British Cycling Announces 2023 World Champs Team

British Cycling has announced the 48 riders who will be competing for the Rainbow Jersey in Scotland in a few weeks time.

bigquotesA home world champs is even more exciting than normal but to have it in a location that is synonymous with mountain biking in the UK takes it to another level. The Tweed Valley lives and breathes mountain biking and a huge number of riders both past and present have learnt their skills and honed their physical talents on the trails. So, to see some of them on the start line, along with the rest of the UK’s finest mountain bikers, tackle this beast of a course is going to be incredible.

We’ve selected a squad of the strongest cross-country mountain bikers in the country which includes world, Olympic and Commonwealth medallists, down to the next generation of young talented individuals. It’s going to be exciting to see what they can do on home soil with such a passionate home crowd supporting them. Of course, we’re here to win some medals and rainbow stripes but we also want these riders and this amazing event to inspire the next generation of mountain bikers to continue to take this sport from strength to strength.—GBCT’s Mountain Bike Development Coach, Matt Cox

 I'd love to see what Tom Pidcock could do in enduro or downhill, just out of interest

 Saw him downhilling with the Goat in Châtel last year after the worlds. Seemed pretty ”handy” from what I saw

 Harriet Harnden making the dh team after previously being on the UK XC and Cyclocross teams. I imagine if there was an enduro world champs she’d be on that was well given she’s sitting 4th in the overall.

 Would this be a first? I can't think of any woman or man, in recent years at least, that's ever competed in world champs in all those 3 off-road disciplines? (plus enduro now as well!)

 An amazing talent and achievement. It’s probably still count on one hand the number of DH races she’s entered.

 @bgoldstone: there’s some two discipline names in xc and dh come to mind (as opposed to dh and enduro). Juliana furtado got xc and dh. Guess Anne caroline chausson with dh and bmx?

 this list shows how big DH is compared to XC in the UK ... or do they just have less spots in the race for XC?

 The UK can't fill their quotas for XC - You're allowed 7 riders, and they can only find 3 each for men & women's Elite races......
It's a constant moan that they don't do enough to attract riders to XC; most of the talent is directed to Track/Road.....even Cyclocross is more a route to road racing than XC....
