  • 29 1
She's mad, surely. Why risk racing Les Gets (she already has rainbow stripes) so close to breaking collar bone? I'd be playing safe and saving it all for Val di Sole and the overall. Fair play to her though, amazing recovery and balls out bravery!
  • 12 1
@Rickos: The irony of World Champs is NO ONE races for second. No one cares if they blow a corner or miss a braking point or come to a stop. They're all going for the single fastest, all out 100% effort race of the year.

No one can name 2nd place at Worlds. So Vali, Nina and Myriam are all 3 going for an all or nothing win. Statistically, all 3 of them blowing off track isn't likely, but at Worlds, the chances of it happening and Cami sitting on the top of the podium because of it is very real.
  • 15 0
@Rickos: Probably just testing out how she's feeling and getting in shape for Val di Sole?

I am surprised though... seems early.
  • 4 3
@Rickos: ........aaaand that's why she is one of the best downhillers of recent time (and you and me are well....you and me). If she's had it pinned and there's no ligament/tendon damage, then it's probably stronger than before. If she can deal with the pain on the limited analgesics she can take and still pass the piss test, there's not much reason not to ride. And these lot are just wired different.
  • 10 0
@blowmyfuse: mick Hannah. Second place in carins. I have no idea who won that race.
  • 3 1
@watchmen: Yeah that's not how that works. Still a way bigger risk of damage during a crash as the bone hasn't healed around the plate/screws yet. If you crash, it can just tear itself apart.
  • 1 0
@blowmyfuse: Yep, I can think of a couple of times exactly that has happened in the last 10 years.
  • 4 0
I’m sure her orthopod is sh!ting bricks right now. This is asking a lot of her hardware.
  • 2 1
@bonkmasterflex: Just relating what my orthopaedic surgeon told me before he operated on my Grade 5 Ac seperation, fractured humorous and fractured glenoid.
  • 1 2
I think Camille is risking the overall by racing a World's she can't realistically win. Podium is certainly possible, but the stress on the hardware could be a problem down the trail.

@bonkmasterflex: Its probably pretty strong being plated, multiple Moto GP riders have raced on plated collarbones in a couple days time. Id say the forces are probably pretty close id say Moto GP braking forces are probably even higher on the collarbone than DH, atleast on a track like this that doesnt have huge square edge rocks.

 @blowmyfuse: you forgot Peaty!

 @robway: Super Bruni, that's who.

 From the 2nd paragraph above

“Results from qualifying today do not decide the start order for Saturday's World Champs race, instead, riders will start in UCI order on finals day.”
  • 31 1
 So this means nothing then?
  • 2 0
@melonhead1145: only 80 men to finals, 60 junior men. Not sure about womens numbers.
  • 1 0
@Pekis: Ah ok, I thought all attending got into the final show at World Champs as they are picked. Makes more sense now
  • 9 3
Whatever UCI order is… I reckon order should be based on qualies - more interesting day out then
  • 6 4
@nomadmartin: Nope, because some plays the game of qualifying last to go before the rain...
They put points for qualifications in world cup rounds, but in world championship they can't
  • 3 3
So then, why have qualies? Why not just another day of practice, and maybe time it @Voxran:
  • 4 0
@nomadmartin: because only 80 men go to finals but more than 80 are registered. In world cup rounds quali isn't just to set the order, it's also to determine who gets into the race at all.
  • 1 0
Does that mean because Hart and Greenland are out of top 80 that they did not qualify?
  • 6 0
@taprider: Top 20 male World Cup riders (both Greenland and Hart are top 10) are protected and will be added to the 80 qualifiers. In world cups they’re normally sent down just before the top 20 qualifiers start, but probably using uci ranking this weekend.

Top 10 female riders are protected.

Not sure about rules for juniors.
  • 2 0
@taprider: I believe if you're a protected rider in WCDH it carries over into World Champs. I heard Laurie broke the beam then sacked his run off as he wasn't feeling too good. I doubt he would've done that if he wasn't protected.
  • 1 1
 All about the tv money
  • 1 0
@gouldyy: Juniors is usually Top 3 but doesn't look like there are any protected jrs for worlds as Lachlan Stevens Mcnab is 3rd in standings, dnf'd in qualis and isn't on the finals start list.

rough that 61 jr men made it down the course and the cut off is 60. Ondrej Kolecik didn;t make it to finals.

Nice to see reigning Junior Women's world champ Izabela Yankova looking like she's on form to defend the title. Also nice to see Bodhi Kuhn with a solid 3rd place qualifying run in Junior Men. If he posts a strong run in the finals maybe he'll finally get signed by a team.
  • 4 0
Bodhi did get a fresh new Trek, from Trek this week. I am guessing that Trek doesn't sign juniors to the Factory team. Perhaps he is unofficially sponsored by Trek?
  • 3 0
 @like2pedal: say trek again

  • 12 3
Personally I’d rather see them start race in quali order, really makes no sense to do in UCI points order (?)
  • 15 3
Stops riders playing the slow quali game to get an early start if it rains as predicted. Starting in UCI ranking makes it a fairer game.
  • 2 1
Hasn’t the course dried out at the end of the race as well ? I mean I guess you’d have to be an expert weather predictor
  • 8 1
@bikesandbeers: See Champery 2007. Matti intentionally pulled over for 20 seconds in quali to go down early, rode the track bone dry and it was a total washout after him for the fast riders - he won.
  • 2 1
@GrandMasterOrge: technically anyone could do that though…?
  • 1 0
@nvranka: not any more, they put a stop to it with the top 20 protected rule.
  • 1 0

It's wild to think how deep the talent runs in DH right now when you see there's 31 Elite Men within TEN seconds of the winning time on a 3:26 course. And that doesn't include the juniors that finished less than 10 seconds off this time too
  • 2 0
Antoine Rogge was on starting list but doesn't show any time, he was having quite a good season for a privateer, any info why he is notnrunning?
  • 2 0
Ok,as soon as I posted realized the S next to his name probably stands for substitute.
  • 3 0
He's only 20 years old and really seems to have a lot of potential. It would be great if he could hook up with a team for downhill. He said he was racing on a bike that's 2 or 3 years old this year, and at one point his bike got stolen and Loic gave him one of his used bikes.
  • 1 1
@Bibico: I remember that from WynTV but didn't know he is only 20, any idea why he chose Elite instead of under21?
  • 3 0
@miguelcurto: For World Champs it's same as World Cup: Anyone 19 or over races Elite. Juniors are 17-18 years old. Those are the only two classes.
  • 4 0
That's a supreme finishing order for the men.

quote above "Results from qualifying today do not decide the start order for Saturday's World Champs race, instead, riders will start in UCI order on finals day."

what is the point of qualifying then?
  • 5 1
 To qualify for the race.
  • 2 0
Top 20 from current World Cup standings get protected status, top 80 from qualifying get into the race, so the field should be 82 in the race with Hart and Greenland being protected but not top 80 in qualifying. We could’ve seen 100 in the race if things went sideways for all protected riders.

  • 8 0
daprela is the dark horse, its so quiet around him, max commencal prominently mentions amaury in all interviews…guess he can cope with the pressure better than thibault, so makes sense to put amaury in the front…but that makes daprela dangerous…fired up for saturdays race!

 Ouch, man..! @Dini2k:
  • 3 2
@Dini2k: sheeeeit. I know downhill is supposed to be gnarly and this course is no joke, but that road gap just keeps taking people out. It feels unnecessary. There’s tons of other steep tech and line choice to make this race interesting without that gap.

I reckon the union they’re trying to form would stop this sort of feature. I’d want that if I was a rider @thingswelike:
  • 1 0
@thingswelike: Yeah that looks brutal. Trying to make sense of the rules from the other comments, if he's outside of the top 60 does this mean hes not going to be on telly, or even not racing the finals?
  • 2 0
@pbuser2299: If he's fit to race, he'll be protected and can start. The start order is his number plate as quali has no effect.
  • 1 0
@thingswelike: I think start order is UCI WC DH and the plate is last year's finish... i.e. Minnaar is riding with plate 1 at Les Gets.

top 80 plus potected rider qualify for the men so some riders may not qualify.
  • 5 0
 UCI Regulation 9.2.038
There is a qualifying cut off
15 - Jnr Women
60 - Jnr Men
40 - Elite Women
80 - Elite Men

The top ranked riders in Elite only do have protected status Top 10 women & Top 20 men

So some will miss out unfortunately
  • 4 0
 Doesn’t seem very…equitable @OKdeeboy:
  • 1 0
@nomadmartin: I'm not sure how its calculated or set, but seems to be a reflection of the entry numbers.
All the Elite women get through, all bar two Jnr Women get through.
The mens qualy numbers are greater, but so many more miss out...

We need more women in our sport...
  • 1 0
Track looks sick , good luck to everyone, loose and rowdy for the win
  • 1 0
Top 60 elite qualify? Or is it top 80
  • 1 0
 Top 80 for the Elites
  • 1 0
@3dooleyz: top 20 riders (uci points orde) are protected and then the field is limited to 80 so 60 riders have to fight it out for a finals run
  • 1 0
@enduroNZ: there can be a maximum of 100 riders in Saturday’s race.

I don't follow XC, so I have no idea.

Tahnee is still recovering from her concussion and from his IG Reece is hoping to race the last round in Val di Sole.

Has Reece said why he decided to take some time out? Wondering if I missed it or he’s just not shared it publicly.

This year qualifying matters. There is a cut but higher number of riders qualify, I.e top 60 in Jrs vs 25. It also determines start order for finals.

Is it still top 60 in the mens?

@neimbc: top 80. Top 20 in uci points get in automatically (notably Laurie and Dany are protected)

As "qualis" dont matter and it is basically timed training would it be possible to open fantasy again until finals ?

It’s seeding at the worlds, not qualifying. Everybody gets to represent their country!
