[Updated with Overall] Final Results from the Val di Sole DH World Cup 2022

Mille Johnset getting things started on another practice run this morning.

The final round of the 2022 downhill World Cup is underway at Val di Sole. In the Junior Racing Gracey Hemstreet wrapped up the overall with another win. Izabela Yankova threatened the top spot but after losing time at the bottom of the course she ends the day in 2nd. Newly crowned World Champion Jenna Hastings piloted the rainbow jersey to third. Jordan Williams backed up his World Champs win with another rapid ride in Val di Sole. Ryan Pinkerton came the closest but was still almost ten seconds off the pace. Remy Meier-Smith wrapped up the top three and what must have been a big mistake in the final split took Jackson Goldstone out of contention for the win. As he took the title at the last round Jackson Goldstone still wins the 2022 overall.

The Elite Women's race was a nail-biting conclusion to the 2022 season as Myriam Nicole put down an incredible run to take the win by just over four seconds. Nina Hoffmann ends her season on a high with second place ahead of Vali Höll in third. Camille Balanche managed what seemed impossible after Mont-Sainte-Anne to take the overall World Cup win.

What a run from Loris Vergier to take a massive win of over three seconds on Andreas Kolb. Dakotah Norton just edged ahead of teammate Aaron Gwin to end the year with a top-three finish. A crash for Amaury Pierron knocked him down to 53rd but he still keeps the overall win.

There are three riders who can take the overall today, will it be Camille Balanche, Myriam Nicole or Vali Höll?

Race Updates:

3:30 am PDT Siel Van Der Velden is the first rider on track as Mikayla Parton has not started today.

3:35 am PDT After the first run of the day Siel Van Der Velden crosses the line with a 4:50.027. We are still a way off the top qualifying time but with plenty more riders to come, this will start dropping quickly.

3:38 am PDT Louise Ferguson finds a sizeable amount of time at the bottom of the course to go fastest by over one and a half seconds.

3:42 am PDT Anna Newkirk now takes the lead as we head into the top ten.

3:43 am PDT With 10 riders left the current top five are:

1st. Anna Newkirk: 4:47.168
2nd. Louise Ferguson: 4:48.457
3rd. Siel Van Der Velden: 4:50.027
4th. Lisa Baumann: 4:50.588
5th. Stacey Fisher: 4:52.872

3:44 am PDT Camille Balanche has an early start and is on the track now. We will have a better idea of the overall when we see how she places.

3:47 am PDT Camille put everything into that run and goes fastest by a huge 14.7 seconds. There are still nine riders left but all Camille has to do is stay inside the top four and she will win the overall no matter what happens.

3:50 am PDT An amazing run from Myriam Nicole smashes past Camille's time and bests the top qualifying time. Every rider coming will have to beat Camille for Myriam to take the title and Vali will have to be third or worse.

3:53 am PDT Nina Hoffmann flies into second place, four seconds behind Myriam Nicole. Camille now sits in 3rd so if one more rider beats her then Vali can take the overall with a win today.

3:59 am PDT With five riders left the current top five are:

1st. Myriam Nicole: 4:21.804
2nd. Nina Hoffmann: 4:25.873
3rd. Camille Balanche: 4:32.441
4th. Mélanie Chappaz: 4:43.270
5th. Anna Newkirk: 4:47.168

4:04 am PDT The overall title is all to play for as Jess Blewitt pushes Camille Balanche into fourth place! Vali Höll can take it all if she wins.

4:06 am PDT Eleonora Farina crashes out, she is up quickly and back on her run.

4:11 am PDT It looks like Monika Hrastnik won't be pushing Camille Balanche into fifth meaning Vali Höll will need the win today.

4:12 am PDT Vali Höll is now on course and she will need to win to take the overall. Myriam has set a blistering run so this is going to be a tough challenge for the newly crowned World Champ.

4:14 am PDT It's not looking good at the second split as Vali is almost three seconds back.

4:16 am PDT Vali Höll takes third place but it is not enough as Camille Balanche takes the overall.

Elite Men

After the incredible Elite Women's race we now have the Elite Men to close out the 2022 World Cup season. Amaury Pierron has already won the overall so there is nothing to play for apart from taking the final win of the season.

Inside the Tape:

Before the Elite Men's racing check the lines Ben Cathro has found out on the course.

Top Five from Qualifying:

1st. Andreas Kolb: 3:41.572
2nd. Loris Vergier: 3:43.532
3rd. Dakotah Norton: 3:46.779
4th. Benoit Coulanges: 3:47.528
5th. Aaron Gwin: 3:48.151

Race Updates:

5:07 am PDT With 30 riders left the current top five are:

1st. Matteo Iniguez: 3:51.937
2nd. Dean Lucas: 3:52.797
3rd. Antoine Rogge: 3:53.466
4th. Matthew Walker: 3:54.695
5th. Connor Finnis: 3:55.839

5:12 am PDT The track is looking lethal with rain showers making the exposed parts of the track very slippery.

5:17 am PDT Despite the hard conditions Jacob Dickson manages to pull into the top five, just over three seconds back.

5:25 am PDT Luca Shaw pulls back over two seconds at the bottom of the course to go into fourth place so far.

5:27 am PDT Troy Brosnan is another rider finding extra time at the bottom of the course. It looks like the exposed top sections are slower riders down.

5:29 am PDT Luke Meier-Smith has a big crash but looks to be uninjured as he starts making his way down the course.

5:32 am PDT With 20 riders left the current top five are:

1st. Matteo Iniguez: 3:51.937
2nd. Dean Lucas: 3:52.797
3rd. Antoine Rogge: 3:53.466
4th. Troy Brosnan: 3:54.188
5th. Luca Shaw: 3:54.578

5:34 am PDT It's great to see Reece Wilson back at the races and he crosses the line in 31st place.

5:43 am PDT A massive run from Bernard Kerr! The tricky conditions clearly didn't affect Bernard as he goes fastest by over seven seconds.

5:46 am PDT Lucas Cruz takes 2nd so far, 6.4 seconds back.

5:49 am PDT Disaster for Henry Kerr as he slides out in one of the final turns.

5:53 am PDT Oliver Zwar can't quite match the speed of Bernard Kerr and moves in 2nd.

5:55 am PDT Around six seconds back and into third for Dylan Levesque.

5:58 am PDT Remi Thirion blasts into 2nd place but the gap is still over five seconds.

6:00 am PDT A massive crash for Amaury Pierron! Luckily he has the overall title wrapped up and looks to be uninjured.

6:01 am PDT With 10 riders left the current top five are:

1st. Bernard Kerr: 3:44.806
2nd. Rémi Thirion: 3:50.227
3rd. Oliver Zwar: 3:50.513
4th. Dylan Levesque: 3:50.795
5th. Lucas Cruz: 3:51.300

6:07 am PDT David Trummer looked to be on a great run but a rear flat pushes him back to 25th.

6:10 am PDT After attacking at the top of the course Laurie Greenland seems to be taking it easier for the rest of his run.

6:14 am PDT Charlie Hatton goes just 2.2 seconds back and into 2nd place. Bernard Kerr's time is looking better and better but we still have some big names left.

6:17 am PDT Newly Crowned World Champ Loic Bruni goes into third after losing time from the first split onwards.

6:21 am PDT A flat tire for Thibaut Daprela pushes him back to sixth.

6:22 am PDT With 5 riders left the current top five are:

1st. Bernard Kerr: 3:44.806
2nd. Charlie Hatton: 3:47.022
3rd. Loic Bruni: 3:48.510
4th. Rémi Thirion: 3:50.227
5th. Oliver Zwar: 3:50.513

6:25 am PDT Aaron Gwin pulls ahead of Bernard Kerr by just 0.541 seconds.

6:29 am PDT Benoit Coulanges flies into third place, 0.82 off the pace.

6:32 am PDT Dakotah Norton denies teammate Aaron Gwin the win as he goes fastest by 1.3 seconds with two riders remaining.

6:36 am PDT What a run! Loris Vergier spoils the party for the Intense team as he destroys the previous top times with a gap of over three seconds.

6:41 am PDT Andreas Kolb can't match Loris but still ends the day in 2nd. This means Loris Vergier wins the final round by over three seconds!

@tiagomano: I believe the first time he said it was La Bresse, 2018. Amaury Pierron slid out in the muddy grass near the bottom. One of Rob Warner's best lines for sure!

I watched the womens world champs with commentry from Andrew Neethling and some other guy, it was so absolutely terrible I was going to skip the mens until some legend on Pinkbike posted the link to the Uci website streaming the Redbull broadcast for the mens... This really highlighted to me just how good Rob Warner is, honestly if Redbull start their own championship with Rob commenting, I will follow that instead... f@ck the Uci!!!

Please can you get Rob Warner to make a preprogrammed sound bite sample amp. On IOS for a few bucks.
So I can play
“ LOOK AT THE TIME”
Over the top of well anything

Maybe 15 sound bites per screen. At least 2 screens including his greatest hits :

“ LOOK AT THE TIME”

"Uglier than ET with skin cancer"

"he's letting it all hang out like a fat bird in a bikini"

"He's gonna need a lawyer for that case!"

“He's on the rampage like a dog with two dicks!”

"Steve Peat has done more for Downhill Mountain Biking than Osama Bin Laden has done for terrorism"

And anything about Danny Harts B@!!S

Dear Redbull TV and Mr. Warner, thank you for such an amazing presentation of the DH cycling for these years. Your presentations have made an exciting sport enhanced with even more emotion for this viewer. While many of us, I included, have at times been critical of aspects of your presentations, I will admit, there hasn't been any other sport presentation by other networks that have been as raw and true to the sport as yours. Just this morning when it started raining at it was noticed that in the upper portion of the tracts people were loosing time. I noticed that you moved one of your cameras up to the upper rooty section and started to record the events there. Allowing Mr. Warner to be his true self and commentate in a language that we relate and engages us. It is details like these that I can tell you have not gone unnoticed by some of us and will be missed. So thank you for making me a bigger fan of DH and creating content that sets the standard of what this sport can be for us fans.

Yeah huge thanks to everyone who has been involved in the live events from the downhill world cup. Only sports event I watch actually. Have given me so much joy! If discovery or whoever takes over next year does it poorly please come back. You guys rock. Cheers

Yes, very anticlimactic. My sons BMX trophies are more impressive. Just another thing the UCI sucks at.

  • 2 0
@bernat: glad to hear that as I was thinking the same thing, especially having been at Snowshoe the two years the season ended there and seeing how the podium was handled in the Village area. Learned from Troy Bronson how you really open a bottle of champagne

@scott-townes: you missed Finn nearly taking Amaury's face off with a Champagne cork.

@bernat: then better to be of chocolate and eat ot to dhow it's provisional or something like this cause its pretty lame... Even Armaury had to improve it's own trophy with that golden helmet...  Hopefully next year they have Bear Grylls and Mike Rowe.

As much as I love that side of Warner, I also love the fact he's up there watching during practice and the insight he gives from that, plus his relationship with all the riders.
Will the commentators even be at the venues next year? More likely in a studio nowhere near the race.

I was happy Norton didn’t win after his weirdly aggressive celebration after his run. I almost expected him to start chanting USA, USA.

Fair play to Gwin though. At 34 and after so long to do a run like that is mentally impressive.

@jclnv: So you were hoping he didn’t win because he was super happy with his race run and to be in first at that moment? That’s pretty shitty. I was stoked for him and Gwin. And what would be wrong if he did chant USA? There is nothing wrong with being proud to represent your country, no matter where you are from.

Wow. Dude really hates his some Dak. It’s been a hugely frustrating season for him. Also consider that he didn’t even have a ride at the end of last season after YT dissolved their team. So yeah: dude was pumped but NOTHING about that celebration was any more over the top than anyone else’s. Good grief.
  • 4 0
@jclnv: Pierron easily has some of the most emotional wins when he crosses the line. There is nothing wrong with that, it's well deserved and he is a great sport, congratulating those who beat him and simply showing honest, raw emotions without any kind of ill will against his competitors. Dak has spent years struggling to put down his incredible pace in a race run cleanly, of course he is stoked to get on the hot seat. Why is this any different?
  • 1 4
@IsaacWislon82: It's the aggressive mannerism displayed. Maybe Pierron acts the same but I haven't seen it.
  • 35 0
Cool to see Myriam put it together on the last run of the season.
  • 13 1
shitty that Greg could not start to see if he had tamed the black snake to make it 2 back to back.. no one here talks or know about his crash in practice ????????????????????? what happened ?
  • 1 0
@Lagr1980: can't find much about this.
  • 5 0
@Lagr1980: The only thing I've seen was on Syndicate Instagram 8 hours ago saying he "had a nasty crash" and "things are looking positive", with a promise to update on the issue later. Here's to hoping it's nothing major.
  • 2 0
@Lagr1980: Greg had a bad crash in practice before the race run and hit his head, apparently taken to hospital immediately. I had heard he is ok, but that is second hand info.
  • 1 0
 @g123: broke 3 vertebras

@stiksandstones: yea saw the vid today, gnarly. Healing vibes to GM.

Did Warner just hint, that Red Bull TV has some big plans for downhill next year? Who else is excited?
  • 14 0
I think he did. I guess we already know we have Rampage, Hardline and Crankworx(?). I'm hoping they come with some more.

What would be nice is if they give coverage to some other events, IXS, BDS, other countries' series etc.
  • 29 0
Now that the replay is up, here is exactly what Rob said at the end of the post race show:
"We've lost the world cup rights, but Red Bull will be back next year, i promise you very much so. Sometimes, we're even better, when we have to start from scratch."

This doesn't seem like they will simply air the IXS or any other existing series, but something brand new. It is notable, that he said this right after talking about Red Bull Hardline...
  • 10 0
@SvenPixa: They could do an uphill world cup ^^
  • 2 0
@Will-narayan: that would be fighting an uphill battle!
  • 1 0
@korev: they also do the urban dh races and mega avalanche. They have plenty of content to put more time in...
  • 30 0
God damn Cami, what a rider!
  • 22 0
Yes congrats to her, and a huge BRAVO to Nina Hoffmann who did an excellent season!!
  • 7 0
She Is overlooked for sure, how she has come back from a collarbone so quick is mind boggling - my rider of the rider by a long shot
  • 29 0
Not that i would wish against anyone but i really wanted Cami to get the overall. well done Gal
  • 26 0
Warner talking about red bull starting from scratch next at the end of the broadcast. Looks like we might be getting that second dh series everyone's been hoping for.
  • 6 0
Dueling race series. Love it. Hopefully the riders might be able to leverage this situation for their own bottom line.
  • 5 0
yeah caught that too. I think it's gonna be fire. especially with a 9 month pause till the next worldcup, there is enough room for a new series to emerge before
  • 2 0
Man I sure do hope so. I would happily pay redbull a small fee for their own series too. Discovery, not a chance.
  • 1 0
@bashhard: seems like a big old chunk of time of that calendar to run even a little.mini DH series from March to June. Or start in Feb in the southern hemisphere. Fingers crossed!
  • 24 0
Privateer Antoine Rogge sitting in 3rd after half the riders have made their run. Pretty great year for him, coming into today 33rd in points.
  • 21 0
A 16th place finish today took Antoine up to 28th place in the final standings. . Kind of amazing, considering he started the season on a 2 year old bike and when that got stolen Loic Bruni gave him one of his old bikes to race on.
  • 1 0
He won the best scrub too on the last jump - that was INSANE!! Super sideways, flat, and chucking a few cranks in!!
  • 25 0
Henry Kerr's time lookin like it would have been amazing at this point.
  • 5 0
unlocked confidence after worlds run... gotta keep it consistent for next year
  • 23 0
Thanks for the many years of excitement, Rob. Gonna blast the TV, sit back and enjoy your commentary one more time.
  • 23 1
I'm hoping for Rob Warner's brother Rich to show up in the men's race coverage so we can have Warner Bros
  • 3 0
 Underrated comment!
  • 21 0
What a race and season for Andreas Kolb, now 4th in the overall. Huge respect!
  • 4 0
Amazing rider and seems like a super nice guy.
  • 17 0
aaaah Loris. so amazing run. always a french to take the lead ;-) great season for french rider. amazing run also by Aaron and Dakota. Bernard was on fire and Andreas and Benoit are wild also. so only Hardline now and after hibernation
  • 6 0
Well said mate... and I'd actually like to see more of our french riders at the Hardline this year, hopefully.
  • 20 4
BK would have been on for a wun had he come down a bit later. His 1st /2nd split was being beaten as it dried up Nd those last 5 or so all smashed his 1st split. From there on down though was real even. Shame not to have qualied better. Such a class fella.
  • 3 1
He crashed in quali and still ended up 20th...
  • 16 0
I remember a decade ago Gwin literally DESTROYED the competition at this track. All this time later the kids who grew up riding Gwin style and now the students eventually defeated the master. Thankfully the master has a few good runs left.
  • 17 0
Jackson crashed? Good job Jordan, that was a fast run
  • 10 0
 Yes, after split 4
  • 2 0
Seems like he had a crash after Split 4....
  • 18 1
Loris is such an amazing rider to watch.
  • 8 1
When he’s on I think he’s about the best ever. Just absurdly smooth and precise.
  • 6 0
In spite of the heroic seasons from Amaury and Loic, I aways felt watching Loic he is most precise. When he's on he makes it look so effortless, total video game mode!
  • 14 0
Am the only one hoping for some classic Rob Warner comments this afternoon?
  • 20 0
"He hit the deck like an old woman on a cruise ship"

Claudio: "You said that already two years ago" Big Grin
  • 14 0
I'm going to miss this... June ffs...
  • 3 0
For real. Such a long wait. Loved how it started in March this year, that needs to be a standard.
  • 13 0
Jordan wins in the Jersey, really great, excited for next year in Elite.
  • 13 0
Dean really getting his money's worth from that podium seat, lmao
  • 1 1

  • 14 1
 Henry Kerr ladies and gentlemen
  • 12 0
Just finished watching the live feed, and I have to say, gonna miss listening to Rob.
  • 9 0
Ditto. The final montage of highlight moments from the last 10 years was awesome. Felt it ended quite randomly though - would have been nice to see a Warner send off...
  • 8 0
@bentterz: I think there was a strong hint that this wasn't the end as far as Redbull is concerned.

I liked that there was no bitterness
  • 9 0
Warner is the best commentator for this sport, has grown into the job and Discovery is BLOWING IT by not getting him on board. I’ve heard Euro. Sport (EWS Guy)and S African(Needles) announcers and it isn’t any good..Eurosport goes to commercial while a rider is on a run, we will miss Red Bull big time. I’ve been with this sport for 35 years and it’s taking a massive step backwards, as far as the broadcast is concerned.
  • 26 14
Go Camille go. The only woman who deserves the overall.
  • 21 3
Dunno why you're getting downvotes lol. You're right. I'd be gutted if a little error in practice denied her such a well deserved overall. It wasn't even a race run mistake and what are the chances of a tiny practice slip resulting in broken bones and zero points. That was pure bad luck. She was beyond any doubt the best this season and would have comfortably secured the overall early if it wasn't for that crash. Tough as nails to come back and fight too, and it paid off.
  • 14 0
Her performance this year was truly remarkable. Coming into today she was averaging 223 points per race. Myriam averaged 165 points per race before today, and Vali averaged 174.
  • 12 0
Jordan Williams faster than elite men
  • 17 1
Well, he has the name of 2 F1 teams
  • 1 0
@suspended-flesh: One thing we've learned today is F1 cars can be beaten by the combination of an airplane and a motorbike.
  • 8 0
Insane runs from everyone on the podium. Loris, holy shit, where did he find those seconds. Madman. Awesome to see Americans in top form again. BK will be gutted but he's on fire anyway. Can see him winning hardline again next week for sure. Great season ender and nice touch with all the commentators looking back over the last 10 years together.
  • 11 1
I know it’s racing but f*ck it sucks when riders are disadvantaged by the weather.
  • 13 2
“An absolute whopper from BK!” A tame one but still pretty good.
  • 11 0
I love everything about this men’s elite podium
  • 9 2
Incredible run by loris, but damn, anyone else in the top 5 would have been a way more fun story to end the win. Either first time wins for kolb, Dak, or Bernie, or seeing going fight his way back to the top. French crushing dreams once again. Impressive stuff. Hope more people stay healthy for the full year next year. So many guys capable of winning rn.
  • 3 0
So damn true. Excited for Loris and a hell of a run. But had a bit of a sigh when Dakota and Gwin were out. Really would have loved to see either win.
  • 10 0
So happy for Camille! So well deserved!
  • 10 0
Thanks Rob Warner for the many years of quotes.
  • 2 0
'He's all over the place like Russian radiation' is my favourite.
  • 8 1
Jordan dit It again. Jackson true, crashed un last split, but Jordan was still hald a second up before Jackson crash!! What a great riders
  • 7 0
To my read Jackson G. up on first 3 splits, then 0.26 back at last split before final. Maybe there are other splits you have access to beyond the above.

Agree great rivalry.

Nothing to lose for either rider with Jackson G. having already won the overall back in SnowShoe.

Jackson may have the most consistent speed, but seems like both riders flat out the last three races. In that "nothing to lose", "if not first you are last" context post-snowshoe Jordan took 2/3. But if there was one more race of the season it might be tied up so who knows.

Pretty incredible how similarly matched and on the edge both of them are.

Bottom line is both wicked fast, and will be interesting to see how they approach the off season and perform next year.

Keep an eye out for both at World Champs next year!
  • 8 0
Oh man, they could make a whole Sunday Saves segment using just this race footage.

  • 5 0
Wish there was another couple of races as a lot of riders were finding their form Gwin especially. Hopefully carry it on to next year.
  • 7 0
ROB WARNER.....ABSOLUTE LEGEND AND ONE OF A KIND
  • 5 0
Dakota and Gwin both neck and neck is awesome to see. That bike is looking super stable. Congrats to a good season for both, especially Dakota.
  • 1 0
This, scrolling the comments looking for it, but no one has ventured that a boat of aluminum might just be a little more damp and suited to the rough track. Would they both have gone as good on carbon? Not trying to take away from their result just wondering (I like heavy aluminum frames myself)

 Article text:

"3rd. Vali Höll: 4:28.039
4th. Jess Blewitt: 4:28.039"

(A tie to the thousandth of a second which would be remarkable and should be indicated by a tie for 3rd place)

Article image:

"HÖLL Valentina [...] 4:28.039
BLEWITT Jess [...] 4:28.643"

I wasted too much time piecing this together.

PSA, if you didn't watch to the very end of the men's downhill broadcast, do it now to see a touching montage of all the greatest moments in the last 10 years, all with Rob's commentary.

Rooting for Camille to take the overall, but would really love to see Eleonora take a win there. Rough terrain suits her well.
  • 1 0
Obviously excited that Camille took the overall and a bit disappointed Eleonora didn't finish that high. But look at her sector times (the difference between her split times) in the later sections. Right up there with the top three finishers. Hopefully we'll get to see another in depth analysis here on Pinkbike with beautiful curves and graphs. Personally I love that kind of data. To see which rider does well on what type of terrain and in which stage of the race.
  • 6 1
Looks like Jess Blewitt for Cami

 @donimo: Thanks mate.

Thanks very much for a great season. Thanks to PB, and Redbull. We're going to miss the heck out of Rob in the box. Pumped for Gwinny the Poo and Dak Attack for the 2023 season. Boys are on a heater!
  • 1 0
I'm a little confused and maybe somebody can clear this up for me. Was it not announced more than once that Camille Balanche needed to come in top four in order to take the overall World Cup title? She then placed 5th in the race but still managed to secure the overall. Am I missing something or did the announcers make a mistake at the beginning?
  • 3 0

anyone else really bothered by the camera at the slippery root section?! seems almost like they are trying to make it difficult to watch?
  • 8 0
They can’t win. If they didn’t have a camera there, people would be bitching about missing the section that made/broke runs.
  • 7 0
@o-dubhshlaine: I like the presence of the camera. Just whoever is wielding it seems to be having a bit of fun w angles and zoom haha

In Men's elite who will we see retiring? With Jackson and Williams moving up to elites those older guys trying to move back up in the rankings the door is closing fast. Was this Minnaar's last year? I don't see him being interested in fighting to stay in the top 20. I think he is disappointed with this season. The Bulldog, Blenki, maybe Hart and a number of others I would not be surprised if they hang it up.
  • 8 0
If Danny decides to quit racing in the coming year I think it would be mainly because he doesn't want to be apart from his family so much, not because he's no longer competitive. He was 4th in points after 6 races.
  • 3 0
Hart has extended into next year with Cube. I’ve no idea who mentioned it but it was mentioned in one of the videos in the build up to today’s race.
  • 1 1
@Bibico: I only mentioned Minnaar in reference to point standings. There is all kinds of reasons for someone to choose to move on. Did'nt, we see the Bulldog doing a E-Bike EWS?

  • 1 0
@jahmann: I’ve no idea. He seemed to be on a flier for the first couple of sections then looked like he reined it right back in. I thought it was his chain because he didn’t put any pedal strokes in where he might have. It was only at the very bottom that he pedalled again. Maybe he got a whack to the foot.?
