Welcome to the Vittoria Tires Enduro World Series La Thuile where riders will be facing Rounds 3 and 4 in the second of this year's doubleheaders. We've had different winners in both rounds of the series so far but it's still neck and neck in the overall's with new rivalries forming and some of the closest racing we've ever seen!—GMBN
A lot of the previous top riders are struggling this year, not just Sam. Greg Callaghan and a few others come to mind as well. Hard to get back into the required training intensity after not racing for so long. I have no doubt that Sam and others will be be back with a vengeance, possibly later in the season and definitely next year.
Not that it is even remotely comparable, but I didn't race from Feb of 2020 until last month and went from consistently being 1 or 2 in my class for several years to top 5 or 6 in the last few races. Motivation is back for training now though because I am pretty frustrated with my performance.
@4thflowkage: that may explain pure performance uphill... but did he also loose focus on the descent? That pal had no nerves in the past. Anyway, it is what it is.
@Akosga: these guys risk their lives every race. If you want to win you need to be willing to take some serious risks and leave it all out there. Eventually it’s scary and not worth it to ride balls out (specially in the muck) risking your life. Not sure if that’s the case with Mr. Hill but I wouldn’t blame him for it.
Had high hopes for GMBN getting involved and it is getting better. The narration is good, graphics are good. But the music choices were always bad and they haven't improved. Cut most of that incidental music out. And hopefully stop entering "epic drama" into the sound library search, all those staccato strings are like a wack XC race promo. Super annoying. The action is there: it doesn't need poor quality music to enhance it.
Not a fan of the increased sponsorship "noise" (like stage names and in-video sponsor promos) but I guess that's a bit like cursing the rising tide... pretty pointless. :-(
Really hope in the next few years technology can help this coverage get better. I'm trying to be polite but lets be honest, it's not really very exciting to watch.
Still don't understand why they don't require the top 10-20 men and women to run cameras either on their bikes or person. Using that footage interspersed with the static cameras would add a lot to the coverage.
@salespunk: Yeah, solid idea, get some them mad drones following them as well. I like EWS but it feels a bit like following Downhill racing through magazines in the 90's.
@LDM81: I wonder if they could put in temporary static lines which drones could fix to in some areas. That way it would lessen human error and also prevent any fallout should something malfunction....having never operated a drone or managed event coverage I have no idea what I'm talking about.
