Final Results: Albstadt World Cup XC 2019
The first round of the 2019 XC World Cup is over and the controversial track in Albstadt provided some great racing, no matter the weather. In the Elite Women's race, current World Champion Kate Courtney would take the lead in the first lap and continue to build a gap to second place throughout the race. Taking her first Elite World Cup win after winning XCC on Friday shows Courtney is the one to beat this season. After a tough race, Jolanda Neff would cross the line in 2nd place only 49 seconds back. Anne Tauber would be looking strong the whole race, but a huge crash after her front wheel washed out on one of the new wood sections would mean she crossed the line 4th. Yana Belamoina fought her way through the ranks and would eventually end up in 3rd position.
Although taking the win in the women's race, the Scott-Sram team would not have luck on their side in the Elite men's race. Lars Forster would be looking good at the start but after three crashes, the last of which may have caused injury, his race was over. Teammate and current World Champion Nino Schurter would not have a great race either and looked to be struggling to find power. He would finish sixth. Mathias Flueckiger took over the lead on the third lap and would look unstoppable for the rest of the race. He will be the man to watch this season. Mathieu Van Der Poel didn't have the best of starts. but he would quickly find a rhythm and moved into second place on the last lap to finish with one of his best results. Jordan Sarrou would be right behind him, 33 seconds off the winning pace. Titouan Carod and Florian Vogel would complete the podium, around one minute and 20 seconds off Flueckiger's speed.

I see that as potentially being trouble later during the Men's race as well.
I think her story continues to be inspirational given her openness about mental health issues and the pressures of competing at such a high level.

It's not clear from the footage later in the race but I wouldn't be surprised if the reason he crashed again after that was cause his bars went one way and wheel the other?
