Ooooh look Warner/discovery/UCI - a world class mtb event I could watch free and easy with a couple of clicks, no semis and Rob Warner….. got myself a few beers and I’m pumped! Understand the delay pretty sure maydena is prob still on dial up internet it’s a pretty remote place with however many thousands of people floggin the local infrastructure. Thank you Red Bull and the hardline crew

Can someone kill that cricket/grasshopper that near the commentary team haha

@heavyp: thanks, I didn’t notice that until now

 @korev: that was Tahnee!!
  • 8 0
I live in Maydena full time, and I haven't been able to properly use the internet all week! They've done a great job getting this out.
  • 5 0
 This event is just awesome!
  • 4 1
If only the DH World Cup been the same
  • 37 0
Tahnee was great (as she always is speaking to the camera) big fan!
Rob and Elliot showing how true professionals handle a 3 way dynamic without the flow ever feeling awkward. Discovery take note

Ha, I can imagine if it was a Warner Bros World cup race you wouldn't understand the delay and poor quality image on the live feed? hahaha

At least people are stoked for a 36 person entry field though, pure elitist, only the best of the best!

@mcharza: What crappy quality, with cuts to cameras where the rider hasn't even come on screen yet and drone shots filmed inside a soda bottle?

@catweasel: Ye, commentary was really really good! Credit to all three

 @TasGravityGirls: Ahhh bollocks! That's embarrassing...

They are using Starlink , not the local infrastructure, for internet.

 @MrNally: R U ok. Do you need a hug?

 @TasGravityGirls: I was about to say…
  • 79 2
This felt more like a world Cup than the actual world cup
  • 12 2
Thats because Rob just adds soo much more. The whole production team made it better than last years wc.

Got me all nostalgic listening to Rob

2 women racing and 32 men, with half of them over 30 seconds back on the win? Sweet
  • 3 0
@MrNally: how many are left after "Semi's" or the race run before the race run or whatever they do now?

@anotherstoneinthewoods: over 350 riders entered some WC races last year. By my quick calculation; unlimited junior women in finals, 25 junior men, 30 elite men and 10 elite women (not including protected, that's a mess). So yeah around 70++ athletes get to race finals at a World Cup and over 300 enter. Problem?
  • 2 0
@anotherstoneinthewoods: there are no semis at Hardline
  • 2 0
 @bok-CZ: yeah I know... that's the point.

Dude above is complaining about the 32 rider entry field in hardline.

But, during a world cup, after semi finals the rider list is down to 30.

 Amazing Gracie!
  • 17 1
All the men and women did right by awarding her rider of the week. It's so awesome to observe that community of people and their total stoke for seeing each others success and progression and the respect they show each other. It's a legendary sport.
  • 9 0
Stoked for so many moments this year, but yeah Gracie Hemstreet top to bottom was history witnessed. Nice one Gracie!!

Huge huge huge props to Louise for sending the jumps after two crashes!
  • 7 0
Her second crash gutted me. Seeing her get back up and finish that run was intense! She seemed so happy at the finish! She's metal!

I liked that the ladies were just part of the race instead of a separate category. Ive always wondered how differently women would progress if they weren’t separated. Maybe it would be discouraging at first, but once they started started seeing better and better results maybe the field would level out.

That said, I do think the womens progression on MTB has been awesome the the past few years and I look forward to seeing that continue.

It was so great watching the practice videos of the boys and girls shredding together. Big trains over the features of mixed genders. It looks more like a fun bike park session than race prep!
  • 2 0
Quite interesting how the ladies times were just put in with the guys for the final finish order. I thought that was pretty cool. I don't know if that's quite fair to keep doing long term, but there was something, idk respectful about it in some way. Kinda like a shout out to the ladies saying "hey you're on our level now". IDK, interesting. Probably something they can only do because of the small field size?
  • 15 1
I'm wondering how's the Bulldog taking the fact that Rónán put 10 seconds on his time with the bike that his has been talking trash openly for the last 2 years.
  • 6 0
Let’s just remember how much younger Ronan is.

He also just a mad man.

And bulldog may just not like the bike and Ronan likes it.
  • 3 0
@Roost66: Don’t get me wrong mad respect for Brooke and not everyone gets along with the same products you are right, and we all know that Rónán is insane, but if you are opening blaming the bike design to be so bad, I just think is a bit amusing that Rónán took the infamous bike to the number one without even practicing.

Fair play the lady's are absolutely ripping it up this year. 2 in a row back flipping at Dark Fest and 2 completing Hard line. As I watch it all I can't stop hearing the tune from a lady's segment from Earthed ( here come the girls).

Rob, Elliot and guest appearance from Tahnee + Redbull broadcast gad me feeling like I was at a World Cup Race all over again. Watching WC Racers, Free-riders and Slope athletes working and competing together was awesome…….This is the the Future of MTB DH Racing.
  • 2 3
God I hope not. Riders preferenced and invited to race due to their energy drink sponsorship is a terrible future.
  • 11 0
That control to steer around the tree in his crash... Wow.
(Not naming the rider for spoilers reasons)

That stancion gad to be destroyed

I literally shouted seeing Gracey clear that last canyon gap, holy shit.

Honestly, since UCI went to Discovery, the pitbits and track previews are the only thing I‘ve watched. I tried to watch one of these semi finals things but turned it off after 20min.

To me it’s not about the paper view, although I would prefer if you could pay for individual races. I would be ready to pay 10-15 $ a race but the monthly plan doesn’t make sense to me since I would only follow XC/DH WC.

But the main issue I have with the new format is that there is no commercials for a energy drink…jokes.
I all honesty, I just can’t watch it without Rob Warner.
Broke my heart seeing him on that interview where he opened up about the time after he had to set away from WC.
And I think not only for him or the viewers but for the whole sport something died that day discovery took over without Rob.

It’s a shame and I hope one day we see Rob as the voice of UCI WC again. With or without paper view. That Hardline becomes more relevant and as competitive as the World Cups seams unlikely but let’s hope for the best.
  • 1 0
Of you're in Europe I think you can still pay for a month, watch all the races that are happening over that month and then cancel until the next set of races. I worked out that paying for a month 4 times on the right date will cover the whole DH season. So 40-50 for the whole lot.

Luckily I found out how to switch commentary to english.
German is a shame. Don’t they find people who know the scene?
First dude doesn’t know the name of Vinny T followed by speaking about the 90‘s and Sam Hill.
Step away if you have no clue!
What a shame

I have boots on the ground, the event ended already. Why does redbull tv says it starts in an hour.
  • 4 1
Yah I guess redbull tv cant afford to broadcast events live lol
  • 2 0
You are correct. It finished 3 hours ago

I've been drinking for 4 hours in anticipation at the bar across the street where The Spits from Texas are playing.I only left to bring my 21 year old daughter cookies and ice cream from the corner store - it's starting in a couple mins in the PST
  • 8 0
If you’ve ever tried to use a mobile phone (cell) at Maydena you’d appreciate how amazing it is to get footage on only a couple of hours delay.
  • 4 1
I can only think BK doesn't want a redbull helmet. Because if that's not the case, why doesnt he have one. He's literally the focusnof alot of this show!
  • 1 0
If he wins his forth they could suprise him at the podium that would be cool.
  • 3 1
I think he is too old. Red Bull looks for young riders who they can develop a long career with, and BK only became relevant in the past couple of years.
  • 3 0
Optics of "starting" to date your team mate just after she turns 18 isn't great. And would put many sponsors off.
  • 1 0
 @casey79: team mate or employee?
  • 1 0
@Mitchvg: Which is better or worse?
  • 1 0
@casey79: haha well that's obvious so only thing I'll say is, they're not the only ones. Not that that makes it any better
  • 4 3
I know this is going to be a controversial opinion as is type this. But I prefer World Cup tracks and racing compared to these bike park on steroids type events and tracks. Give me steep gnarly tech as fast as possible over this personally. The Redbull event and track at Whistler last year was more up my street.
  • 2 1
Yeah, I feel the same way. Although the jumps are cool, they kind of get boring after a while since there is really only way to hit them. Or at least it looks that way on tv. I think more sectors in the timing would have helped get an understanding of where people were making up time. I know people love this event, but i found myself skipping through most of it and only watching a couple of riders I wanted to see. Basically just watched the top 5 qualifiers.
  • 4 0
I’m sure there is no shortage of steep and gnar. For reference, there are plenty of crashes happened in the race runs by some of the best dh racers, not at the jumps and drops but the techy parts
  • 2 0
Oh there was steep and gnarly tech + off camber looseness, mad braking in dusty jank, a top section that was almost unrideable in the wet (which is a good indicator). The coverage didn't necessarily do it justice. Ask the riders what they thought of it. Some have said best track ever made.
  • 1 0
I was going to agree with you but I rewatched 1199 first. The best sections of 1199 are better than Hardline Tasmania. The worst bits are worse than Hardline Tasmania. E.g. that low speed rock drop to slab to bermless corner in 1199, but also has open grass. I don't think hardline Tas had one section of trail that wasn't there for the sake of it
  • 1 0
*was there for the sake of it. Some might say the pump track in the middle might be useless on a DH track but it beats just putting up some tape on open grass
  • 1 0
@Mitchvg: Yeah, I thought the 1199 course was one of the best new tracks and seen in a long time. Loads of variety with a lot of super steep very techy multiples line choice sections with some serious corners. I think they should incorporate the track it into the world cup calendar or even have a world champs at the Whistler 1199 track. They could probably make the track even better for such and event.
  • 2 0
@Motherloose: the only thing about having world champs there is that it probably is too hard. You'll have juniors from all over the world, and I didn't see much room for b lines. But yes all for it as the last world cup race to help decide the title
  • 5 0
Gracie. Wow, you gained a new fan! Ronan, phenomenal riding! Great show!
  • 1 0
As thankful as I am for all of the great men and women competing in this event, I am most grateful to hear Rob Warner calling it out. As it should be! Thank you RedBull.
  • 1 0
Hearing Rob Warner voice as a comment.... that made may day !
Good the chap is back ...nobody else can make "the sport" feels like Razz

 Well done Theo!

Holy crap. Some of that footage was threatening to give me a seizure, especially the drones. Someone please shoot those things down.

 dunne starts at 1:55
  • 2 3
Lots to dislike about that broadcast, mainly camera locations and empty track, not as good as Discovery produce
