Troy Brosnan

With less than a month to go until the first round of the World Cup season in Maribor, this weekend saw the downhill national champions of Australia being crowned in Bright, Victoria. Troy Brosnan laid down an impressive run that would see him put a gap of over two seconds into Dean Lucas. Coming off a third-place finish at last weeks EWS round in Tasmania Connor Fearon would finish 3.6 seconds back putting him in another bronze medal position.

In the Elite Women's category defending champion Tracey Hannah would take the win again but only by 0.5 seconds. Sian A'Hern was so close to taking the win but would have to settle for the silver medal position this year. Tegan Molloy would round out the top three 14 seconds back.

Results:

Elite Men

1st. Troy Brosnan: 3:18.686
2nd. Dean Lucas: +2.255
3rd. Connor Fearon: +3.645

Elite Women

1st. Tracey Hannah: 3:52.136

That win in Valnord ranks as one of my favourite races. Hart and Brosnan have been the best riders over the last 3 years.

@dubod22: Best over last three years would have to at least include Pierron, Gwin, and Bruni if you're looking at everything.

@Fix-the-Spade: Yeah, no doubt. But that was why I said 3 years and not 7 or even just the last year. Pierron was obviously the fastest last year but 3 years ago he wasn't really at the top. Gwin is obviously the fastest but 2018 wasn't his best. That's why I arrived at 3 years. Hart and Brosnan haven't really been out of the top 5 whereas everyone else has chopped and changed.

Jackson Frew with a solid 4th place finish as well. He had a much better 2018 season than 2017 and it looks like 2019 is going to be better for him too.
