It’s super nice to see pink bike put up the standings (as ews hasn’t actually updated it yet) but can you pretty please make them bigger so I can read them - they are just a blur right now. Chur
  • 1 1
@enduroNZ: Sorry they are as big as we can make them, but you can view them here as well. https://admin.enduroworldseries.com/uploads/documents/races/1660514780.pdf
  • 2 1
@edspratt: Since you are hosting beautiful high-resolution photos on this site all the time, this statement makes no sense. The PDFs you linked to are perfectly legible, hence you can create high-res images of them that people can actually read.
  • 2 0
@edspratt: It seems to be an issue with viewing them on a the mobile version of your site. I also could not read anything this morning, even when opening the photos directly. But now I'm on my computer and they are perfectly high res, yet still impossible to read on my phone. Hopefully this feedback helps you pinpoint the issue.
  • 1 0
@edspratt: This is an issue for seemingly all results posted on PB. It's either a situation like this where a PDF gets copy-pasted, or an image file of text is posted (not allowing for basic text searching). Hire someone (how about me?) to build PB a results parser! Then you'll have the data in a standardized format and can make your own frontend to view it. Would love to work on something like that.
  • 6 0
@mi-bike: The images are actually in a pretty high resolution already. I'm not sure why they come out blurry on the site as they look fine before uploading and if you download one of the images they are clear again. As pointed out it seems they are completely unreadable on mobile but fine on desktop so we will have a look into this and try and find something that works better.
  • 1 0
 @edspratt: thanks!
  • 1 0
@edspratt: this is an issue for all photos and pictures on the site. On mobile when you open the picture it doesn’t redirect you to higher res version, just the same blurry pic on a separate page, if this can be fixed that would be HUGE.

Watching the stage results and overall times over the last couple races is mind boggling how Masters and Walker are always on the same second.
  • 18 0
Its because the new Conti tyres
  • 13 0
@Matinsky: It is interesting to see results pouring in for Conti gravity riders since these new "-Tal" series tires came out. It has been a genuine head-scratcher that the Continental has utterly dominated the performance road tire segment for the last 15yrs since the debut of Black-Chili rubber, but their trail and gravity tires have been so far off the back, that you simply never see them in North America. Looking forward to trying a new Tal combo: would be really nice to have a third brand I trust making MTB tires worth buying.
  • 6 0
@powturn: if they finally sorted out the casing issues then these def would be great, that was my only complaint with prior generation of conti’s. Black chili is super legit
  • 6 0
@powturn: Maxxis and what? Schwalbe? Michelin?
  • 6 1
@BrambleLee: Good guesses, but on local "cheesgrater" soil (brick-hard clay embedded w/ decomposed granite) Schwalbe knobs won't stay on my tires for more than a month, so even though I trust the grip of Marys and Nics, I can't trust the durability. Michelin let me down a lot when I used to race marathons in Europe, so while I'd gladly test any of their newer tires, they'd have to be free samples before I entrust them with cash $$. Maxxis was correct choice for gravity-oriented tires. Conti 4000/5000 series have been on all road bikes for last 15yrs. Am using a third brand for XC to fast-rolling trail duty: it's all about dust-on-crust hardpack performance in Sierra foothills from April to November. Any guesses as to make / models?

@powturn: stickier than your mom on prom night
  • 6 0
 @powturn: Vittoria?
  • 3 1
@alanbonk: TNT casings on Barzo and Mezcal were miles behind EXO or even Snakeskin standards: had more punctures on Vittoria's XC tires than anything since Bontrager's execrable first-generation TLR XR4. Keep at it guys, you're narrowing down the field ;~>

 @artistformlyknowasdan:
I have a little more than a month with lots of riding on the new Conti Kryptotal F (DH casing) and R (Enduro casing) on my Madonna. They are very predictable and offer outstanding grip in dusty and dry and also in wet conditions.

Casings are 100% true, none of the crazy wobble a good percentage of the older contis had from new.

Durability seems to be better than Maxxis Max Terra(!) - even though both tires are softer compounds.

While I find the trusted DHF DHR combo totally acceptable, the new Contis feel absolutely better to me.
They roll surprisingly well, too.

Where they absolutely are without competition is in wet conditions around freezing temperature with a lot of roots. Night and day advantage.

In other conditions a lot of other rubber works decent as well.
  • 4 0
@znarf: Yeah the conti compounds always have been great. Especially in cold temperatures where e.g. Maxxis is shit. The Baron Projekt was my go-to tire in the winter for years and performed really well in all conditions but hardpack.
The Kaiser is a great tire as well, but only on hardpack trails. Now that they have new treads, they have an awesome tire for most conditions with the Kryptotal. And the durability of Contis has always been very good for the grip they offer.
  • 6 1
@powturn: May I suggest you try out the new stuff from Specialized.
  • 3 0
@znarf: thanks for the beta, looks like I’ll have to try some
  • 4 0
@powturn: gotta be talking WTB. While I personally haven't had a lot of luck with them, they're all over the Sierra.
  • 3 0
@TheBearDen: Bingo! Prev. gen. Specialized Ground Controls & Fast Trak Grids were already perfect balance-of-skills tires for fast & light hardpack riding. The updated tread designs only elevate the consistency of their cornering grip. With the new Grid Trail casing on top of a tread & compound overhaul for the Butcher, I was even shocked to discover that I was just as happy on a T9/T7 dual Butcher setup that I swapped in for a Minion DHF 3C /DHR Dual combo that wasn't in stock when it came time to put new sneakers on the big bike. *YMMV caveat:* 2 buddies who rip have sworn off both Grid & Grid Trail casings due to punctures. One of them outweighs me by 50lbs, and the other is ex-moto racer who always charges the fastest and most direct line his bike can survive, rubber be damned. If you're on a shorter-travel bike, can ride smart & float the nasty sections of XC - AM trails, the Grid GCs and FTs are amazing strategic weapons that offer far better balance of rolling speed, grip, & treadwear than anything else in the category. If you're already riding Double Downs 24/7 to keep air in your tires, this segment of the Specialized lineup doesn't come in casings burly enough for your needs, so look elsewhere.

I am fed up with EWS official live timing site. It works just on one of computer / browser combination I've tried (4 separate computers, two operating systems, several browsers on each). It happened to work on Chrome working at Ubuntu. Each other combination just shows "Awaiting Stage Data..." message.
It is frightening that next year DH and XC coverage will be managed by Discovery as well...

  • 5 3
@Lololmalol: i made a little joke based on all the insta videos from DVO NZ. you can see her having to pull the front back up in many sections that other riders are not.

my opinion is just that, if you take it as gospel thats on you lol. its pinkbike comments, dont take it so seriously haha
  • 1 1

  • 1 0
@HeatedRotor: I can see that page but I can’t see and example's of what you’re talking about. All the forks seem dialled
  • 3 1
@Lololmalol: Theres clips of rae from the last several rounds over the season so far where the fork is getting down and kinda stays down, then you watch other riders and those same sections(all dvo riders) stay high.

Maybe just wait, jesse posts the DVO riders heaps.

This isnt a serious thing and may suit her, but its a joke us locals use in NZ about DVO haha.
