After a crash forced Emil Johansson to sit out the slopestyle at Cairns last year he was back with a vengeance last week. Emil Johansson laid down an incredible to just beat Dawid Godziek and take his second win of 2023 and tied with Brandon Semenuk’s record of 11 Crankworx Slopestyle wins.

Following his win Emil Johansson said: “It feels awesome! Last year I didn’t really get to do what I was looking to do here, it’s definitely been haunting me a bit ever since,” said Johansson. “So, to be able to put a run down, despite struggling with the weather conditions with the sun and stuff, having all these factors play in and still being able to put down a run…feels awesome!”

Results:

1st. Emil Johannson (SWE) – 91.5
2nd. Dawid Godziek (POL) – 90.25
3rd. Tim Bringer (FRA) – 87.75

If you are into bikes, this is a must see. I happened to be at the crankworx that Semenuk won (his first win). It was insane. One of the best days of my life. haha

Seeing how few comments the slopestyle articles get, I guess the popularity is not as high anymore. With Johansson winning every competition with more or less the same tricks, I understand that though.

It kind of reminds me of when Rachel Atherton won everything in the DH and it got boring. It got a lot more interesting when this era ended, maybe the same will happen to Slopestyle (not that I'm wishing injury on Johansson for a second)

Yea i've said this before and got downvoted to hell but these judges could learn from FMX runs that variety matters. Emil doing nothing but spins and whips just shows a lack of variety. Spins, whips, flips, and even just extension clips. All that should matter.

It's just because it's been a few days since the event and the hype is over, plus a lot of contenders crashed out early. Bringer's run made you spit out your drink, Emil's was indeed great-as-usual-but-kinda-samey, and that was about it. I was stoked for Ice-T but the poor guy's competition ended in frustration.

I guess this is the Outside mag version of a photo "epic" where its 11 photos of people riding and its only on 3 of the features...

Coverage of Crankworx here has been weak af. All these close ups, no action. SAD.
