilding then suspensionwerx would have got way more business from them... They don't want you to own crappy products, but a constant supply of broken boxxers (which by the way, are not nearly as poorly built as you say they are) would definitely be profitable. I have no idea why they stopped servicing RS, but I can tell you 100% it wasn't because they were too unreliable.

Regardless of why they dropped RS, the boxxer WC does lack the build quality that higher end products from Fox, Manitou and Marzocchi have.

Internally, everything in these other three top shelf forks are anodized and really don't have any 'breakable' parts.

The Boxxer WC does not have the same quality inside where it matters and that's why you can buy the Elka Stage 5 Boxxer upgrade. But to even fork out another $800 on top of your brand new boxxer . . . you might as well have purchased the 40Fit with the kashima coat.

I have had my boxxer wc's for three seasons now and they perform fine. HOWEVER;
- I still don't think they have completely resolved the seal issue
- there is still minimal stiction and the staunchins are paper thin
- anodized internals

Other than those little issues, the fork is a great light WC standard fork, it's just the little things that let it down where as the other three companies have improved past these and then some.

when you ride the shore almost everybody is on rockshox and the rest are on fox..... nobody seems to use marz
  • 3 0
That's not true. they aren't as popular as Fox or rockshox, but they're still present. I'm curious as to why they wouldn't to be honest.
  • 1 0
same I love my 888 but the only other guy I've seen on marz was on a 66, they're nice forks just not well known for some reason, and the boxxer owners hate on them constantly even though they have never tried anything else, if you want proof of this ask somebody about a 888 and see how many people shout marz sucks before your done your sentence
  • 1 1
Prob because you never have to service them and Dunbar would run out of oil if they serviced marzocchi. lol.
  • 2 0
I love how people complain about having to service their forks but deep down they must enjoy it because people still buy boxxers and 40's

do you guys do normal overhauls on 888's? (free or not)
  • 2 0
Hey if they don't drop it off at Marz Canada in North Van (on Rupert St). The new Marz are amazing. I bought an '11 RC3ti in January, went in this July for an oil change (with probably 200 hours on it), and they told me to come back later in the fall, no worries. Got it done late Sept regardless, and asked if there were any issues on the oil change...no..nothing, oil was fine too. One a year fork I guess lol!
  • 1 0
And how many weeks did it take?
  • 1 0
yeah i have the new 888 that comes stock on my commencal supreme dh v3.... awesome fork for the rocks, still like fox 40's for bike park use though only because they pedal better
  • 1 0
Stainer: 2 days. Might not be so lucky if you drop it off mid summer around Crankworx. It's a once a year fork, not every 2 months if you ride a lot....saves big$$.
  • 2 0
At this time we do not do Zocchi. Marzocchi Canada on the north shore are fully set up for all your zocchi needs

I got 6 full suspension bikes i spent 700 this season on rebuilds . That is 12 front and rear parts plus 3 back ups . So it gets super expensive doing the maintenance ,every 20 hours and such. Do you think they will have appointment schedules or first come first serve I will be there tues morning right after Halloween.
  • 3 0
You should probably learn how to rebuild forks yourself. 700 dollars is a lot of beer!
  • 1 0
 cani ship it to you?
  • 1 0
