We use Slack as our workplace communication tool at Pinkbike and we have a #randoms channel that we use to share an assortment of videos and stories from all corners of the cycling world and beyond... We thought a couple of the moments from the past week were too good not to share with a wider audience, so here are some of the highlights.

Hummer's eMTB

photo

With its electric Hummer EV GMC has also revealed a new eMTB after teaming up with e-bike manufacturer Recon.

The Hummer eMTB uses a 48-volt, 750-watt Bafang motor delivering power to both wheels. The all wheel drive system has three riding modes with a "cruise" mode just sending power to the rear wheel, a "traction" mode just powering the front and an "adrenaline" mode for an even split. Recon has limited the speed to 28mph.

bigquotesGMC is excited to collaborate with Recon as they develop the GMC Hummer EV AWD Ebike.

With design cues and inspiration taken directly from the GMC Hummer EV Supertruck, this e-bike further expands customer’s ability to explore different off-road trails — whether in the vehicle or out on the bike.
GMC marketing director Rich Latek

The Hummer EV eMTB starts at $3,999 USD with a slightly more expensive $4,175 USD bike featuring a 21 amp-hour battery.

"The Most Innovative" eMTB

Italian motorcycle brand Moto Parilla has been showing off what it calls "the most innovative" eMTB at the EICMA 2022 expo in Milan.

With its complex design and integrated cooling system, the eMTB hits the scales at 46lb and uses a 250-W Polini E-P3+ MX mid-mount motor with 90 Nm of torque.

Trying to Break a DT Swiss FR541 Rim

bigquotesWe asked for your suggestions on how to break the new DT Swiss FR541, and you answered. This time we've got this downhill/freeride rim mounted up (tireless) to a hardtail, and we're casing jumps, bombing staircases, and smashing curbs. We've also asked our resident clydesdale Sam to give it a good smashing (on a heavy ebike, no less), all in the name of seeing if we can finally break this mountain bike wheel. Fanatik

Colorado Trail FKT with Lachlan Morton

bigquotesWith countless miles of hiking, an average elevation of 10,300 feet, and featuring nearly every style of riding imaginable, the trail is not for the faint of heart and ever since his last attempt, the mythical Colorado Trail has weighed heavy on Lachy’s mind.

Now a few thousand hours of riding later, countless kilometers spent in the saddle – mostly alone – he went back to face his old demons, and hopefully learn something along the way.

20 Foot River Gap Frontside Flips

bigquotesCanadian skateboarder Ryan Decenzo returns to Whistler, Canada and sets his sights on a new challenge to recreate a plywood snow gap that Rick McCrank Frontside 180'd in the early 2000s in an eS skate video. Ryan raises the bar by traversing a twenty-foot winter creek gap on his skateboard using nothing more than the landscape for power. Red Bull

The Hummer e vehicle and e bike, just complete garbage waiting to become garbage, only to be thrown away in the garbage.

It's exactly what happens when external parties try to tell the experts of the field what they think should be done.

The 2 wheel drive ebike is intriguing, has anyone tried such a thing and is it fun?

@kingbike2: someone years ago made one system like that for an enduro motorcycle, and it was incredible. I read about it in a magazine in Italy some 11 years ago!

Meanwhile, South America's Lithium Triangle will be r@ped for its minerals and chemicals. Electrickery isn't the answer.

The fact that they are trying to hide it in photo says it all...

@RedBurn: Currently 30 non-critical thinking people so far are willing to wave their virtue signaling flag while leaving their vehicles plugged in a inconvenient charging station, waiting for another surge to get them further down the highway to idiocracy, guided by the giggles of their masters.

@kingbike2: many years ago (mid-00’s) I remember Mtb action mag tested a 2 wheel drive full suspension bike. Had a crossed helical gear on the front hub along with a series of small drive shafts to connect with the rear wheel. Remember it was quite the interesting set up

@TheLongMan: Yamaha 2 trac developed by ohlins in 2004. Cost around £10k and didn’t sell.

I don’t really know anything about the Hummer EV, but I did see one do a 0 to 100mph run. Right in front of me.
I’ve never seen anything that big move like that. Jaw dropping..

The worst thing that happened to the Hummer brand is when GM bought it from AM General, jacked up the price of the H1 only to kill it off entirely shortly thereafter, and introduced the H2.
  • 4 0
 @gnarlysipes:
Now that, I’m familiar with!
Isn’t the H2 a “kit car” suburban?
  • 3 0
@brycepiwek: Pretty sure I saw one of those in Rim Cyclery in Moab way back then.

@gnarlysipes: Yep the original military (later surplus-available to the public) HMMWV was sick and I still see them on the roads but the GM stuff is wack and so are those EEBs. REUSE!

Riders would get no respect rolling to the trailhead with the Hummer EV SUV and Hummer ebike because it just screams poser. Except unless they were ripping pro level riders. Wink

@kingbike2: To do a 2WD ebike well I think you'd need a steerer sensor to adapt each motor speed slightly depending on turning angle, also there may be a better assist ratio than just 50/50, maybe something like 30% front and 70% rear.

@kingbike2: 28 MPH power to the front wheel only, likely owned by a non bike rider. What could go wrong?

This is how America EV's. Make them as big, heavy, and wasteful as possible. The Hummer weighs 9,000 pounds. So, if the bike takes inspiration from the vehicle, how much will that bike weigh?
  • 3 0
@jmhills: It is a severely obese 95 lbs!! Lol. No joke.

That czech trail! Ultimate scary flow..
As for that hummer ebike, it looks like the kind of shitty chinese obececycle that facebook daftly assumes i might be interested in. I’ve long been intrigued by 2WD ebikes though. No doubt off road handling is utterly crap with front & rear hub motors but as a unrestricted ‘works van’ mischief bike it’d be a right laugh to build up a quality DIY version.

I am not particularly proud of be Italian, but I can ensure you all that motoparrilla is NOT Italian design but an offence to it. You could take as example some lamp just to say something or a Wilier roadbike just to stay more on theme. But not this s@*t. Please believe me.

@ 3:28 in the Hart edit nearly became forensic evidence….
  • 9 2
That Parilla is an offence to Italian design. It may as well be designed by Kawasaki considering what they’ve been doing lately with the motorcycles.

I am beginning to hate e-everything. Maybe I just hate all the e-things mentioned in this round-up. You know what I would buy? A practical e-bike version of a Nissan Leaf, key word practical. Not some e-monster-shit truck.

That Hummer is a POS so I'm assuming the bike is a POS also...

Pinkbike at it again not sharing some really great MTB content, instead sharing Ken Block and slow motion pool break.

Moto Emtb has no pedals so is not a bicycle!?

Audi speedometer is in miles per hour or km per hour?
Really enjoyed the precision driving and melting of tires.

That Danny hart video is what GoPro was made for. Incredible. GoPro makes everything look slow and boring so those boys were absolutely flying. So smooth.

I remember trying to break a rear 36 spoke sun rhino lite with a buddy. We put it on a litespeed with an extra cycle and started surfing around campus. I want to say we got three guys on it before it disintegrated(we had already beat the life out of it prior like the fanatik boys!). Good memories!

  • 1 0

True, like he wasn’t already annoying enough. The audi tech is solid though. Too bad they felt compelled to whore it out to that fool. Should have given it to someone who actually knows how to drive/race.

You can slap a hummer name on the truck but the only true Hummer's were the H1... the H2 and H3 were hummers in name plate only.

Would the dt-rim still be able to hold a tubeless tire after all the punishing?
  • 4 0
Probably not, but we originally did smash it on trail with no tire and we were able to get the tire to go back on there

I think we fully did it in with all the tireless riding this time though

Props to the dude keeping up with Danny Hart in that video. That was fast!

I can't wait to see a Pinto branded e-Bike! Maybe it'll be a tenth the size and weight of that Hummer e-POS!

  • 1 0
"Most innovative bike" ... that you'll never see in this video.
