11 Custom Bikes from Eurobike 2022

 Yes, admirable levels of pedantry! I think most of us can enjoy the custom builds and graphics without fretting too much over the fact that not everything about these bikes is actually “custom.”

 I'd say you're describing a custom frame. You could pay a fashion consultant to assemble a custom wardrobe, and still end up with a closet full of off-the-rack suits.

 @CalamityJake: and they'd all be pret a porter. Calling it a "custom wardrobe" would also not quite be accurate. But if you're incapable of buying clothes you like, I guess you can hire someone to buy off the rack stuff for you.

 @BiNARYBiKE: I enjoy looking at show builds as well, but that's what these are-the equivalent of tuner cars at SEMA.

 "useless blingmobiles" LOL. I sort of agree but wouldn't mind owning one as a 3rd or 4th bike.

 @wyorider: Maybe custom just refers to the fact that they are not sold in these paint or component specifications as OEM. They were modified or Customized to suit the individual rider. the paint even is custom because it is not offered as standard. but also, its whatever.

One of several sufficiently vague definitions that can embody most anyone's vision of a custom bike. Thanks for letting us know where you are on the custom spectrum.

 @iammarkstewart: heart of the bike is the frame. If that isn’t made to order, it’s just off the shelf parts and an hour or so in a spray booth.

My 2019 Reign Advanced was non-stock except for the frame/fork/headset/stem. Frame cracked so now I have a Chameleon colored frame with non-stock parts. Probably one of the only frames in that color in NA, with a unique build.

Is it “custom”? No!! Carbon frame molds are several hundred thousand dollars per mold. My frame is a stock frame. I have the parts on it I want to perform how I want it to perform. And it’s pretty great, but once again, not custom.

Atherton bikes can do a real “custom” frame, and if you don’t fit a stock bike, it might be worth the scratch. I think in NA, Ventana will also still do a true custom f/s frame. If you need that to fit your body, totally worth the cash. But not many people do.

 @Snowytrail: I’d be scared to take it to the coffee shop because it’s so obviously fancy. I’d be scared to take it off road because some of the parts would break.

Maybe……a 10th or 15th bike? Like when I got past having bikes for specific purposes and had more bikes than I could remember??

 @wyorider: maybe you should go and have a look at @dangerholm's riding footage. these bikes are nowhere near to fragile.

 @wyorider: I guess sometimes words and meanings change with time and it is very common word usage to use '"custom" in this context. You can hold onto your definition, but eventually, something will have to change if everyone else has defined the word differently. I'm sure there are many words whose meaning has changed over time to better reflect how they are used. I guess I'm left wondering how I would define these bikes if I'm not using the word custom or customized?
