by Ed Spratt
After last week's racing in Leogang, we are back with the fifth round of the 2023 Enduro World Cup.

In the U21 racing we saw repeat wins from both Emmy Lan and Lisandru Bertini as they remain dominant forces in 2023.

Isabeau Coudurier faced a close battle with fellow French racers Morgane Charre and Mélanie Pugin with a win on the final stage just pushing her ahead to take the race victory. Morgane Charre fell short of the top spot taking 2nd as Mélanie Pugin had a return to form in 3rd place.

The Elite Men's race saw Matthew Walker storm the final two stages to secure the race win in Italy. Alex Rudeau secured another top-three finish as he ended the day's racing 16 seconds back in 2nd. Richie Rude lost 31 seconds to the race winner on stage four costing him the overall win today, Rude still takes 3rd.

Check out the results below.

 There's a race this weekend??

Yes, but you have to Discover that yourself.

Honestly this is really disappointing this year. I was hoping they will manage to cover more of the races but in fact they did the opposite. I'm also confused with the course map. But thumbs up for pinkbike for making it at least a little bit easier to get an overview on what's going on at EDR

@kage17: what them putting an Iframe into the eso live timing that doesn’t scroll and be remotely useful?
  • 12 0
@RHSGuy: I only know about today's race because of pinkbike, that's why...
  • 2 0
 Ohh, they changed it. Bravo

@kage17: I only know because of EdBull Mediahouse. The only reason I came here.

It doesn't help the UCI MTB website doesn't show the _current_ race info on the front page. As soon as the race week(end) starts, the front page starts showing the countdown to the _next_ event, also with a big banner down the page. There's nothing screaming loudly about any racing going on, the latest news links shown aren't really saying anything specific either. If you want to reach the main page for the event going on right now you need to go through the calendar. I mean, surely you could start the countdown to the next event immediately after the current one ends, instead.

The recap shows have been decent, similar to the ones from a few seasons back. The lead up coverage has been poor, and it's fragmented between websites, social media and YouTube. They certainly are not making it easy to follow. We are lucky so many of the riders, like Jack, are taking the time to provide the coverage they do. Some of the best coverage is from the guys fighting for wins and top ten spots.
  • 5 3
@als802: from my recollection coverage this year has been no worse than the last couple of years?
  • 1 0
I’ve been holding off Ponkbike all day waiting for a YouTube recap. More than 24h later there’s none. Didn’t they promise this would be the case?
  • 2 0
@russthedog: I feel like it was a lot more publicized and apparent before. I find myself having to hunt for the official coverage. Maybe it's just me.
  • 1 0
@als802: agree it is terrible, I gave up in enduro a few years ago and now I find the only thing that comes to me is the final results

If it wasn't for MoiMoiTv and Eddie Masters, I wouldn't have even known this was happening this weekend. Such a shame. Matt Walker looking good, hope he can get a podium.

As Discovery won't let us have a fantasy league can we play at what stage the live feed stops working? Stage 3 for the elite women and stage two for the men?
  • 3 0
Sad hay! I’m betting for the live feed to cut in an out again with it starting to work sometime through stage 2…
  • 5 0
I feel like a bit of negative ninny now - sat in work with a cheeky browser window open checking the feed, it all seems to be working - well done Pinkbike Smile - I'd love to see Matt Walker rip the next few stages onto the podium!
  • 9 0
I'm very disappointed by the cancelled fantasy league too. It was fun and interesting put put a team together and do things like look for undervalued racers who would get good results. Such a bummer!
  • 7 0
@liquidfoxbat: Your wish came true! What a day for Matt Walker!

 Nice work Wax!
Must have been that Leogang Enduro/DH double that got him going.

Making up for Mister Ed being down and out.
  • 9 0
Any half-decent Product Manager could build a more intuitive timing platform (not talking about the feed by pinkbike)... Overall times are completely worthless throughout the race, which completely defeats the purpose of a live timing. Bad design, bad UX, bad prioritization of features.
  • 3 0
Yes but they would have to actually pay any half decent PM with, you know, money. Which is something they’re clearly not willing to do.
  • 13 0
 Great day for pivot !

So stoked for Mitt Wawka. Been a long time coming.

 Waxxxx on #1!!!

Excited to see him win, he is always up there.

Good weekend for team Pivot with BK also taking the win in DH at crankworks Innsbruck.
  • 4 0
not sure why you're getting downvoted?????
  • 1 0
@HeatedRotor: Probably because he spoiled the DH results... I was going to watch on replay, but now that I know who won, it won't be as fun anymore.

45th at Leogang as well, just imagine if he actually practised/rode his bike a bit.

 Yeaaah Waxxx

It was sooo cool to see the riders practice this Friday. Shame I had to go home and could not see the actual race. The trails are really awesome there, even most of the lines in the bikepark are narrow and filled with rocks and roots. The videos don't do any justice to how gnarly soem of these lines are, especially because these guys and gals ride so amazingly fast.
  • 7 0
 Waxer wins!
  • 2 0
Am sure i won't be the 1st to ask, and its as annoying to find on the official EWS website, but can you also state where that leaves everyone in the overall standings, not jut publish the race results. thanks in anticipation.
  • 3 0
Would love to see Chloe Taylor on a factory team Stoked to see Ella in action and pulling of that result Happy to see ALN back in top 10 and maybe up for a podium spot again soon!
  • 1 0
Race coverage sucks, where you guys finding any highlights or winners interviews etc, besides moimoi and edbull very little besides practice videos. Enduro has the potential to be massive but needs a decent broadcast and promotion company that at least shares highlights and interviews.
  • 4 0
Would y’all please just give us a link the f*cking time sheet good lord

Yes. came here for the results. All we can do is top 5?

What happened to the guy from nz who was riding on his enduro bike to the races Last year. Is he still there?
  • 5 1
Yes. Matthew Fairbrother is his name. Finished 57th in the U21 category. All that bikepacking seems to be affecting his racing skills because from the individual stage scores it doesn't seem like it was a crash or mechanical..
  • 1 0
@ak-77: he crashed on the last stage
  • 3 2
@Arlomarlo: Ah, yes, I see. I only looked at the rankings of the individual stages, I now see he lost about 5 minutes in the last stage. Nevertheless, he wasn't exactly heading for the top 10 even without that crash.

What happened to Rude on stage 4?
  • 3 0
 Flat
  • 3 0
@schwaaa31: you would think that as frequently as this seems to occur with these guys (I seem to recall Jesse getting a flat earlier this season that killed his race and Rude would have been first if he had a more competitive time on stage 4 today) that they would run thicker casings and/or the tire companies would make some special extra beefy casings for them?…
  • 2 0
@Tsmith1234: No tire in the world is richie rude proof…. they use DH casing and DH inserts
  • 1 0
@bikingbayarea: if they’re flatting DH tires, then it seems like maxxis could make some thicker casings specifically for them. And definitely not all the enduro guys are using inserts front and rear. Like Jack Moir doesn’t and he has had some races ruined from flats. My comment was just in general, it seems like a lot of the riders including the top guys run tire setups that are inadequate for their speed/ability. *shrug*
  • 1 0
@Tsmith1234: at a certain point these racers will need solid rubber tires to avoid flatting
  • 1 0
I wonder what happened to Lily that she didn't start stage 3. And then she was able to keep racing? Mechanical? It must be so frustrating when she was racing so well.
  • 1 0
I see a 5 minute penalty. It must have been a late start then. Without it she would have finished first by one minute.

Good to see Ella out there
  • 3 1
Where is the coverage this year? Are they still doing highlights videos?
  • 5 0
Yes, they do the highlights, enduro doesn't have live coverage, your best during the race is trying to follow on IG some of the riders, pinkbike itself with Dan Wolf and couple others. Live timing sucks, is down right now. Then on videos you have MoiMoitTV, EdBullMedia (Eddie Masters when he joins), Jesse does some good stuff too, Kelan Grant, Charles Murray, Innes Graham. Official coverage is bull shit to be honest, they could do so much more with not much investment.
  • 10 2
@elyari: There's some vital information missing from your list.
  • 1 0
@commental: feel free to add up, all details are welcomed
  • 5 0
@elyari: These are some of the most scenic places on earth, a drone or two and an interviewer at the bottom of the stages with a live feed could make a few hours of content, easy. I really don't get it. I got the gcn+ to watch downhill this month, maybe I'll renew it next month but its iffy...
  • 7 3
Apparently PB stopped doing PB Primers for enduro. It's a stedy decline in race coverage, unfortunately.
  • 10 6
@chmurka3rg: Nope we haven't stopped doing primers at all. This week I was at Eurobike and didn't have time to get a primer or predictions article together before the race.
  • 1 3
@chmurka3rg: PB never did any video highlighs, although shame they took down the fantasy league, it was a nice to have
  • 3 1
@jdiggs: totally agree, so much more could be done, even just couple of persons out on the trails with a cell phone and doing live feed, interviews
  • 15 9
@edspratt: says alot about what pink bike thinks about actual riders. To busy covering new products vs actual mountain bikers....
  • 8 0
@edspratt: don’t really care about the latest $9000 boutique suspension
  • 4 1
@d-man: damn, getting shot down for pointing out the admission above. Eurobike coverage trumped enduro coverage.
  • 7 0
@Bmxtar: Apparently. Pink Bike was founded by riders for riders. Now it's a corporate online magazine for advertising.
  • 2 0
@d-man: PB has been going to Eurobike for as long as I can remember.
  • 1 0
@elyari: Where did I say that PB has done highlights?
  • 4 0
@edspratt: Pretty sure no one would be mad at you if you delayed some of the eurobike news to cover the enduro race first...
  • 1 0
@chmurka3rg: I'm reasonably sure it's because trade show articles get more clicks and engagement, therefore it's prioritised. I could be wrong though.
