Cedric Gracia Signs with Giant

Cedric Gracia has announced on social media that he is joining Giant.

After signing with Forestal Bikes after a decade with Santa Cruz in 2019 Cedric Gracia has now partnered with Giant. In Giant Bicycles France's post about the news, it says Cedric will be using his past experience to help the development of new products.

 @notthatfast: sure, you've got to sell whatever sells, wether it's e-bikes, normal bikes or mopeds. And that products often are shit when they get on the market is true aswell.
If there is more electeonics and software involved, it's harder all the way to impossible to repair...

 I wonder why people hate e-bikes, but still shuttle and ridebike parks with uplifts. It's basically the same thing in principle, just more flexible.

 @Phipu: in germany last year, 48% of all sold bikes were ebikes. 18% were electric mtbs. 3% were non electric mtbs. if you really think you can operate a shop in such an environment by ignoring a huge slice of the market you are not really a good entrepreneur…

You're talking about liquorcycles. Aprillas, Honda Ruckus...those are motorized. Not MoPeds.

I rode mopeds as a kid in the 80's. Start to pedal, it kickstarts a weak ass motor. You still have to pedal up the same hill, but the motor helps your ass out. You get there faster than you would on a bicycle.
But you don't get there or have the fun of a moto. You look stupid to the guy on a moto.
You look lazy to the cyclist as you pass...still having to breath heavily.

They were a stupid waste of money in the 80s. Still are now.

Mopeds CAN have pedals, but don't have to. Pedelecs (ebikes as disussed in this forum) HAVE to have pedals. No mopeds nowadays have pedals. Stop comparing the present with the 80's because the 80's are long past.

Unless you still ride around on a 80's MTB, STFU and have go have som fun on your bike instead of gatekeeping, it makes you look more stupid than the guys who have fun on their ebikes who pass you sorry ass and makes you look like an old fool.

You obviously haven't tried an eMTB proper and seem to hate fun. (Yes eMTBs are fun, and yes I have tried several and own one as well as regular meat-bikes)

 @blowmyfuse: brilliant insult, nice work. It's a shame things have gone this way but I'm still interested to see where things go. Most of us will at least try one at some point.
At the moment I totally agree with you. Imagine, carrying around a heavy battery and motor and I've still got to pedal the thing? Worst of both worlds. Garbage ;-)

If you REALLY want to get into semantics, which it seems like you do, the traditional definition of the word "moped" is incorrect anyways because they don't have a motor (electric), they use an internal combustion engine. Those two things are quite distinct and so I'm pretty sure that despite your personal feelings towards mopeds we can both agree that a "moped" by its current colloquial definition is quite different to a class 1 electric mountain bike, whether you like it or not, both legally and physically.

hence why just about anything powered by an engine is preceded by motor... motor vehicle, motorbike, motorcar, motorboat, motorhome... etc.

Its a device which converts a form of energy into mechanical energy to produce motion, be it electricity or fuel.

 @notthatfast: The only people trying to change the definition of an e-bike from moped to anything else are the ones too embarrassed or ashamed to take them where they belong on the motocross trails where maybe some will laugh at them. Others might appreciate their efforts to work with their fellow motos on the designated trail systems.

But they won't. E-mopeds want to LEACH on the ADVOCACY efforts of decades of incredibly hard work, negotiation, compromise and MONETARY INVESTMENT BY THE MTB COMMUNITY and just take over all of that access.

The drive to steal away and associate electric mopeds with cyclists and mountain bikes is just as lazy as the effort it takes to pedal them.

E-bikes either belong with motos or they need to develop their own separate advocacy, resources, MONEY, LOBBYISTS & TRAILS.

Until you do it all yourself for the sport you love...you'll never have a passion. E-bikes are just leaches on the back of a community.

 @blowmyfuse: it's a product designed to fit a legal loophole (no road tax, insurance, numberplates, mot etc). It will always be compromised. I wonder, if Surons had the same legal rights and freedoms as bicycles, how many pedal assist bikes would be sold.

The bay area ebike club or whatever they call themselves was like 15 electric mopeds strong at my local trail head week or two ago and already the trails were looking blown out from so much heavier traffic and zero riding skills. E bikes are pathetic and the people who ride them are lazy

 I wondered that too and asked forestal. He apparently was never a share holder or something alike of forestal and just sponsored by them. they ended their contract last year

 @bashhard: I was following Forestal for a while and eager to see what they would bring to the market but now I wonder if they even make mountain bikes anymore. I don’t think there has ever been a review here or NSMB or Vital. Shame as they seemed innovative.
