TQ's Harmonic Pin Ring Motor is Simpler Than it Seems - Eurobike 2022
Tangent was making a retrofitable ebike motor called the Ascent that was using the same reduction method (it's called cycloidal reduction). It was a lot bigger and heavier, but also 6000 watts. I'm glad to see a mainstem brand using the same tech in a miniature package

Pinkbike Poll: How Do You Feel About eMTBs Today?
It's just a different machine. Different pace, different experience, and their trail access shouldn't be tied to regular bikes. I'm fine with some trails allowing both, but this idea that they're just like normal bikes or that it's the same sport is absurd.

Taj Mihelich's How to Pump Illustrated: The Trail is Giving Away Free Speed
This. To simply: it's the transition, or curved area, where pumping is effective. If it's just a downslope, you can pump up and down all day with no effect on speed. This is well known to anyone who's also skateboarded. One of the illustrations in the article is inaccurate in this way.

U.S. Forest Service Sued Over Decision to Allow eMTBs in Tahoe National Forest
@chrisclifford: I think that power number for Lance is exaggerated. I believe it's more like 400 for an hour, but maybe he managed 500 at some point on a good day. Either way, the 250w ebike rule is not well defined or regulated. These motors are capable of much more than that before their temperatures gets hot enough to kick in the thermal protection. 400w continuous is pretty realistic, so it is like adding a 20lb Lance to whatever horsepower you're putting out. IMO all the arguments for why ebikes are just like regular bikes just lose all validity if we're talking about more than 100w. That's all that's needed to turn an average rider into a super rider. 250-400w is a lot of power for anyone, and it's a ton of power for light weight riders. All that being said, I personally find any motor to be antithetical to the nature of a bicycle.

U.S. Forest Service Sued Over Decision to Allow eMTBs in Tahoe National Forest
I agree that equestrians have always hate mtbs. That's a major part of why we decided not to align with dirtbikes back in the early days of mountain biking. That's also why we should separate ourselves from ebikes now. Equestrians (and everyone else) have a much stronger argument for getting "bikes" off trails when ebikes are being considered. We can either sink with the ebikes or distance ourselves from them.
