Bex Baraona on stage 4

Ahead of a full day of racing on Saturday riders are already back on course for the first-ever EWS Pro Stage. Following Wednesday's frantic day of racing where Isabeau Courdurier and Richie Rude came out on top riders face a single-stage challenge before taking on another four stages tomorrow. The Pro stage is a new format for 2021 with the riders taking on a single stage with bonus points and seeding positions for the top 5 men and the top 3 women up for grabs.

It looks like last-minute rain could have affected some of the results on the Pro stage so far with some of the earlier riders facing drier conditions. Check out the results below.

"The Pro stage is a new format for 2021 with the riders taking on a single stage"

So kind of like downhill?
  • 8 0
Or just call it a seeding stage, but perhaps explain whether the time counts toward the race result - or if there are just "bonus points".

 @chakaping: google is your friend.

"the new Pro Stage will see the EWS racers take to a short, fast stage in the evening ahead of the rest of the stages the following day. The Pro Stage will offer up extra points to the top five finishers in the Pro men’s and women’s field"

If a 'short, fast stage' takes Shark Attack 6 minutes, it would take me 9, so quite a bit longer than an average DH race.

I'd love to know who's being paid to keep the EWS website's Live Results page up and running.

Bold of you to assume someone is being paid.

 Probably Dick Pound's pound

"Could have effected pro results" haha....uhhhh yeah. None of the top 5 women were within the top 20 yesterday, with only 1 being inside the top 30. Is what it is, rain is part of racing, but VERY CLEARLY made a monster impact.
  • 1 0
That's one nice thing about enduro compared to dh. In enduro weather changes will only effect the results of one stage probably, not the whole race like in dh. Has weather ever had a huge impact on the final results of an enduro? I don't remember any, but I'm forgetful.

@kcy4130: Wyn won a EWS thanks to the rain in Rotorua once
  • 9 2
@chri92: I wouldn't say that. The course was wet for the whole race and Wyn has a home trail advantage there.
  • 21 2
@chri92: Everyone had the same awful conditions that day. Wyn won cuz Wyn's a Winner. Wet Wyn clearly is way wilder, but a Wyn for Wyn is a wonderful win, regardless of weather. So stop your whining.
  • 3 1
@TooManyBikess: not Wyn's home trails. He doesn't live near Rotorua in the slightest and the amount of time he spends overseas means on the odd weekend he may have ridden there, would make him no more knowledgeable of the trails as the next person. And now he lives in old Blighty, so if he is to be a local at anything, then perhaps it's Forest of Dean?
  • 2 1
@handynzl: isn’t he from New Plymouth? Isn’t that pretty close to Rotorua? I know He lives in Europe now. Just saying the rain isn’t the only reason he won that enduro.
  • 2 1
@bonkmasterflex: Wyn also won because it was in NZ, this year it was pretty obvious with a kiwi podium in Rotorua and 7 or 8 frenchies on the top10 in Olargues

Are Richie Rude and Jack Moir secretly the same person? They seem to ride at almost exactly the same speed...
  • 3 0
Read the times wrong for today... amazing how close the last race was though
  • 2 0
How did Rude turn a 5:55 and Moir loose by 5:55,. something tells me ancient aliens are to blame.

@ReeferSouthrland: where's that flat earth guy...he could probably explain it to you...

Is he racing the giga? It's a new bike also thought he had a mechanical on the last one. Top 20 with a mechanical is ok I would say
  • 4 0
@makripper: I believe he's on the Mega. Must be difficult for everyone finding their pace after a long lay off from racing. Didn't Sam have a longer time away than most? It was tougher to leave and re-enter Aus than other countries.
  • 2 0
@makripper: He raced on the mega on Wednesday
  • 7 0
Cobwebs from 18 months of no competition. He’ll be back, hopefully.
  • 3 1
I think the whole team is using the Mega. No racing for over a year must be hard. You never know where you are without that yardstick of competition. Jacko had the best idea with staying in Europe last year. Not something you can do when you have a family though.

@dglobulator: at 11:15, Hill himself seems to reconsider flats vs roots: www.pinkbike.com/news/video-full-highlights-from-ews-val-di-fassa-race-1.html
  • 1 2
Definitely race rusty, he missed last year and he also missed this years team camp in Europe, basically he just flew in for the race, ..he looks very out of shape by his own standards. Has he become complacent ? .. long way to go, but he needs the top 3 guys all to have a disaster race in the future or a crash or something to stand a chance of retaining his title..
  • 2 0
@dglobulator: yeah he took the whole year off didn't he?
  • 3 0
@Afterschoolsports: I thought we were supposed to write a eulogy after 1 bad perfromance, ala Gwin a couple weeks ago!? lmao.

Keep your eyes on Nathan Sterckx rippin it up for that Pro Stage U21 win in Italy all the way from the Laurentians in Quebec. He's been kicking ass since the very first local enduros he consistently won as a young kid. His time is coming - Behold his power and determination. Magnifique Nathan! Montre leur de quoi sont faits les québécois.

Crazy Camille Rast: after a crazy ski World Cup season, a crazy enduro World Series….
  • 4 1
Holy shirt balls, Anna Newkirk would have gone 2nd in women's elite!
  • 2 0
She's really fast. She's been overshadowed by the hype around a certain Austrian in the DH, but we can expect big things from her
  • 2 0
WELL DONE, Anna Newkirk, not only a stage win, but would have been second in Elite.
  • 3 0
Are the top 7 women privateers? Hook the sisters up Wyn!
  • 3 1
Rast brought her skis I bet

 Gotta be reppin' your sponsors

 Congrats to Rachel pageau

Nicely done, Nate! Good to see the young Quebecois smashing it!

How does this affect the points for the fantasy?

This reads as if it's like a quali round at a UCI DH.
  • 4 1
It's just Stage 1 of Round 2. The rest of the stages are happening tomorrow. I believe riders get bonus points if they win the 'Pro' stage, and it sets the seeding positions for the top 5 men/top 3 women. It isn't a standalone event/race in its own right.
  • 2 1
Jack is on FIRE!!!!!!! Maximum Respect bwoooooyyyeeeeeeee
  • 1 2
Best super dh race ever, Rudeboy for the win. Is there another race tomorrow maybe,. Is Sam Hill going to win maybe, am I going to care maybe.
  • 1 0
They should make the pro stage a blind stage to spice things up
  • 2 0
It's pretty hard to hide a stage until race day. Especially if there are local racers.
  • 1 0
Way to go Kate Lawrence !
  • 2 1
 GOO MOIMOI U MADDOG
  • 1 1
Why the top 5 men and only the top 3 women?
  • 1 1
The men's field is a lot bigger than the women's, women only get points for top 25, men get them for top 100
