Throwback Thursday: Amaury Pierron's Incredible Winning Run from the 2019 Les Gets DH World Cup

Jul 1, 2021 at 2:00
by Ed Spratt

This week we heard the sad news that Amaury Pierron would not be making it to the World Cup in Les Gets after injuries to his kidney, liver, and lung from a crash the French Cup DH. We wish Amaury all the best with his recovery and hope he is back up to full speed and racing soon.

With no wild runs from Amaury in Les Gets this weekend, we looked back at the rapid ride that took him to the top step of the podium in 2019. Amaury was in a league of his own last time we were at Les Gets for the World Cup and his incredible final run of the week put over two seconds into the second-place time of Loic Bruni. It was a masterclass in how to ride the Les Gets course.

Amaury Pierron is the boy to beat and no bones about it he will be reluctant to give up his status here for finals.

Amaury Pierron fully pinned and into first

Amaury absolutely smashed it today to take other dominating win.

Amaury Pierron ends up on the ground after crossing over the line to an incredible win...

There s winning and there s winning at home in front of friends and family on one of your country s biggest holiday weekends. Amaury Pierron doing it for France today.

0.55 when he jumps into the rut for the corner, so precise...

I thought that. How did he stick that? Insane level of skill

I noticed that bit too. He nailed it perfectly. I love how happy he is at the finish.

every time i watch this run i have to rewind that landing. absolutely bananas.

There's a lot of "Oh Jebus man" moments in that run. But that precise placement in that rut was unreal. Dude landed already leaned into the damned rut. Most other riders would have launched into a highside crash or slide out the front low side.

I witnessed this epic run in person. I was there on the hillside near the finish line, and Laurie was in the hot seat when Loic was doing his run. After Loic went fastest the crowd was going completely nuts. And then Amaury threw this run down, beating him by over 2 seconds, which was completely insane. You had to be there to soak this all in. Still gives me shivers to this day. Incredible.

The thing that makes this run so insane for me is watching Loic's run first. Loic is pinned and laid down a impressive run with a healthy lead. And then just when you think you couldn't see anyone ride this track any faster...

I showed that run the other day to a client of my bike workshop, a nice Madame, who was curious about the big bike I was repairing and who didn't know what nowadays mountain bike consists in. She remained speechless with the mouth wide open and finally said "This is not human". Smile

That nearly made me cry! For pretty much the same reason as @maglor. And the amazing way that all the riders he just beat went absolutely crazy for him. DH is the best.

I am always so impressed. The faster they go the smoother it gets. So cool when he starts to get close to the bottom and the crowd of people starts to come into view and the cheers grow louder. It must be an amazing feeling. Get well Amaury so we can see more soon.

This run and the Gwin run at Windham are 2 of my favorites. To win on home turf and do it convincingly with the crowd going crazy. Going to find the redbull replay of both of these runs now!

What’s incredible is how fast I thought I was until I watched that.

I forgot just how fast and on edge this run was, it blows my mind that he can ride like that. Heal up soon Amaury!

this is definitely the category like Sam Hill‘s run in val die Sole or Danny Hart‘s run in Champery - goosebumps always nice to re-watch

It’s a real bummer that he is out of competition- always 100% dedicated

Best run ever done yet. Precision is ridiculous! Can't wait for him to fully recover and be back at doing unhuman things like that
