 Let’s have a flash poll;

Who thinks snow downhill bike racing should get in the sea?

Up vote/down vote accordingly..
  • 36 0
You mean like paddle bike world champs?
  • 14 2
I was thinking Down Hill Racing might be fun — a big hill of fluffy goose down with giant jumps and big cushy crash landings.
  • 26 0
What about stationary bike world championships?? we need that too so much!
  • 1 0
@Trailsoup: you mean pedalo world champs?https://duckduckgo.com/?q=pedalo&t=brave&iax=images&ia=images
Duck against tentacle.

And its electrified sibling with foil jetcycle.fr/en/ejetcycle

@chilakill: Ebike stationary bike world championships.

it don't know if "in the sea" means in favour or not

Downvotes are all French, I reckon Wink

The embarrassment continues. Seriously can't believe that they're giving out World Champ medals/jerseys for this
  • 6 1
Yes and the UCI wants to cover all kinds of racing.
Enduro and Pumptrack where "World Championships" before they became "UCI World Championships".
With Snow Bike World Championships they're greedy right from the beginning

This is clearly an angle to try and get MTB into the Winter Olypmics. The floated doing that with DH a couple of years ago to the derision of everybody, but bad ideas are like bad smells, they're hard to get rid of.
  • 3 0
@Fix-the-Spade: I'm old enough to remember this is how they got mtb into the x-games.
  • 1 2
Uci.. can come up with a format no one wants, yet crickets about an unlimited race series, where you can be whatever you want , use whatever enhancements you want... Winner takes all...
  • 43 2
fuck off and give us 4X instead
  • 4 1
There is a 4X Series! Scott Beaumont actually raced in Chatel as well btw.

I don’t understand all the hate in the event itself. The UCI? Yea they are as corrupt as the Olympic committee, soccer World Cup organizers, etc. and hurt the mtb Sport more than they benefit. But have you ever ridden on the snow? I’m sure you had a blast! That being said, I haven’t seen anything from the event but I’d love to go riding down some ski slopes with a few mates. It was a blast last time we did…
And regarding the UCI… until the entire mtb elite says goodbye to UCI races, ditches the rainbow jerseys and turns to something like crankworx or another alternative “worldcup” that could possibly broadcasted by RedBull for instance, we won’t see a quick change. The riders need to vote with their feet and walk away from the UCI for Warner Bros/UCI to understand what’s going on. And if the riders would do it collectively, it could even benefit them as athletes, IF there is a series that is being broadcasted like the worldcup used to when Red Bull did it.

100% agree. This is where the riders union would’ve been very beneficial had it taken off instead of falling by the wayside. Unfortunately, the only real way I see all the top riders walking away from the UCI (I’m sure some would right now) is if the prize money in the alternative series was much greater than what they make now, and that might be a big ask. I’m still hoping and dreaming of elite World Cup falling into the hands of people who care again, Red Bull or someone else, but for now I think we’re stuck
  • 3 0
@Jdricks: With no money, it's hard for the union to take off. I'm in a large union and our officers, lawyers, etc. are compensated with money from our dues. Basically, the DH union is volunteers who have a lot of other responsibilities. The UCI is a pretty horrible organization that essentially has a monopoly and acts with no fear of negative repercussions.
  • 2 0
1000% for leaving the UCI. They can go back to their shaved legs championships on tarmac.
  • 1 0
@njparider: "The UCI is a pretty horrible organization that essentially has a monopoly" UCI even threatened some road cyclists to participate in some competitions not approved by them.

You can really tell Josh Carlson is on the UCI payroll these days - apparently this is great and just what we need!
  • 7 0
Yeh, not a good look from him going back and forth with other people on this
  • 8 0
Used to respect him, now he’s the impersonation of the clown face emoji
  • 3 0
For anyone wondering what we’re talking about (as it’s all now been deleted) - there were negative comments from Ronan Dunne and Matt Walker, followed by Josh Carlson absolutely refusing to hear a single bad word about the event and insisting it was really good, loads of people were there enjoying it, etc. It wasn’t pretty

Do you know when you're taking a shower and your mind wanders to something you said at a party 20 years ago that wasn't funny and you cringe?

This is worse than that
  • 8 0
Anyone seen any footage of them actually riding? It’s like they are embarrassed to show it because (I assume) it looks so cringe.
  • 1 0
Some photos starting to appear on Instagram now. If they are the best people could find to post then…

I watched the World Bicycle Skiing Championships™ live whilst eating breakfast. The streams still up on face ache:

 Absolute fuckin joke
  • 5 0
I’ve seen some comments from riders complaining about lack of UCI scrutineering and claims of illegal bikes. Is there any more on that?
  • 1 0
The previous articles on here said downhill bikes were recommended but you could choose to ride any type of bike you wanted. Did that turn out to be untrue? I would think unless someone showed up with a motor there shouldn't be any such thing as an illegal bike.
  • 4 0
@lewiscraik I'm sure that you have better inside info than most of us, but were there bikes with spikes over the maximum permitted length?
  • 1 0
@Maxcommencemal: only what I’ve seen on instagram. But yes, there are accusations of extra long spikes.
  • 4 0
I knew the race is going to happen but I didn't know it was today. Nothing on the 'gram, here, or anywhere else. Keep it up UCI media team!
  • 4 0
what bs, just from what danny posted you could see how stupid that event is. for fun, with lots of drunken people, yes sounds cool. but world champs, no

Does anyone have any links to some media or video coverage? I can not seem to find anything even a day out
  • 7 1
No because next to no one has any interest in these weekend events.

There's more than one discipline/event in this gong show?
  • 2 4
My wife has ridden a bike once in the 13 years I’ve been with her. She fell off on a flat straight road - yet she has a sufficient skill set to be top 10 in this world champs event!!
  • 11 14
Such an embarrassing event. Shame on the riders for taking part - should have boycotted it completely rather than supporting UCI’s bullshit
  • 6 0
I suspect some of the riders are doing it for the UCI points
  • 3 0
@SonofBovril: if you were a first year junior wasn't on a major team and lived in the region, you would, right?
  • 8 1
@Maxcommencemal: or an old brit guy looking for a team
  • 6 9
 So much hate.
Why do people fear what they don't understand?
High speed drifting should be enjoyable, not cringe inducing.
  • 29 0
The hate isn't for people trying new sports and having fun. The hate is for the UCI pretending that this is a developed enough sport to deserve a points awarding event and world championship title. There's nothing international about this. There isn't a string of competitions that lead to this. It's making a joke of the UCI and degrades the value of other disciplines.
  • 2 1
@Fill-Freakin: you make a strong argument
  • 7 1
Don't forget that they're slowly killing enduro because they can't be f*cked to put any money into it all the while they spunk cash at this absolute joke of a sport.
  • 1 3
 where TV coverage??
