Would have preferred this in a video format tbh

a podcast would have been nice as well where Dick Pound reads all the Names and Categories

Rainbow Jersey e-MTB. That’s how ya drag a jersey down!
  • 8 1
Apart from a chance of Sagan winning it....
  • 5 5
From what I've heard it just allows the designers to make insanely steep courses, so getting up is a skill in itself. I don't know how you check motor power on the bikes for fairness though
  • 4 2
@HankHank: Rules are different internationally too. USA has a higher top speed than Europe.
  • 10 1
But more importantly, if you think a motor and battrey is cheating, what about Remy Gena (FRA) who has entered twice? does he get to use two bikes?
  • 2 1
@HankHank: wondered about that. curious what kind of mechanical doping checks are in place. and while the top speed assistance is capped, there are certainly power output differences between products, so some bikes would be accelerating faster to said top speed than others. seems difficult to regulate.
  • 8 2
 Moped-lympic medals.
  • 3 4
@xy9ine: as long as top speed assistance is the same, then it’s all good. As far as output differences, that’s no different than having different bike and suspension designs. Some are better than others and you can’t regulate that. That’s up to the manufacturer to make a better product than their competition.
  • 8 0
@Twenty6ers4life: unregulated power output would only push brands to produce the biggest and most motorcycle-oriented ebikes they can, which would push ebike design in the wrong direction, in my opinion.
  • 3 0
you seen the age gap in that emtb field? phew
  • 2 0
@Danmcdan: Sagan said he's approaching it as a fan appreciation ride. Even if he was going for gold, I think he has little chance based on his recent results. It's a super competitive class now.
  • 1 0
@anaughtymouse: I didn’t say to have unregulated power. I said as long as they have the same top speed limit, then it’s all good. The speed IS regulated. How they apply that speed is up to the manufacturer. Different motors will always have different power delivery characteristics and that is ok.

Greg Minaar is such a legend. Period. Check the birthdates, that is simply insane to keep that level of performance that long.
  • 8 3
 Second oldest ... Aaron Gwin!
  • 37 0
I spotted an Error. Greg Minnaar was born in 1881.
  • 6 0
Plus, we were just yesterday told that Matt Walker won't be competing but he's still on the list. Good to see Danny Hart's name up there, hope that means his new child is doing better.

It would have been cool if these governing bodies could get their shit together. I guess Wyn didn't pay the bribe so Cycling NZL they cut out the greatest personality and leader for the sport.
  • 3 0
Same for George Brannigan according to his instagram.
  • 1 0
@tdbh: He is on the list
  • 2 0
@pisgahgnar: No way, that's dope. I guess I missed that, also looks like he took that post down, good for him!
  • 3 0
From Wyn's post in Instagram he does not seem to have enough UCI points - despite his successful World Cup season. We all know that he can bring much more to the table, but there are rules. It sounds like he tried to make bodies look for a solution by changing rules since March, but without success. Bummer.
  • 2 3
Who is this Finn Hawkesby Browne? They made the cut for the team? Surprised, no offense to them, of course, just surprised.
  • 7 0
@chrismac: FHB rips, finished 38th in MSA definitely deserves his spot as does Wyn…..
  • 4 0
@kerberos: Yip. Cycling NZ selection policy was/is fairly straightforward. Spots were filled based off UCI ranking. NZ had 7 spots. Wyn wasn't in the top 7 NZ riders (on ranking points) at the selection date.

Hopefully future policies can have some nuance added to incorporate international performances in the months prior to Worlds
  • 1 0
@Cabin: Does this mean that other countries actually have other policies? That would make his query fair and realistic!
@pisgahgnar
  • 2 0
@kerberos: Correct. All nations have X number of spots available at Worlds. Up to those nations how they develop their on selection policies for how they select their teams. They appear to vary quite a bit between nations.

The NZ scenario is an interesting one. Some unique circumstances/scenarios this year have lead to the rankings (and therefore selections) being as they are at this time. Hopefully what does happen as an outcome, is constructive proposals are made to CNZ for future policy development. Rather than people just getting pitchforks out

 Go Tom Pidcock

Would love to see a Yurpean title today and then XCC and XCO next week.
  • 5 0
No sure PB are aware of Europeans.
  • 8 0
GCN currently showing European Champs. Giving a sneak preview of 2022 World Cup coverage. Commentator was once told about XC racing over a bad phone line, doesn't have any information that isn't on a results sheet or the live timing. Currently enjoying a break from that though, with the second multi-minute technical failure of the broadcast with complete loss of picture and commentary.
  • 2 0
@dougfs: Can't be available in Murica, can't see it listed when I log in to GCN+ on browser or app...or is there some GCN TV channel I'm not aware of?
  • 2 0
@the6thElement: GCN app in the UK. Maybe they didn't have the rights to show it in the U.S.
  • 1 0
@crallint: Thanks, despite knowing the result I watched it this evening. That course was terrible.
  • 11 0
Taylor Vernon, still a privateer. Got to be a first for UK elite? Get the man a ride!
  • 7 0
It'll be criminal if he's not on a pro team again next year.
  • 3 0
@chakaping: definitely this year was very good for him. He said that he had to skip NA rounds because he already had to many days off from his job. I really hope to see him on a factory team next year. Had some bad luck in the previous years but he has the skills. Junior world cup winner, definitely one to watch.
  • 4 0
What does the (S) mean, on few others too?
  • 3 0
I'm really confused because on Instagram Taylor commented on Wyn Masters post about not being selected saying "feel your pain, I'm too old apparently, morzine laps if you're keen"
  • 1 0
 @rscreen: I suspect it means 'stand-by/substitute"
  • 1 0
 @twits:
Ta. I was thinking about reserve, didn’t think of standby wording.
  • 9 0
Who else expected Anna Charlotte GERMANN to actually be American, not german?
  • 8 0
Glad to see Marine Caribou coming back. My daughters will be stoked to see her back on track.
  • 4 0
Yes, and glad to see Balanche and Seagrave back at business too... even if I'm not sure of these infos...
  • 3 0
Cabirou won't race, even if she appears on the list. Might be the same for Balanche and Seagrave.
  • 1 0
@oxentiel: None of those 3 will line up. Tahnée is the only remote possibility. I don't follow her IG so IDK.
  • 1 0
@oxentiel: Yeah I realized after i posted that this list isn't accurate. My phone also corrected her name to Caribou. Doh!
  • 5 0
@Struggleteam: PB editors used to do the same thing when she first hit the big time. Back in the innocent days of sea-faring herd animal jokes.
  • 4 0
@suspended-flesh: I'm sure Tahneé will not race. She's still battling with her concussion. Would say Balanche is the one who is remotely possible. She's back in the gym but some days ago she was not yet allowed to do push ups, so probably not yet.
  • 8 0
 Man, I'm old.
  • 6 0
it happens too fast. It's hard to see that Kate Courtney was born the year I graduated high school, and that some of the U23s are as old as my oldest kid.

  • 7 1
NZ didn't pick Wyn for the DH team alongside his brother (who is firmly ensconced with Enduro?)
  • 9 1
Eddie's on great form for either discipline this year, but NZ's selection criteria seems skewed toward UCI points rather than WC performance. Someone's asleep at the wheel.
  • 3 0
FWIW / in case you're wondering:

UCI Competition Guide says:

The number of riders qualifying for the final are as
follows:

- Men Elite: top 80 riders in the qualifying round
- Women Elite: top 40 riders in the qualifying round
- Men Juniors: top 60 riders in the qualifying round
- Women Juniors: top 15 riders in the qualifying round
For the final in the Men Elite and Women Elite, the “protected riders” are:
- Riders ranked in the top 10 Women Elite and the top 20 Men Elite of the latest world
cup standings of the current season.
Even “protected riders” must start in the qualifying round in order to be entitled to ride the
final.

I thought Mitterwalner had to race U23, because there was no aging up allowed at Worlds. Isn't that what Bart's been saying during the race broadcasts?
  • 2 0
I believe hearing there is a waiver/exemption available based on their performance. Something like Loana.
Sorry, can't find the link anymore.
  • 2 0
@lu-ma: There is no exemption on championship (world or european), even Loana raced U23 while she was racing elite on world cup.
  • 1 0
@lu-ma: IIRC Rob Warner mentioned in a broadcast, and Bart Brentjens didn't argue, but also didn't confirm. Probably just being polite.
  • 1 0
Yes you can apply to race Elite while still being U23. I think Jolanda did this, a few others eventually but it's not very common.
  • 1 0
I too thought you had to race your age category at World Champs. I understand some can go up for World Cups, but not World Champs.
  • 1 0
@iamamodel: World Cup is your free choice, I don't think you have to apply as a U23 to race Elite, even if you're 20 years or whatever (I think it's different for Juniors, especially in DH I believe you have to wait till you're old enough for Elite). Worlds is different, but if you're something like a top 3 rider you can apply to race elite.
  • 2 0
@bohemi: Yes, you can ask for permission to move up to Elite at Europeans and Worlds if your results are good enough. Mona wrote about it on Instagram recently: www.instagram.com/p/ChcrGXbsDO4
  • 1 0
I think they forced Loana to race U23 while she was racing elites because she was the defending U23 champ.
  • 1 0
@Ososmash: Isn't Mona the defending champ? I saw something on her social media (Mona's) that she had asked for the special allowance to race up at Euro and Worlds.

No Reece Wilson- I was looking to see what he could do on that track in 2022. I know he’s had a break lately but hoped he’d still make the GB team cut. Going by his IG, he’s gutted too.
  • 6 5
Bit pissed that Wyn didn't get selected but another rider who is actually from Austraila who has raced one World Cup this year did!! The amount of coverage that Wyn gives the sport and the amount that he gives back should be enough to get him a place but seemingly none of that matters!!!

What exactly has Wyn given back?, his literally the worst guy on a pro team and has been for years and no-one can deny that this is just information based on results. There is probably more then 20 amateurs who regularly beat him, so I would say Wyn can really complain about anything.
  • 3 1
Respect to the eMTB guys born in the 1960's and 70's. Still pushing hard in midlife. Less for those born in the 90's and 00's.
  • 5 0
 Is Tahnee back?
  • 5 0
That was my first thought - although Matt Walker and Connor Fearon are both listed still. I see on Instagram that Cami is well on the road to recovery, but nothing saying she'll be read to race yet. Great to see Aimi on the list as, I believe, the only Pinkbike Racing entrant.
  • 15 0
I doubt it from her Instagram. British Cycling probably looked at a spreadsheet, rather than talking to any dirty mountain bikers.
  • 3 0
@PawnSacrifice: Yes, at first didn't see it. Great to see Aimi getting to Worlds!
  • 10 0
@lewiscraik: Big Grin conversely, with no internet, I think New Zealand Cycling is tucked away in Middle Earth tipping crow bones onto a table.
  • 3 0
 @PawnSacrifice Thank you for that!
  • 1 0
Sadly not, still battling her concussion.
  • 2 1
Wait.. E-XC what is this now? I had to go hit google to reveal that there has in fact been an E-XC world cup in 2022, has it been covered really poorly or have I been under a rock?
  • 1 0
It's the first I've heard of it.
  • 7 3
Motorbike race on similar course to XC MTB.
  • 1 0
It's been around a few years I think. I only know about it because Wyn Masters raced it a while back lol

  • 3 0
Loic Bruni and Loris Vergier both on the list!
  • 3 0
 Minnaar came second in 2004..
  • 3 1
Lukasik in XC, not DH? An error or is he actually doing that? I mean, I don't doubt his fitness but it would be a surprise.
  • 2 0
It is just an error. Should be Krzysztof Lukasik not Slawomir Lukasik.
  • 3 0
Yeah cool but where will it be broadcast?!?!
  • 3 0
Is there a Fantasy League round for the championships?
  • 2 0
can we watch it Live on Redbull.tv ?
  • 2 0
Tahnee and Camille ??? Doesn’t seem right
  • 1 0
Elite Women XC looks full of the fastest and most known from years past. Anyone missing?
  • 1 0
Never mind, Stigger is in U23......
  • 3 0
 Peter Sagan
  • 2 0
E-Peter Sagan is the best Sagan
  • 2 0
Sucks to be a French Elite Man trying to get into world champs these days.
  • 2 0
Um, Fluckiger ain’t gonna make it
  • 1 0
What's up with USA's eMTB team? They look a bit long in the tooth to be battling against Sagan.
  • 2 4
Some nations' rosters are ridiculous; France and the US probably do not need to have so many racers in DH. Same can be said about Switzerland in XC I counted 8 female riders... There should be a limit, at the Olympics, it is 3 riders max per nation maybe 4 at UCI WC should be a thing. the Swiss female team can probably finish 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th in XCO.
I don't really know how that helps the sport grow.

I believe UCI is trying to bolster their numbers because a world championship is supposed to have a mass number of racers but when some continents are represented by just a handful of riders while other are just not present... it doesn't help.

As for TV coverage... Well what tv coverage? I'm hoping CBC Gems broadcast it but not holding my breath. I know France Television will put them online and a vpn is not always necessary... so fingers crossed.

Hopefully with ESO being in charge of mtb at large from next year onward maybe we will have enduro at the world championships
  • 2 0
 Wheres jackson?
  • 1 1
 Banging a supermodel.
  • 1 1
How do they determine start position for the World's, is it just based off of UCI points?
  • 2 0
UCI says in its Competition Guide: "As per the UCI DHI Individual ranking. The best rider starting last."
  • 1 0
No MVP? Thought he’d give it a go.
  • 1 0
 It's not an Olympic year.
  • 1 1
Pretty sure I was just trying to "will" the entry list to show Jackson Goldstone as USA
  • 1 0
Surely there's more than one DH women junior for the USA.
  • 1 0
 Or a single xc man.
  • 1 0
How is the eTeam picked? Or rather, who does the epicking?
  • 1 0
 Maybe an e-lottery?
  • 1 0
 Pojď Standoo !
