Sam Hill has posted on social media that he fractured and dislocated his shoulder while practicing for the DH race at Crankworx Cairns.
It was meant to be one of Sam's first big downhill races in quite a while, and he says he was feeling good on the bike in earlier practice laps before his big crash. Following the incident, Sam had to be put to sleep to pop his shoulder back in after the dislocation. He also has a fracture in the joint, although he is awaiting more scans and could possibly have to visit a surgeon to get it fixed.
|Had to be put to sleep to get my shoulder popped back into place as it was badly dislocated. Also I have a fracture in the joint so gotta get some more scans/possibly see a surgeon when I'm home but that's me out for a while again I guess...|
First race back on the DH bike, I was so excited for this one. In practice I felt I had the speed and mentality to get me on that podium this weekend. I'm hungry.— Sam Hill
We wish Sam all the best with his recovery and hope he is back riding soon.
Never seen someone's shoulder in that place and the color he turned after he slammed the pole was "opaque".
His reward was a very bumpy hour plus ride to the nearest hospital..
Anyways, do we even know if this was speed related?
Maybe there are examples I don't remember, but I believe almost every single injury report is announcing what has already been released from the family, team, or riders themselves.
Sam Hill - world class racer who's had to pull out of an event that we were all excited for him to race. Also, while a bad injury, it's neither life threatening and hopefully not career ending.
Alicia - a terrible accident, she deserves her privacy and she doesn't owe us anything. Her crash and recovery and medical status are not for our entertainment. I get that people care and want to know, but that doesn't mean we are owed that information immediately.
If I was calling you stupid, I would have written "they can get sued, stupid." Note the comma is key here. Apologies for the misread.
Heal up quick champ!
Wonder if the thing he hit is still in one piece? I thought I felt an earth tremor yesterday!
Heal up Sam!
It’s more like an enduro stage than full on DH track.
No hesitation reporting Sam’s injury yet It’s been nearly a week since Alicia’s crash and Pink Bike has said nothing. I’m a fan of Alicia’s work. I think she’s a great addition, especially to the Field Tests. I see the updates on Gofund, but I’ve gotta say it feels a little cold on Pink Bike’s part to not so much as mention she’s been hurt. I’m sure allot of readers who don’t dig through the comments aren’t even aware she’s in the ICU.
I’ve heard all the possible explanations, but I don’t buy the family privacy excuse as they are clearly fine publishing updates on Gofund. That leaves the Possibility of this happening on company time and the lawyers getting involved. Or corporate not wanting to damage the brand, or some other nefarious business bs.
I don’t want to be that guy thinking these things, but the longer this drags on without word one from Pink Bike the more it starts to smell of corporate lawyers, money, and business decisions from the Outside overlords. I hope I’m wrong.
I see the updates on Gofund, and it’s clear she’s going to need a lot of help and support for a while. If PB posted the story she’d be flooded with support 10 times beyond what she’s already received. Health insurance alone won’t be enough.
I didn’t jump on any bandwagon. It’s been damn near a week and when I saw Sam Hill’s story it got me thinking. Why the hell not let her fans and readers know so they can send prayers, love, support, healing vibes, or cash to her and her family.
Again her updates are on Gofund so I don’t get your assertion that it’s for her privacy.
I don’t see how someone pointing that out offends you so much but flame on kid.
