bigquotesDay 2 of Red Bull Hardline is here and the jumps are getting ticked off, starting at the top and working down to the 90 footers!! Biggest jumps of life - this place is insane!!! So so stoked to hit them for the first time once again with Matt Jones! Jono Jones

Matt Jones:

bigquotesIt’s now or never to ride the full Red Bull Hardline track! Every feature is way crazier and harder than I thought. And the downhill MTB tech sections between are so difficult for me! But I’m trying my best and can’t wait to see if the whole course is doable for me. My plan is to race in finals this weekend and complete a full run. It was sick hitting some of these jumps for the first time with Jono and Bernard Kerr. Legends! Matt Jones

Jenna Hastings:

bigquotesHardline days one and two! the girls shreddddd the course and talk lines and the boys, Bernard Kerr, Matt Jones, and many many more rip the Hardline course! Jenna Hastings

Jono Jones:

bigquotesRed Bull Hardline is back for 2023 and we went up the hill to walk the track with all the other riders. There's some small tweaks this year but as ever the jumps and gaps are immense. The road gap scares the life out of me every time!!! Very nervous to start practice later today but stoked to be riding this course with @MattJones for the first time. Let's go! Jono Jones

bigquotesRiders on course!!! It's so good to be back on track at Hardline. There were highs and there were lows but my word the feeling of ticking off these jumps is unparalleled!!! So amazing to be riding with Matt Jones on these crazy downhill mtb jumps. Bring on tomorrow! Jono Jones

Matt Jones:

bigquotes2023 is my first time riding the Red Bull Hardline course. After years of walking it, making videos and explaining how insane this downhill MTB track is, it’s finally my time to ride it on my Marin prototype downhill bike. MTB downhill is a crazy sport but the Hardline track is the toughest in the world. I’m scared! Enjoy the track walk tour, the new jumps and reminiscing of when I brought my dirt jump bike here.  The influencer thumbnails make me want to kick puppies. Gross.
  • 4 0
"doin it for the gram" is now an insult
  • 8 0
I ended up installing a Chrome plugin called 'Hide YouTube Thumbnails' because of how much those thumbnails irritate me! Unfortunately it doesn't work here, but it makes the main YouTube site a marginally less horrific experience.
  • 8 0
How do you feel about 'My new bike is a game changer ' thumbnails where the bike itself is blacked out?
  • 12 0
@TommyNunchuck: It depends whether the video author is making that exaggerated fake shock face
  • 11 0
 how about the "yea boi"
  • 18 0
@mad1at0: All these kids shouting "Yea Boi" for the past 10 years don't even know who Flavor Flav is
  • 7 0
@naptime: When was it not an insult?
  • 5 0
Maybe I don't want to kick puppies, but yeah. The youtuber vlogginess of our sport is really in your face with this one.
  • 3 0
@Rudy2455: I mean look at gaming, or science, or any other topic. It’s just an unfortunate result of what the YouTube algorithm prioritizes.
  • 3 0
@succulentsausage: That doesn't mean you have to participate in it.

@succulentsausage: That's true, mountain biking isn't the only sport taken over by it. And in a way, I am grateful. It gives a lot of power to athletes to share their stories with their own voice, instead of filtering it through event managers or sponsors. But it's very formulaic, and doesn't appeal to me, personally.

Bernard's stoke, encouragement, and leading in to first hits was great to watch.

LOVED him leading Tahnee into a couple of those features on the lower part of the course! What a great mentor!
  • 12 0
Whomever pitched the idea of giving laser meters to the riders/vloggers to measure the span of the jumps deserves a raise

 I'm done with 'Yea Boi'

 No boi!

The first DH race I'll watch this year....... an maybe the only
  • 20 15
Why is that? WC racing had been awesome so far. Lets all give up on the sport we love because it's no longer brought to us by the manufacturer of toxic horse piss? We all miss Warner but the racers make the racing great not the commentators.
  • 4 1
@Struggleteam: I used to ove the fact that the sport I was watching was paid for by diabetic fat lorry drivers go go juice............ an I never had to touch the stuff to finance my free entertainment.
  • 1 0
@Struggleteam: so where can I watch the finals? It's not on YT for sure...
  • 2 0
@dj100procentenduro: mate it's not even on Discovery+ in my experience
  • 1 0
@Struggleteam: The racers make the racing, but the producer makes the show - literally. I, too, cannot be arsed to pay the fees and find the new stream location. I'll stick to the Youtube recaps and results pages and podcasts and clips and million other ways I can consume the race.

@naptime: Fun fact, there is no age restriction on the purchase of Redbull in the US. I didn't even know that was a thing until a tourist from the UK mentioned it to me in a hotel elevator while I was drinking a sugar-free Redbull (ironically).

It’s not a race. It’s an invitational marketing show to sell cans of drink. Why do you think most of the top riders don’t show up
  • 2 0
@naptime: I hear ya man. I still Iove redbull tv for hard enduro, world rally etc and I love what they do for sports. However, I don’t drink that garbage. Not sure how it goes in down in Europe but here we spend a ton of money on various streaming services. I don’t mind spending $40 per year for GCN+ to watch a sport I love. I think the camera work is better than redbull was and you can turn off the commentary if you want and just hear tires on dirt. It’s not the racers fault just corporate bull shit and I’m going to stick with the sport regardless.

Matt's fear of this trail is palpable I swear it is what I would imagine one of us plebs thinking when we walked the the track and Matt is an amazing rider. Definitely worth watchin just to hear him in Aww of having to finally ride some of these insane features. BTW anyone know where Jackson Goldstone is this year, noticed he wasn't riding.
  • 1 0
Jackson IS listed as a rider for this year ... on the RedBullTV website, if you click into the event ... under the "Riders" tab? But def no sign of him yet in any of the preview/first hit videos
  • 2 0
He was thinking of having his appendix out as it has put him in hospital this year.
  • 9 0
Jackson is out with an appendix operation.
  • 1 0
Matt also guinea pigged the on-off this year, so he can't be too afraid..
  • 1 0
@steezysam: He guinea pigged it? What video? I would've thought for sure that Bernard or Gee would hit it first
  • 3 0
Matt's reaction is more like what we would feel walking some random double black at Whistler or whatever. I'm pretty sure us plebs wouldn't even consider riding anything on Hardline.
  • 2 0
Jackson announced after Val Di Sole that he was going to have his appendix removed due to it kept getting inflamed and causing problems. He wanted it done ASAP so he would be ready for upcoming races but was sad to not be able to defend Hardline.

 @dantecusolito: youtu.be/i3zGKln0N3o?t=327

Gee totally might have hit it first this year, but Matt opened it up during the first session that lots of folks hit it

Given this in the middle of the WC DH season this year, I imagine we'll see far less WC racers taking part. Interesting now that redbull lost world cup rights that they shift this event to the middle of the season and not at the end like before. If you are serious about winning an overall or world champs,I can't imagine the risk of doing this event is worth it.
  • 8 0
World Cup doesn’t end until early october and September is busy with races. It was either this weekend or post world champs.
  • 2 0
@bgoldstone: Tough to fit in for sure. It was mid Sept last year but the WC season was already over by then. Must be tough to commit to this event in the middle of the WC season.
  • 2 0
Most of the top riders are never there any year
  • 3 0
@bgoldstone: Can't wait for the snow at the MSA stop.

BK is just the man. The LSD is hands down the best thing to happen to downhill media coverage.

Bernard Kerr packs his bag like my four year old son does
  • 7 1
Great seeing more of the girls involved this year. Need more coverage of this Pinkbike.

Nooo, not Jess Blewitt getting hurt again - love her riding style and can only wish her a clean season!
  • 5 1
There's just too much of everything to keep up with these days. I'll wait for the end of season DVD.

Gas To Vlog goes big time! Gowan Grandad...

The weather is looking terrible. Chance of cancellation?
  • 1 0
I hope so. I had a ticket for Saturday so I'd rather see the event possibly rescheduled
  • 2 0
Getting spun round by bernard kerr in the first 2 minutes of his video
  • 2 0
Saturday now cancelled due to high winds
  • 1 0
Hockers isn't even covering his brake, mad man. I've pretty well had all the "yeah boi" I can take.
  • 1 0
Jeeeeepers H Christmas that is nuts. The commentary just accentuates how gnarly that is. Well bloody done gents
  • 1 0
