Spank Industries - Tweet Video

May 18, 2012 at 2:12
by Mike Dutton
Spank Industries has been producing uniquely designed upgrade components for every discipline of MTB for over a decade. Although Spank has earned notoriety in recent years for the production of highly weight optimized rims and handlebars in their in-house facilities, as well as an interesting collection of stems and accessories, Spank also produces some amazing hardtail frames.

Last year Spank went to work on their Tweet and Spoon One2One DJ frames, updating just about every inch of them with feedback from their international pro team. From opening forge tooling to create an ultralite, knurled dropout, to a completely new double butted tube set with improved clearance for spin tricks and tighter rear triangle, the new Tweet and One2One have been given a major face lift. To kick off the new season, Spank paired up with French Video Producer Damien Vergez, from Fastfokus Productions, to create a fresh new look at the 2012 Tweet frame and component line.

Its not the first time Spank and Fastfokus have teamed up. In 2011 Fastfokus produced an incredible 6 part series of videos with Scott, Spank, Marzocchi, and various other sponsors, in which Vergez and his group of talented amateur riders traveled around the world to ride legendary MTB destinations with today's top FR stars such as Kelly McGarry, Yanick Granieri, CG, Gully and more. Check the demo reel from that project here on Pinkbike

"Tweet" is Spank Industries' colorful line of dirt/slope/street frames and components, including rims, bars, stems, grips, saddles, sprockets, half-link chains, and even spacer kits...almost all of which come in 7 eye popping colors. Just about everything in the Tweet line is fresh...right down to the scented TuggJob Grips. To see more, visit the Spank Industries website...www.spank-ind.com

The goal was to preserve the lightness and overall feel (what our riders call whipability), of these
models while improving on toe clearance during spin tricks, and downtube clearance for some
forks with taller adjustment knobs, as well as to optimize responsiveness in pedal bursts and
power hops for today’s bigger and bigger slopestyle courses and DJ lines. To achieve this without
increasing overall wheelbase, we lengthened the top tube slightly, and reduced the total length of
the rear triangle. In the process, we tightened the whole rear triangle while maintaining clearance
for larger diameter tires by tuning our chain/seat stay bend tooling. To complete the new rear
triangle, SPANK invested in forge tooling to create the lightest and strongest rear dropout we
could. This new custom dropout is knurled to reduce annoying axle slip in the horizontal drops.
The seat tube too was shortened to compliment the new rear triangle, and allow riders to slam
that saddle. To keep the weight under 2.5kg, SPANK has implemented a new double butted tube
set, with a classic round profile. Finally, all new welding fixtures and angles had to be worked out
to allow for all the changes. Our riders were stoked to find that we were able to achieve all of this
without revising the comfortable 69 degree head tube angle and short wheel base they loved.

 So... whats new?
I still see some ugly drop outs, copy-geo from blk mrkt and same colorways as for three(?) years now.
And defining new stickers as "fresh look" for 2012 is wrong.
Great progress
