I've only been watching the XC racing for a couple of years so my knowledge is limited but I really don't understand why Pauline Ferrand Prevot would stop her season already, she's sitting in 3rd on the standings. I know she's a champion and a winner and maybe finishing outside the top 5 is super frustrating for her.

Is it just a cycling thing where pro athletes can pick and choose when they race? or is their contract a bit more flexible compared to other sports?

Super frustrating to see more racers quitting the season and not racing Snowshoe. Yes, I am going to Snowshoe so I am more invested, but I really have a hard time understanding these healthy quits. What do their sponsors think? What about their teams? I get it if you are hurt, but to quit the season because "I can't win" or "It's too hard" is just lame and not something that was instilled into me or that I instilled in my 26yr old daughter. It's far too easy today for people to quit and the fact the some think it's "brave" is just the icing on the pussification cake. I bet the sponsors and teams will remember these healthy quits when the athlete's contract is up....

@tealdub: Come on brother, nope. The riders I'm talking about have nothing to do with covid. They have pulled out for other reasons, none of which are covid or injury.

If you know you're form isn't there and you are tired, i see no point in traveling to the other side of the globe to get even more exhausted in a race

@laupe: It's why they get that large electronic deposit in their bank account each month. It's what they signed up for. Imagine if at the end of a season NFL players of losing teams said, "You know coach, it's been a long season and I just can't make the last game because I'm tired".... That dude would be looking for a new line of work the following season. Injured or sick? Absolutely. But just being tired?? Sorry, that just isn't the way professional athletes are supposed to act and at least 2 of the top athletes have already said something about it on their IGs, so I know I'm not alone.
