Following the Red Bull Formation journey so far? Then you'll know that the class of 2022 have been going bigger than ever before for the third edition of this freeride progression session.
Rider list: Camila Nogueira Casey Brown Chelsea Kimball Georgia Astle Hannah Bergemann Harriet Burbidge-Smith Louise Ferguson Robin Goomes Samantha Soriano Vaea Verbeeck Vero Sandler Vinny Armstrong—Red Bull Bike
It's so cool that this massive progression in women's freeriding is happening at a point where social media exists, and with a group of people who don't mind revealing how they really feel about hitting these terrifying lines! It's absolutely fascinating to see how people work up to hitting this stuff and to hear about how they deal with the fear.
Hitting any of that stuff is unimaginable to me, the bravery and skill is astounding!
Also, that bit at 1:43 where you can see the diggers down below and really appreciate the exposure made my legs wobble a bit! If I found myself up there I'd be laid face down on the ground screaming for an airlift down.
Anyone else prefer the Formation format vs Rampage? Personally, I feel like not having to cater to judges for a good score would really free up a lot of creative energy on that big mountain. Then again, if you remove the competition you will probably also lose a lot of funding for the heli/ drone shots and general event support.
Been thinking the same. Rampage features and the risk just seems too big to be glossed over in one or two scored runs covered by a helicopter shot.
Honestly recent Rampages I'm probably more worried about the possibility of one of my heroes getting permanently injured out there than what their score is.
Liking how the Formation format slows it all down and allows the viewers to appreciate the process of pushing the limits.
Did I see what I think I saw at about 3:18? Jump to side-saddle landing into another jump and back to pedals? I'm sure there's some sort of wacky name for it like a "wet hashbrown" or "topsie onesie" or something, but no matter what it's called, that was siiiiiiiick.
Those girls are absolutely smashing it! Incredible what they built within a week and how smooth they are going down those insane lines.
Also looks like Freeride is a category where gender does not make as much difference as in Enduro i.e. - love to see that!
@dirtologist: After getting robbed in speed & style landing a backflip in competition she's only continued to get better. Definitely pushing the sport forward.

She's also the one flipping that jump later on in the video.
Very much worth it watching her full run: www.instagram.com/tv/CdmWmgKgstO/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y
