Final Results from the Lenzerheide World Cup DH 2021

by Ed Spratt
Fresh off the junior gold medal Izabela Yankova rode to first in qualies by an enormous 18 seconds.

The results are in from the fourth round of the 2021 DH World Cup in Lenzerheide. Jackson Goldstone started today's racing with his third World Cup win in a row and another win after his World Champs win last weekend. Crossing the line just over two seconds back is fastest qualifier Pau Menoyo Busquets. James MacDermid completes the top three Junior Men, four seconds off Jackson.

The Junior Women's racing saw the European and World Champion Izabela Yankova continue her dominance as she bests Gracey Hemstreet by three and a half seconds. Izabela's race time would have been good enough for fifth place in the Elite Women's qualifying.

After some incredible runs, Myriam Nicole bested the Elite Women's field by over two and a half seconds as she takes the win in Lenzerheide. Tahnee Seagrave was back on top form as she finishes in second place. Vali Höll shook off her bad luck this year to secure third place.

It was a French domination in the Elite Men's race as Loris Vergier wins his second World Cup in a row. Loic Bruni is back on top form again as he goes into second place, with the series leader Thibaut Daprela in third place. Amaury Pierron completes the French domination of the podium.

Dean Lucas posting about how covid is a myth and we're all sheeple has lost my support for him. Go anyone else. He's a great bike rider sure, but if you're going to actively put up posts that, encourage people to not take a pandemic seriously, then you are not someone to admire. I'm amazed his sponsors are happy for him to be so vocal with such dangerous and controversial opinions.

My father died because of that "myth" last week,so I really hope Dean's family stay safe and more aware of the reality than him.

@nozes: so sorry to hear about your father.

I'm amazed that sponsors put up with athletes saying stuff like Dean has been saying. To me it's as bad as the racism thing that Perrion did on Instagram.

How can Scott/any of his other sponsors support someone who's ignorance is promoting putting people in danger?

Disgusting. There's more to be a sponsored athlete than getting podiums (which I might add, he dose not).

Some people have died of Covid. There are negative effects caused by governmental response to it, too.
I don’t think it’s useful to argue whether it’s possible to die of it, or whether or not it’s a real thing.
Deffo up for debate is whether lockdowns have been justified or not.

@kylar: as a microbiologist for the last 25 years I am here to tell you that you know nothing about science. You have been conditioned to accept anything that’s based on science yet the organizations that you believe - WHO, CDC, FDA, AMA, etc are all funded by special interests that have long since figured out how to use science and numbers to control public opinion. I think the great tragedy in the world today is the number of people that cannot perform their own research and are completely dependent on someone else telling them “the truth”. Or worse yet, are constitutionally incapable of accepting the fact they have been lied to. And to argue “got us to where we are today” is just stupid. Did we have this much diabetes, obesity, ADHD, cancer, Alzheimer’s, etc.. 200 years ago? No!!! This is all the plan - sick people are the for profit machine. I know viruses, I know immunology, I know the Pharma industry, I know how the FDA operates, and you would have to kill me to take that jab. Look how sick Dak Norton got and he’s double jabbed. The system will have you believe that’s what “saved his life”. No he’s a young guy that with no vaccine and a little prednisone would be fine in a few days. The Governor of W Virginia USA announced yesterday a 25% increase in deaths among vaccinated. You wait and see - people are going to start dropping like flies. Antibody Dependent Enhancement. Dr Vanden Boessche warned the world over a year ago. It’s coming. Mass genocide of epic proportions. Most will not be able to even deal with it. Come back here in a year and read this post.

@ReeferSouthrland: I work with doctors who work in the COVID ward. It is real. Very real. His opinion is not valid. It is wrong.
It is beyond me how we can question the validity of the pandemic, what a virus is, and what vaccines can and cannot do. These things are all facts and I wish all the conspiracy pushers would have a minimal understanding of the science behind the pandemic, the virus or the vaccine.
Conspiracy pushers do not have a single valid argument and zero proofs. All they have is “I don’t believe it” or “you can’t prove that”. Neither is an argument that it is not true.

@Larkey1 So you would rather cancel a guy who has a largely accurate opinion (the virus almost exclusively only becomes a disease in the elderly. It is statistically no more dangerous than influenza for the under 60’s) while your police tear gas and shoot people with rubber bullets for one C19 case?
  • 16 4
@Cc135R: How many dead are 1.6% of the USA? Kill those over a 2 year period. Thats a lot of deaths. The financial/economic impact of having a much larger percentage of patients for 2 weeks in an ICU or ward is huge. It is dangerous.
  • 21 8
@Snuzz: First, it's a corona virus, not an influenza virus. But let's not get picky. Go back 100 years and have a look what the flu did then. So don't down play it. The big difference is that we have a quite good vaccination program against the flu and a rolling heard immunity. Neither exists for this virus. We first need to establish it before we will stop clogging up ERs.
  • 46 6
@swellhunter: From one scientist to the other. Get off the kool aid. if you understand science, as you claim you do, you would understand that the system you describe cannot work. Even if you should have a screwed system in the USA, there are a few other countries that don't and the numbers and the science is very much corroborating one another. Antibody dependent enhancement? Really? And you claim to be educated? You can pick up one of those vaccine bottles and run it through your lab. Bet you you won't find much other than what it says on the tin.
We did have diabetes, cancer, obesity etc 200 years ago, but we lived on average 20 years less, had less food, moved much more (no cars and had to work with our hands and feet!), and were globally only 1/7th of what we are now. We also tended to die of these diseases undiagnosed.

Smart kid, must have done his research on real science and not listening to the political science. Young metabolically healthy are at ZERO risk , it’s a head cold for them if they even catch it.

Only people getting sick/dying are obese, metabolically unhealthy and hormone-d (vitamin-d) deficient. There is a reason Japan has 100 deaths per million vs New York that has 3,000 deaths per million.

These side effects from these things they call “vaccines” are not so “rare” and they are most dangerous/damaging vaccines in history.

Reports like this Kyle Warner guy (might have permanent heart damage) are everywhere

@mitochris: You won’t get heard immunity with leaky vaccines (at best they’re therapeutic injections). You just run the risk of creating more symptomatic mutations. The virology 101 response would be to isolate and protect the vulnerable while the virus is permitted to run through the population until herd immunity is acquired. What we currently have is governments adopting a Zero COVID policy that is impossible to achieve but has the handy byproduct of never ending fear. That allows all sorts of fun policies to be implemented like vaccine passports and rolling lockdowns. Governments love those as the fracture social cohesion and gets us fighting amongst ourselves while the continue their games of corruption based wealth creation.

A small amount of ER’s were busy with the wild virus. Luckily the Delta variant seems less symptomatic so it’s unlikely to happen moving forward as the dry tinder (gross term I know) has already been consumed.

@jclnv: current predictions require a hire vaccination rate, but still possible.
no, the virology response is not that. would you do that with Ebola? I assume you mean for this virus. I can just ask again. The number of hospitalisations is too great for any society to manage. Not only would you not be able to treat all, but you would also delay/miss other patients. We still have to pretend to treat the "dry tinder" after all.
It is debatable whether lock-downs are still required. I suspect that once vaccination numbers are higher it will stop. There is no way that there is a world wide conspiracy from all governments, hospitals, scientists etc to fool the population just for some governments to control their population. I won't even debate something like that.

@mitochris: it’s a case of trying to get re-elected in democracies or to appear competent and not lose control of the population in dictatorships.
An alternative thing to do would have been to have soft lockdowns and let everyone catch Covid if they wanted to take the chance. If they did that we would have lost maybe a few percent more people, almost exclusively very old or unhealthy ones, and on with our lives 14 months ago. Would that be preferable to what we have experienced instead? That’s a matter of opinion. I think that would have been referred to as the Darwinian approach, and I did read that the UK government favoured that plan until the PR department told them they would lose the next election if they did it.
What’s more important? Doing what you believe is best, or maintaining power?
  • 13 4
@jaame: the problem is that getting infected was not necessarily your choice. You get it from others. Did governments mess up? Maybe, probably. But leaving it up to the individual doesn’t work. So you say that governments want to control you but instead of keeping lockdowns in place the uk gov opened despite scientists saying it’s too early. So yeah. They are double bluffing us. On the one hand we say they can’t tie their shoe laces but on the other hand they can pull off the most convoluted conspiracies. Na. Not buying it. I stick to the simpler explanations.
  • 11 13
@mitochris: yeah but tons of people have died anyway. It’s not like lockdowns saved most of those at risk. Most of the at risk died anyway from what I can guess looking at the stats.
When you measure success in the binary life:death, the whole picture is lost. A lot of lives have been wrecked by the policy of the last 18 months. Students, the young. Whole percentages of life experiences lost to never be reclaimed - it must be hard to swallow in the knowledge that if you caught it you would have been fine anyway (touch wood).

@mitochris: I believe the virology response to a Corona virus is to let it into the population until it becomes endemic. If that wasn’t the case why did the WHO not try and restrict the virus in China?

Vaccination rate based on what? Computer modelling like Neil Ferguson used to convince the UK government to abandon a herd immunity approach because 5 million people would die? An utter impossibility. In any case Israel is proving that boosters will be required on an bi-annual basis at the very least, so it begs the question, how much spike protein in the vaccines over the longterm is worse than contracting the virus?

I do not believe at this stage hospitals would be overwhelmed as there are numerous, effective, treatments that prevent the disease progressing to an acute stage. One of the reasons some hospitals struggled with high numbers initially was that people with a positive test were told to go home and wait until their symptoms were so bad that would require hospitalization. Exactly what happened to my parents and an absolutely ridiculous situation that I’m sure caused thousands of unnecessary deaths.

I think you’re being very naive if you don't think governments have seized on this pandemic to increase division and fracture social cohesion. That’s the primary goal of any government as it often leads to reelection. Why else have we gone from 2 weeks to flatten the curve to vaccine passports and restrictions for the unvaccinated? (I can barely believe that is the current reality). Then there’s the little matter of pharmaceutical multinationals and 160 billion dollars in vaccines? Have you never wondered why any non-vaccine treatment was utterly derided and the person mentioning it was heavily mocked by media/institutions for mentioning it?

Anyone who thinks the response to this virus is simply governments acting in the best health interests of the public is either completely indoctrinated by the media or has lost the ability to think critically.

@swellhunter: If you're actually a microbiologist, you'll know that everything you said here contradicts what the vast majority of top immunologists and infectious disease experts have said. Are you an expert in those fields, and or are you at the very top of your profession? Is there a reason why we should accept your word, when you're clearly spouting the same propaganda we see from typical right-wing political sources who have sought to politicize this pandemic in order to cover for their incompetent response?

The fact is, in places like British Columbia, where our vaccination rate is nearing 80%, the number of new cases is vastly lower than in other parts of North America, and the current new cases are nearly 80% unvaccinated.

www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/unvaccinated-vaccinated-covid-data-bc-1.6151008

These numbers aren't difficult to understand, even for a questionable microbiologist.

Six times more likely to die from Covid. It has not been widely reported seemingly. It is not just the old. It is not just the flu.

This is a pretty insane witch hunt thread. I only ever saw him post two things about COVID, neither of them anti Vax or conspiracy, but rather about the irony that we (governmentally) get fired up about COVID deaths, but not suicide (leading cause of young male death in Australia) or general health (leading to heart disease, etc).
  • 8 9
@Mitch243: haven’t you read the memo? Covid is the only illness there is this year. All the others have become Covid. Car crash? Nah mate, that was covid.
  • 15 4
Cool story @Larkey1 but that isn't what Dean said or what was implied by his post. If everybody goes and looks at his latest Insta stories this morning you will see his original post was about how healthy lifestyle is not mentioned enough by government as a way for the majority of people to beat Covid and I believe there was also some mention of how damaging lock-downs have been to both individuals and society as a whole. Sounds like a pretty fair and solid opinion to me.
  • 9 1
@nathanhughes: came here to say almost exactly the same thing, but we all know some won't look at the post, after all, why let evidence of what he said get in the way of a good witch hunt!

@Willikers: woops, sorry Pompon. Enjoying the women's racing more than ever.
  • 5 2
@jaame: I agree that the response to the pandemic was bad in most places. I also do not advocate a shut down. But please consider the reaction of the majority of British people to "recommendations". The British public is not known for its compliance to rules. The affect of lockdown on the mental health of people, domestic abuse etc was huge and I hope we can learn from it as a society in the future. But now we have a simple solution to get out of this mess by getting vaccinated and people come up with the most buzzer conspiracy theories why not to get vaccinated. Consider that even now, 30% in most European countries are not fully vaccinated. What proportion of the population has actually had covid? I know there were no tests in the beginning and there will be many people that did not get tested but had it, but I would be surprised if more than 50% of the population in the UK actually had had COVID last year. So you might still have 15% of the population not protected. Thats still a lot of people. and to prevent breakthrough infections you need a high degree of the population to be immune.
My problem is that with people like jclnv advocating to remove the "dry tinder", this is eugenics. Very clear and simple. Suggesting to kill the old and weak is a society I don't want. To prevent increased hospitalisations we just don't treat anyone over 65? We do all get older, so it will be our turn at some point?
  • 6 3
@jclnv: I do not believe the strategy was eugenics. The WHO has only limited powers. Do you really think they can shut down a country? Was the pandemic handled incorrectly in the beginning? Absolutely. It was underestimated that it could travel with asymptomatic carriers. Models always give worst-case/best-case scenarios. The 5M was worst case scenario. Israel has around 75% of fully vaccinated people. This means that 25% are not. The data from Israel shows what epidemiologists knew all along. A certain % of people need to be immune to prevent breakthrough infects. This is not new to this virus and known for every single vaccine we have. Why do you think we need more than 90% vaccinated against measles? Because we otherwise have spreading in the vaccinated population too. We need to get the numbers for covid down, vaccinate the population to keep it there. This will also prevent the likelihood of variants that evade the vaccine. This is simple population genetics. We know from other vaccination programs (i.e. TBE) several shots are required and need to be refreshed regularly. So does the flu. But studies show that the current program seems to be good for at least 1 year against covid. So unless you are compromised, you will need need to get multiple shots per year.
Hospitals were overwhelmed. If a small rural hospital has 6 ICU units and 4 are occupied for 3 weeks by a covid patient it only is 66% full, but it only takes 1 car accident and a planned operation to make it full. In the beginning we had no idea how to treat patients. Thats why they said stay at home as long as you can, because why should you fill a bed in hospital? We have better treatments now, and despite conspiracies, the research on it is going at full strength, with millions poured into it. But treatments are a short term solution and does not necessarily make you immune to future infections, rewiring you to get treated over and over again. A vaccine solves this problem. And the cost
Yes, some governments have tried to exploit the situation. On both sides of the political spectrum. Cant really argue the the USA republicans are not trying to jump on this as some sort of anti-democracy thing, while the former president wanted to have the vaccine called after himself. But you have to see that there are other countries. This is not and cannot be a global conspiracy. And if we look around. Thos governments that seek to use all means to stay in power to not promote divide. They censor and oppress the opposition.

@deanosmachineos has just put up a insta story stating that you have misunderstood his post and that COVID is real and he isn't an anti vaxer.

@mitochris: "For COVID-19 mRNA Vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna), the biodistribution studies in animals were not conducted."

Does not look that "rare" to me?
You think that the spike proteins these are generating are staying in the local injection site and not getting distributed throughout the body?
You think that the spike proteins these are generating are harmless?
You think this is a good idea to inject this into the population every 6 months?

@Tracefunction: and now I'm his biggest fan. Because it's true.
  • 2 2
@in2falling: current numbers are rare. Read the back of any medication, even paracetamol. You have side effects with everything.
MRNA is injected and will enter various cells throughout the body, where the spike protein then will be produced. The immune system recognises these and build a response. The spike protein will also be produced during a natural COVID infection. The mRNA will be destroyed within days and then spike protein production stops. I doubt the spike protein hangs around very long, but I have not red those studies, so I wont comment on it.
Yes, I think that in most cases the spike protein is harmless.
We won’t need to get vaccinated every 6 months. Current research shows a solid response even 1 year later.
Current hospitalisation in Sweden is 90% not fully vaccinated patients, with the remaining mostly either immune deficient or come from outside of Sweden and the vaccination status is not clear. At least these were the numbers we were recently given. Since this matches very well with observations from around the world, this seems to be quite valid.
Is more research required? Of course. Is the mRNA vaccine rushed? The technology has been in research for 20 years. And yes, also with animal studies. But not with the spike protein in mind.

@weaverlandbikepark360: to everyone defending dean by saying that covid is a hoax or not a big deal, he's now backing down on his statement on his insta story...

How's that for a valid opinion?
  • 4 5
@mitochris: Believe what you want to believe. But it is pretty apparent that these are not “rare” and continuing down this route is a slow process of systemically poisoning of the population

  • 3 1
@in2falling: this is not based on belief. It’s based on numbers. And what on earth would be the point of systematically poisoning the population? Especially that part of the population that does what you tell them to do? If I would want to have obedience, then you remove the ones that do not obey. So maybe this vaccine is actually there to weed out the ones that don’t listen to the overlords. (Sarcasm out)

The majority of the population in BC is in the Vancouver area, which has a population density similar to other metro areas in North America.

However, the Vaccine rate is extremely high here, which is matched by the low rate of hospitalizations among vaccinated. The vast majority of hospitalizations are the unvaccinated, and they are absolutely being reported. Unless your contention is that 'different cultures' are letting their relatives die at home instead of taking them to the hospital.

Eating healthy and training hard makes for better DH runs = Suspension is a hoax.

The internet strikes again. Lol
  • 2 2
@mitochris: and numbers are based on administrative policies and practices.
What is documented as "hospitalized" in one country is classified as a visit in another. PCR false positives are STILL being recorded and then documented as positive cases. Covid19 being attributed and recorded as the cause of death for any person who died while infected is dubious at best, and dishonest objectively.
That is just the tip of the iceberg. But based on that alone people are rightfully distrustful of the situation and the people steering it.
  • 2 3
@jayacheess: I read the CBC link and it was hot garbage.
Vague phrasing, and terms which allow for liberal (nonpolitical) interpretation are nothing to build an argument on. I figured if a person's going to read an article like that and find it compelling then it's silly to waste time on their other link.
  • 3 4
@jayacheess: But let's take your mecca of BC, you talk about it having low numbers and then shift the focus to just Vancouver, what was the point of referencing all of BC? How do you rectify that with places outside of Canada in which the vaccinated are being hospitalised more?
Should we question what it means in different countries to be hospitalised once data doesn't line up with how you want it to? Do we look at policies which force hospital staff to record some things differently?
Speaking of cultures, my contention was that Cdns with asian ancestry are smart enough to see doctors who speak "their" language and play by different rules. Under-reported "cases" only increase the survivability rate of a virus which mostly kills people over the average age of life expectancy.
Speaking of numbers, do you have even a slight inkling as to how policy and directives can massively warp numbers?
But if there is no warping then you're left with data indicating the vaccinated in some countries are worse off, what do you do with that?
Go run to the your precious cbc and ask your government run....err sponso....err "subsidized" news agency to tell you what to think.
Good luck.

  • 5 1
@sonuvagun: the problem is that you have no evidence for your comments. If you have false positives you will also have false negatives. PCRs are very reliable and the number of false positives is very low. Look at New Zealand. No cases for months despite extensive testing. Now they have cases, which they detect.
A visit to the doctor is never a hospitalisation. In no statistic. You are informed wrong there. And yes, in some cases cause of death might differ but if you are referring to icebergs, then I would say that your cases of unrelated deaths despite covid infection are a drop in the ocean. We will get better numbers with time but numbers are generally corrected upwards, not downwards.
Scientist who look at the numbers are not all part of some super conspiracy. And the numbers are not provided by one dude in a shady suit. Most regions regions are run independently, providing independent numbers. They all lie? Really? I’m sorry, but you are misinformed.

@ODY89: Interesting and unfortunate. Seasonal influenza also kills far more children (%) than C19. Why haven’t we been wearing masks to protect them every season?
  • 3 1
@jclnv: Because the Flu is no longer new (Novel) and we know how it behaves, have treatment capabilities and there are some sorta-effective vaccinations. I never had a flu shot but I got my Gates 5G jab as soon as I could like a good sheep because I'm not stupid or scared.
  • 3 3
@suspended-flesh: Yes and there are treatments available for C19 that are vastly more effective than the vaccines at preventing death. Bizarrely they’re not widely know due to the media discrediting anything other than a patented injection. Regardless children still die in greater numbers from influenza than C19. I never got the jab as I understood early on that the virus will simply mutate away from the vaccines rendering them useless and I didn’t really want to sign up for endless bi-annual vaccinations. Especially when they are linked to a passport.

@mitochris: New York city reported a sudden increase in the number of dead bodies overflowing their morgue release. The story failed to include it was due to an administrative change shortening the amount of time bodies are kept from weeks down to days. Damage done, people scared.
The high number of PCR false positives are real, why you would pretend that isn't the case or demand evidence (when it's impossible you haven't seen it yourself) tells me you WANT things to be worse than they are.
In some countries, like in Italy, people were sent to the hospital based on a + PCR test. Also, clinics and hospitals received government money for every "case." So, like in Poland, Czech Rep, and others, some hospitals were dedicated (still are) to Covid19 testing facilities and for keeping anyone who had a positive test. The problem is in some cities THAT is the only hospital with facilities to handle other medical problems so people went in for "Covid" so the doctors would pay attention to them at all.
Evidence? Just challenge yourself and it's all around you.
  • 8 1
@jaame: As you say, it's not up for debate that the virus is a real thing and has killed millions of people. But the effects of lockdowns are similarly demonstrable in statistics, ie. lockdowns have a preventative effect on the rate of infection and ultimately the death toll. If keeping the death toll down is the purpose of lockdowns then they serve their purpose.
There are some very negative 'collateral' effects of lockdown: ie. for businesses, job security, individual financial situations, family life, domestic violence and general mental health. These are again fairly easy to demonstrate statistically. I guess the debate is whether these negatives are worth the trade off of a functioning healthcare system and lower death toll.

@jclnv: anti-science.... read what you wrote, it is exactly that.

"Science" is just a term used in the press releases and by the internet, its not what we use in the medical industry. Wink
  • 1 2
@betsie: I wrote it in response to the narratives use of ‘the science’ or ‘I follow the science’. As if there is only one version of the science.
  • 3 2
@jclnv: exactly! I’ve said this a few times and always get downvoted TF by everyone. “The science” is bandied around as a binary concept of right and wrong, good and evil. As if there is only one “science” and it is the one singular answer to everything - much like the concept of God probably was a thousand years ago. Thou must not question The Science - he is all knowing!
  • 4 1
@swellhunter: As someone who who has family that is one of the top infectious disease experts in the US, go blow yourself. You need to get off Facebook.
  • 4 1
@jaame: you clearly don’t understand science. It is obviously not binary. Science is questioned all the time. That’s its definition. But you question it with science, not belief..
  • 2 1
@mitochris: I know what science is. I have a science degree. My point is not about science, but about “the science” as presented by politicians and media organisations. The way they feed the term to the masses, as if using it proves their argument is 100% accurate and correct at all times, which of course it does not.
Yes scientists test hypotheses and use their evidence to support or disprove them. Everything is open to interpretation, statistics can be manipulated to support an argument. Models are used to predict future events to degrees of probability. I’m totally down with science. It’s what got us to where we are, despite its nature of trial and error.
What I’m not down with is people being fed the term “the science” in a way that suggests they can’t question it, and must follow what they are told to follow according to the government or media’s interpretation of it.
I’m not questioning whether or not Covid is a thing or whether vaccines work. I am questioning how many ways there are to skin a cat. I am also wondering why there is so much hate for people who hold different views, even ones that are probably wrong. So much righteousness!
  • 3 0
@jaame: you realise that they are using the term 'the science' because they are making policy decisions which could be based on a range of factors and this is one. Each factor had it's own term. 'the science' - which is where scientists working in the civil service and in official advisory positions tell them things, sits alongside 'our promises', 'political necessity', 'our electability', 'my beliefs', 'what I feel is right', 'what will make this thing less damaging to us' etc. Each of these presents a range of options. They get information and they make a decision and then maybe things happen. Most of the public have been asking for years for their leaders to base their decisions on evidence and this is in that managerial vein. You don't like it well maybe we shouldnt have asked for it. But what it is not is a conspiracy between the government and the media and it's not rocket science to work this out. It's a term...
  • 2 1
@jaame: possibly because those "views" in many cases stretch all the way to what one might term "absolutely batshit beliefs". You have to draw the line somewhere if you want to limit the damage these "views" (a.k.a. superstitions and plain untruths in many cases) can cause. The problem is we struggle to agree on where this line should be. Because "views" and lack of clarity from governments who, in some cases, are purely looking out for their electoral hopes. But who decides which governments this applies to? It's a tangled web and one that it is easy to get stuck in if you're looking for simple, comforting answers as to why things are happening. "The science" is an ever evolving beast, but that shouldn't make it vulnerable to attack from people who found their arguments on feelings built upon misinformation, skewed pseudo-scentific "evidence" and political ideology.
  • 1 4
 @BenPea:
You should no support censorship. EVER. Because the people who get to decide what it is and enforce it are the people who benefit most from its existence.

The "views" you may be referring to are no different in terms of being "absolutely batshit" than the people who just digest as fact whatever is deemed to be official. We went from knowledge that politicians are in it for their own skin to putting them in charge of what we put in our bodies- it's been patently ridiculous to watch.
We've gone from full knowledge that big pharma is out to sell as much of anything they can to buying as much of whatever they tell us we have to inject.

Numerous doctors and researchers in North America and Europe have stated they have been censured, and in some cases censored with regard to their opinions conflicting with the status quo of Covid 19. In fact no dissenting opinions are allowed, that's what communist, and fascist governments did in the 20th century.
If one expresses a dissenting opinion or interpretation of data, it's labelled as conspiratorial nonsense-if no dissenting opinions are allowed with fear of reprisal then how can objective science go on at the public level? It can't.

FFS, even suggesting that this didn't come organically from chinese people eating bats, but instead came out of the lab which concocts viruses, and has financial and research ties to various parties involved in covid research has been labelled as a crazy conspiracy theory. Think about that, the f'n media managed to convince people that this came from Chinese people eating bats. That was the official explanation.

Corruption is real, egos are real, fear is real and those are tools that are being used to warp public perception. We are in stage 3 testing of a vaccine that doesn't work. Since it's not actually a vaccination if it doesn't prevent infection or spreading, the CDC just changed the meaning of some words and all's good.
Again, that's what communist and fascist governments did less than a century ago.

I can only throw up my hands in frustration at the intellectual cowardice I'm seeing from so many people who are much more intelligent than me. I'm done.
  • 3 0
@jaame: I agree with you. Too often the scientific approach is dumbed down or misused. An article I was suggested to read further up illustrates this very clearly. Misuse of science is a problem. At the same time, you have to simplify things. If we would start talking about probability, p values, variation etc then we would only confuse. Apparently everyone is an expert on PCRs suddenly, not understanding how it works, let alone having run one.
All I am saying is that there is a lot of good science out there which has been spot on to the current development. And yes, there are things implemented that are not based on the science but I disagree that it is a global conspiracy to take over the world.
  • 1 0
@sonuvagun: "Think about that, the f'n media managed to convince people that this came from Chinese people eating bats. Its not the eating, if you properly cooked and handled a riddled coronavirus animal you could chow down on it like no tomorrow, its the proximity which is the problem, as it is for most other novel viruses which come from animals in this way all over the globe, according to 'the nasty bad scientist propagandists'.

@sonuvagun: Oh for sure I don't know as I am sure you don't either. Its just that the vast majority of novel virus events come from animals near humans. But it could be the lab. I'm just not going to go all off on one online lol

  • 2 0
@BenPea: What do you object to drone?
  • 1 0
@jclnv: is there supposed to be a comma before "drone". I'll assume so.
I object to people being whiny bitches about simple measures like wearing a mask (because facebook science and also they look weird and if I can't see my own face I can't remember who I am) and others not knowing the difference between the virus and the frigging vaccine.
  • 1 0
@jaame: not sure where you get complaining about. Guess we speak a different English up here to where you are from.
Enjoy your riding fella.
  • 2 3
@BenPea: How long are you going to wear a mask for? The virus produces a spike protein that’s cytotoxic, as does the vaccine. How many booster shots are you going to take?
  • 3 0
@jclnv: hopefully more than you will.
We can give you a Darwin award now if you'd like.
  • 1 3
@Larkey1: You don’t know do you? You’ve lost the ability to think critically and the government is making your decisions.
  • 4 0
No, they don't want us to die. Is that a critical enough thought for you?

What's your motivation? Ensure that as many people die while giving the finger to imaginary evil world governments?
  • 2 4
I would say his motivation is that he’s cheesed off that there have been really long lockdowns which he thinks are unnecessary, and now he’s being forced by an act of law to take a vaccine that he doesn’t want. It’s perfectly reasonable. I wouldn’t be too happy about those either, especially not the vaccine mandate. Not so much the vaccine as the mandate.
  • 3 3
@Larkey1: Yeah governments really look out for your best interests don’t they? They allow, amongst others, glycoside to be sprayed on crops, antibiotics and growth hormones in meat, numerous petrochemical products from sunscreens to drink packaging, all known cancer causing agents. They knowingly allow highly addictive antidepressants to be legal that are causing an ongoing epidemic of suicides. They are consistently underfunding healthcare and education while bloating their own institutions. They support mass immigration that is smashing the social cohesion, reducing labour pay rates and standard of living, imprison and vilify whistleblowers who release factual information of their corruption

And you seriously think they give a shit about you? This bullshit started (in Canada at least) with two weeks to flatten the curve and now we have a form of medical apartheid were people who do not want to take part in a potentially lifelong vaccine program aren’t allowed to access businesses and public services. Do you really think it’s going to end there if the masses keep sucking this junk up? Holy crap the naivety.

What’s my motivation? My daughter.
  • 5 1
 @jclnv: tldr

Just get the vaccine and look after the people around you.

I read the last line about your daughter, I'm sure that if she doesn't share your views she'll be fine
  • 4 1
@Larkey1: a little distrust of government is not a bad thing.
  • 1 0
@BenPea: If you honestly think people are objecting to wearing masks because of the reasons you've just stated then you msu well be the one who needs to get off your fb gossip group.
  • 3 1
@sonuvagun: The last reason I made up, just to illustrate the lack of sensible reasons why the vast majority shouldn't be able to wear a mask in certain contexts for as long as it is deemed judicious based on case numbers and deaths. Come on, it won't be forever and they help avoid more Draconian measures that nobody wants.
Never had a FB account, I'm pleased to say.
Governments suck to varying degrees, but it doesn't mean they are flat out trying to f*ck us over at every single opportunity. It's all more chaotic and complex than people want to believe and vaccines are the one thing that takes exiting this pandemic out of the hands of the authorities and into those of medical science, which is surely a good thing.
  • 1 1
@jaame: agree completely. Never trust a politician completely, but in this instance I don't think they're trying to kill us OR turn is info Microsoft drones or whatever
  • 2 1
@Larkey1: I don’t either, but I don’t believe in vaccine mandates. Thankfully we don’t have one. I am double vaxxed out of choice. If people don’t want to get vaxxed for reasons of their own we should respect that. I mean, a vaccine that was developed in one and a half years instead of one and a half decades seems like a reasonable reason to me… but I don’t know the details. It could be a cut and paste by this point, I don’t know. I don’t dismiss people’s concerns like some people do, however. Just like abortion it should be viewed as my body my choice, end of story. I know it’s not an apples to apples comparison at the more granular level but fundamentally it’s the same in my opinion. Education over legislation.
  • 3 1
 @jaame:
I mean, a vaccine that was developed in one and a half years instead of one and a half decades seems like a reasonable reason to me… but I don’t know the details

If people understood the process for financing new products, clinical trials and FDA clearance etc. then they would understand that the timeline was fine as all the gates were open for developing a vaccine.
  • 2 3
@BenPea: In an attempt to make a point, you projected some b.s. reasoning onto a group of people you disagree with? I'm not saying you're not intelligent but that's not how intelligent people think.

Governments suck? Perhaps it's their dishonesty? Maybe their penchant for corruption andhistorical dereliction of mandate?
An pervasive and recurring theme in recorded history, it is that of the powerful doing everything they can do break the majority of people. Even when one group is usurped, it has never taken long for corruption to seep into the next group making the rules. It's too prevalent to deny.

Medical science? That's a concept, not an animate being i.e. it's a concept reliant on people to exist. Becoming a medical researcher doesn't work as a panacea for negative personality traits.

Who funds "Medical Science?" Are there any connections between policy makers and the people funded?
It's not even a contrived thought process, rather just a few basic questions of who's getting money from whom. Who's making money as a result? Do they have a history of lying or censoring anyone who disagrees?

That your sacred msm was not all over the Gates Ghebreyesus connection from the outset was basically a tacit admission that "they" will decide what you need to know. That any doctor, or researcher, no matter how credible is either ignored or maligned by the media if they publicly share their reasoning for disagreeing the government policy is another red flag.

Many people simply refuse to honestly question if they are being lied to and manipulated despite the limitless precedents for it. They're no different than the Germans of the 30's- better just to go along with it and pretend whatever they're told to do is for the better.
  • 2 2
@sonuvagun: There we have it people, Godwin's Law in action.
  • 3 0
@browner: just surprised it took this long. Kinda wish it had happened sooner.
  • 2 0
@sonuvagun: listen, there is a degree of validity in your points about the machinations of our leaders. But you can't deploy them equally for every event you deem suspect. The pandemic may have been exploited by a wide variety of parties, but that's just opportunism rather than proof of a global conspiracy (how many nations and individuals sworn to secrecy would that need to involve btw? Would it really be worth the effort? How ma'y different approaches have different govts taken? It's a heterogeneous mess).
Bottom line is either you truly believe that covid is BS, governments are f*cking with us and hospital workers are in on it, which is just insane, or you want no protection measures and no vaccines because you think humanity is ripe for a cull and you think you will come out smelling of roses because you exercise, eat healthily and take vitamin D. Which is it?

p.s. "you projected some b.s. reasoning onto a group of people you disagree with" nope, all manner of even worse BS is rife everywhere in the tinfoil hat community, I think I'm actually overestimating them
  • 1 1
@BenPea: How did you come to your conclusion I "deploy them equally for every event deem suspect?"
Why can I not think Covid-19 exists, government bodies and private firms are exploiting it and manipulating the public, and health care workers are just doing their jobs? Why are you saying I have to believe they're in on it?

Your logic doesn't hold.
The first problem is you can't logically project some nonsensical thinking on a group of people and then declare them crazy because of the projections you've invented.
The second and more fundamental problem is you can't logically assign people to some arbitrary collective based on the sole feature that you disagree with them. How many doctors and researchers would be in that group, and you want to define them as conspiratorial because they disagree with you? It's borderline narcissistic, but in your case I think it's just a case of not challenging your own reasoning.

  • 1 0
@sonuvagun: You're a slippery one and I ain't into eel fishing. Heil covid. Auf wiedersehen.
  • 3 1
@betsie: Yeah that's what I suspected - that's what I meant by cut and paste. Take an existing vaccine and tweak it with highly predictable results.

As I see it there will be some people with a negative reaction to it, some will die, most won't. The same could be said for pretty much anything to a degree. Some people would die if they ate nuts or shellfish, for example. I get terrible asthma from cat hairs but I'm not saying cats are a government conspiracy to end asthmatics.

The main things I don't like about the whole situation are the constantly moving goal posts (referenced in the two weeks to flatten the curve comment above) - we have lost a lot of freedom without being consulted in the past 18 months. In my opinion, people who want to carry on their own business should be left to do so. Protect those who need protecting and let everyone else take their chances seems like a better approach. A few more people would die but truthfully it does not matter to me if millions of people I've never met die. I don't want anyone I know to, and I would do everything I could to protect my parents. I'm not down with the idea that 70 million people in the UK alone have to give up their lives for an indeterminate amount of time to protect 250 thousand others. I've enjoyed having an excuse not to go shopping with my wife but it sucks a bag of dicks if you're a teenager or young adult.
That and the vaccine mandate I heard about in Canada. It's a kind of assault, insisting you let someone you don't know penetrate you and push some fluid in whether you like it or not. It's just wrong. If you're vulnerable, stay the f*ck home yo!
Also there was a highly plausible explanation presented about the lab leaking the virus, which the media totally pissed on and ridiculed not because it was ridiculous but because Trump (and probably most people who can join dots) favoured it. We must discredit Trump at all costs! Politics and the media got in the way and made a f*cking big mess. I wish they would just say "Carry on!" and let us get on with our lives now. It's been long enough.
  • 1 1
@sonuvagun: absolute dumpster fire of a thread. Lol. The fact that your justifying literally nothing with so much fluff is concerning. Copy and paste everything in this thread. Save it. And in ten years read it back.
  • 2 0
@jaame: the "flatten the curve" made sense. It's just demand and capacity.
Unfortunately we did do as well as we can in behaving and following the rules and guidelines. Too many special people out there having parties, trail building, riding all the time, everywhere. An outbreak up here came from one of those parties, someone took it into school and 4 of my 5 kids ended up with Covid, including my 3 year old daughter! My eldest (17) got longer effects from her Covid and is nearly better now some months on.

Like with most things, the minority can ruin it for the majority though. The attitude of not caring what happens to other people, that lack of empathy, has been all too apparent in the last 18 months in certain parts of society.

You say we lost a lot of freedom... Compared to countries that really locked down (look at Vietnam just now, some workers are at work, but living there and can't leave, just to produce things, but those items are Kanbanned until the transport infrastructure is running again), we have never really locked down in the UK. Our lockdown was a joke, we didn't lose our freedom, we just had to stay in for a while. Compare our lockdown to China's! If you know what China did, they really locked down.

We do love to dramatize over here, that is something we are really good at.
Maybe we should look elsewhere and think ourselves lucky sometimes.
  • 2 3
I think a lot of these anti-vax/Freedom crusaders never really stood up for OR against anything before this pandemic and are trying to feel like they are rebels by taking a "stand" while all others from differing FB Groups are "sheep". I see the type all around me. Some of the most anti-government people I know, who have fought The Man for decades, are laughing at people who have made this their cause celebre when it's really just another divisive distraction while the rape of the earth by the billionaire class continues. Wake the fvck up. They want us to fight so that we all lose.

BTW there is no Forced Vaccination program in the USA. It is 'mandated' for some workers, but you are free to refuse it as long as you get tested weekly. Is that too hard for you? Yes. Yes it is.
  • 2 1
@betsie: You make some good points. I wasn't against flatteing the curve by the way. I'm just pointing out that people have grievances that the government kept changing policy. I agree it was not too bad in this country. When I say we I am referring to all the English speaking countries of the world. New Zealand pretty much closed borders and remains closed. Did they even ask anyone if that's what they wanted? I doubt it. Mates in Aussie say they feel like they're in a time capsule. At least Trudeau I believe is having a general election (?) to get voter buy-in for his vaccine mandate. I think I read that.

My wife's sister moved to Vietnam in February this year and I've heard daily stories about how factories have got locked up with the workers inside (although it sounds like there is ambiguity around whether or not that is voluntary - in a no work/no pay system people want to work). They're also only allowed out for essential shopping two hours a day and hers were 18:00 - 20:00 when her small kids are awake and cannot be left alone in the house. When her husband gets back frm work early he can go but usually everything is sold out - "I got 1kg of rice, two eggs, a mango and a potato... at least we have enough rice."

I'm interested to know what would have happened if we just had a full lockdown where literally no one was allowed out for two weeks. 100% of people stay at home for two weeks. Would the virus have then just fizzled out?

  • 1 0
The camera operators on this one were utter s&!t Frown Those at the most interesting sections managed to make it unwatchable. Even Rob and co had problems with showing specific lines of some riders.
Also, the sound guy must have been out on a very long brake during the entire show. In sections with loud spectators, chainsaws etc you could barely hear the commentary.
And finally, it's 2021. Is it really necessary to show on live feed the whole proces of a female rider changing her clothes (Myriam)?? WTF was that, seriously. They were showing spectators instead of riders being on course, during their race runs, but they can't do that while a woman is changing clothes? This isn't about showing bodies, it's about a sport, called downhill, FFS.

It's still technical, and you have to take risk on those last turns I prefer this over the end of the Lousa track last year, where it was just pedaling for the last third of the track
  • 9 3
@Cifer: its just to bad that DH races gets decided on gimmicky features. I mean it’s the same for everyone but a sharp flat corner after a high speed entrance in to a drop - doesn’t right. But hey, if the riders are happy then who am I to complain.
  • 14 1
Thought the same but isn't it just a chicane to not over shoot the drop? Maybe not that bad idea...
  • 4 1
@MendelMu: I don't think it gets decided there. If you've done a good run you're gonna be able to take this one correctly, if you've done a bad run you'll come here too fast and that's when you risk to do an error.
Seems to me most of the top 10 knew how to take this chicane pretty fast by jumping from one side to the other.

@Will-narayan: Look at Bruni compared to Loris. The top 5 was super close.

Bruni is always losing a big part of his lead at the bottom...

 1) that's racing, sometimes when you push hard at the top you run out of beans at the bottom. It's a calculated risk.
2) one of his legs is f*cked from a crash last week. Surprising he's racing at all, let alone putting down that run. Don't blame if he's losing some strength at the bottom.
