Smith's New Mainline Full Face Helmet is Coming Soon

Smith's first full face helmet popped up on the internet over the weekend, with the Rocky Mountain Enduro team sharing photos of the helmet on Instagram.

Smith Optics have yet to make their way into the full face market despite offering a wide range of other helmet styles, but this is about to change. Smith haven't officially announced the helmet, but along with the post from the Jesse Melamed, Andréane Lanthier Nadeau and Remi Gauvin we have also seen a product page for the Mainline helmet on REI and a few other online retailers which says that the DH-certified helmet will feature full Koroyd coverage and MIPS.

The helmet will use a system Smith has called AirEvac, which will act as a helmet ventilation system designed to allow both goggles and helmet to function as one by venting warm air away from the goggles and head. The product listing also mentions that the helmet will use Hybrid X-Static/XT2 pads for improved anti-bacterial performance and it will be secured by a D-ring chin strap fastener.

Based on the current online product listings that we have been able to find the Mainline helmet seems to be priced at $300, £275 and €272, although this may not be official pricing for the helmet from Smith.

Although there has been no announcement from Smith it sounds like it should be available very soon, with Andréane Lanthier Nadeau commenting on her Instagram post that it will be "available in select retailers now and online Smith Optics early August!"

 Already available, I've found 3 places saying its up for sale (1 is pre order) and the UK distributor has said its in stores now. Very odd that its such an under the radar release but I imagine its going to be boss. Can't wait to get my hands on one ????

 I chatted directly with Smith and they said it wont be available until July/August. Maybe they have stock out to big distributors already? But its not even on their site so i'd be surprised if some shop has it....

 Hope the venting/airflow works,I seemed to sweat extra with my old koroyd forefront. More big companies in the helmet game seems like a win either way, especially ones with solid customer service!

 Looks nice, but also about 95% the same as a Proframe.

 My kid rides with a proframe. Its a nice light helmet but it also kind of randomly broke on the chinbar, not in a crash. Other people have run into the same thing (its right in the lower front). The foam is pretty typical too. I'd be stoked if Smith could make a similarly nice helmet thats a bit more durable and has more protective Koroyd stuff (is it better?). Fox does have the looks dialed tho...the kids black dust camo is siiiiick.

Downside to the Smith is that its the D ring strap...no way that works for a kid, would be annoying for me. Maybe deal breaker...I hate faffing with D rings on moto helmet.

Edit- I didn't realize the proframe has dual density foam. I like that.

 @Svinyard: I actually like the D rings. They take a bit longer to do up but they stay adjusted and are easier to adjust on the fly.

 @jeremiahwas: I don't have experience with D-rings but I have had fidlocks come loose on me.

 @jeremiahwas: I'm in the same boat. D-ring is a feature I look for, especially for DH. The time it takes to do up is irrelevant to me. Glad Smith has it on this. Helmet looks great, may try in the future.

 @Svinyard: Yep, have seen online a bunch of proframes breaking where the chinbar piece joins the shell. Big part of the reason I went with a Kali Invader... one piece, lightest and most breathable full-face with a chinbar that passes the DH test. The helmet does not get the full DH cert as it's not meant for the that (like the proframe), but I use it on every ride as it's meant to be a trail/enduro helmet that provides more protection without being a pain to wear.

 @Svinyard: I broke 2 proframe helmets on chinguard area as well. Replaced 1 under warranty and didn't bother with 2nd as didn't trust it. Crashed neither

 @nickgarrison: yeah, I hear you! I have a Super DH, but I’m too afraid to replace it with a buckle. That being said, it is really fun to show off!

 D-ring is probably the most secure/trustworthy, but i only use my full-face (push-click type buckle) at the park and it means i'm constantly taking my helmet on and off everytime i get in the uplift van. I suspect D-ring would become quite tiresome after a while, especially with gloves on.

I will definitely take fidlock (have it on my snowboard lid) over a regular push-click (does anyone know what they're called?) buckle. Aside from the convenience, it eliminates the most dreaded injury of all:

Throat or under-the-chin skin caught in the clasp as you click it shut.

There's people riding Rampage that are 3/4 metal plate bone structure that would wince at the sight of that.

 Valid point. I don’t ride much park. More rocky enduro type of stuff. Which is why I opted for the ixs trigger.

 I've got a fresh prescription lens and am NOT seeing what all these homers are seeing. I'll take a TLD any day over that thing.
