Rachel Atherton, the queen of downhill was back like she had never left, putting down a faultless performance aboard her own named Atherton Bike to take the win in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. Check out her GoPro winning run!—UCI Mountain Bike World Series
Coverage was pretty bad, especially since it's something you need to pay for. Plus no Rob feels like something very important is missing. Him leaving left a big hole.
He didn't "leave". He is still under contract with Red Bull and couldn't announce. I would pay for a live Rob Warner commentary that I could play as I'm watching the race live though. Just have him doing commentary from his home as the race is happening.
honestly I think the girls need to wake the f*^k up.. I mean, Rachel is Rachel.. but I think could see her struggling with fitness, or managing it .. sitting when she could and slowly fading down the track, but it was enough to win.. if Rachel can be fit as before her last injury, she will swipe out the field again...
@Lagr1980: first race back in how long? Yeah, she's gotta bit of rust to knock off.. She was second in qualifying, so this wasn't a total fluke.. This could just motivate her more for the next round.. A win definitely doesn't hurt the confidence..
So good at riding in straight lines when ever she can and making every corner into a smooth curve without any sudden movement, no matter how nasty the corner is. Unreal rider, congratulations.
Atherton was incredible, especially against such a stacked field. A race for the ages - I had goosebumps watching her clinch it. She is the GOAT and an incredible role model.
A gripe: there's a huge equity issue with only letting 10 women into finals compared to 40 men. There are no good arguments for this wide a gap (only bad ones). The women's field and all the upcoming girls deserve better.
Only logical reason is broadcast time and scheduling. That said they take a higher percentage of the womens field to the finals - 10 out of 45 compared to 30 of 200 men
"They" are trying to grow the sport and bring in more revenue/sponsorship. Having 40 women racing with some that are clearly off the pace is not going to help; it might even have a negative impact on those women who are on pace.
One solution might be to have a min of 10 women in the finals with more women able to race if they can pass an agreed timing threshold. This maintains a minimum standard, provides an incentive to improve and could help grow the womens race - just an idea...
@Prof: why should it only be women that have to meet a time standard though? Looking at the mens qualie results there’s at least 40% of the field that don’t have the pace to move into the semi
It certainly wouldn't hurt to add 5 women to the finals. If they're worried about broadcast time they can remove 5 men from the finals. It's not like they realistically had a chance to podium. Unless I happen to be actually watching it live and have the time, I usually skip forward through the first 10 or more men unless there's a rider I'm particularly keen to follow.
Damn it's crazy how the DH replay is the only thing unavailable. The one thing I want to watch, and I am absolutely not going to sign up for some Discovery bullshit even one time to watch it. Stupid, unsuccessful business move that just leaves DH fans in the lurch. Do I want to watch it that badly? No, so nice judgment call on that one you corporate f*cks.
I hear everyone saying how bad the coverage was, but this is only their 2nd time trying to broadcast a DH race. Cut them a little slack. I'm sure it will improve as time goes on. Red Bull wasn't great at the beginning either. It took them years and a lot of attempts to get it right, and we got used to that quality. Now, it's someone else's turn to learn, and I personally think it shows a lot of potential for the future. I'm just gonna keep subscribing, and hopefully those funds will go towards better coverage in the future.
The difference is expectation.
If the product is free, it is much easier to forgive teething problems and quality issues.
If you charge a fee, it somewhat implies that the people involved are professionals that back their own competence to deliver a premium service. It's harder to ignore issues or quality drops compared to the preceeding free product.
I'm pretty anti organized religions but can't you just respect the dudes faith and say "hey it's not for me but it works for him" and move on?
You guys that complain about religion are just as bad as those that promote it. Which for the record he doesn't do... He speaks on his own faith without disrespecting anyone. He doesn't say you cant be the best without Christ. He's not out here trying to convert kids at events.
He seems like a genuinely nice dude who talks on things that are important to him. Sures it's a part of his public image, but is that doing harm?
What about the dudes promoting the " win or lose we are on the booze" not that I really take issue with that but it just seems funny people attack someone for having faith but are fine with promoting unhealthy substances to the masses?
@Cheddar420: I feel much the same way about religion and I couldn't agree more. IMO The people who bash this are the ones who are not secure enough about their own beliefs (whatever they may be) to just move on.
@Cheddar420: I think people are more upset with some of his IG posts about all the culture war BS than his own faith. He's been pretty lowkey in the racing world. it's not like he's going around saying "Win or Lose, I love the King of the Jews"
@Cheddar420: I have a good litmus test. When someone publicly mocks someone's Christian beliefs, I just ask "Would you say the same thing if they were Muslim?"
Vali Holl: " I can win World Cup."
Nina Hoffman; " I can win World Cup."
Rachel Atherton: " Hold my baby."
On another note: that comeback from Rachel was insane!!!
