Evidently PFP knows a thing or two about peaking (and not listening to naysayers along the way).
  • 29 1
She may not be the most beloved rider, but there’s no doubt she’s one of the best of all time. Stone-cold killer.
  • 7 0
Agreed. Even if she’s not one of my faves, a quick tally of her achievements ensures she will remain one of the all-time greats of the sport.

Keller crashing, dropping way back down the field to P12 on 6th lap and then still coming back to claim silver was very impresive!
  • 4 0
Super impressive and damn lucky she landed in the grass and not in the rock garden itself. That would have been ugly to say the least. What a ride to get herself back to the Silver, Double Thumbs Up.

Loved watching the Men’s race, with Blevins and Gaze patiently playing the positioning game while less savvy riders burned matches all around them. Gaze lit the fuse at the perfect time and Blevins knew it was coming. Blevins clearly knew he had to be first around the last corner and took every risk, but Gaze beat him to the spot. Near-perfect tactics from both, but the best man won.

Beautiful race.

Blevins got 16th? That’s not great.
  • 3 0
@SvenNorske: watch the race, it was neck and neck until the last corner. he went down hard and almost took the dnf.
  • 8 1
@SvenNorske: why do people comment without even bothering to watch? You just end up looking ignorant.
  • 2 0
blevins looked like he hit his head pretty good on the crash before the last corner. Hope hes ok.
  • 1 0
How you watching? I can’t seem to find a stream.

 @drews97: cheers!

Was the race even on Red Bull in any country?
  • 7 0
Man, I really though Blevins was going to do it again. I can't imagine how disappointed he is in himself with that move. Bummer man. Kind of a lean field though, no Luca, Nino, Flueck, Pidcock, Uolla, all viable winners. But Gaze earned it fair and square.
  • 2 0
Uolla was racing....for 7 laps... finished 3 laps down.
  • 12 1
Very happy for gaze who has battled back from aplenty.

I'm shocked Sam won. Safe to say he's one of the least liked racers in the world to the point many don't care who wins as long as it isn't Sam.
  • 5 0
@bikewriter: Yea in his younger days he definitely had his less that likeable moments. Then just as he was starting to mature he had that nasty head injury at the 2019 Cape Epic. After that he vanished for several years.
We'll have to see which Sam has returned now that the spotlight is turning back in his direction.
  • 2 0
@bikewriter: I am curious, why people don't like him?
  • 2 0
 I am also very curios
  • 5 0
@timryang: Ah yeah, I remember this. Not great. It seems like he’s a passionate guy and sometimes has used bad judgment, and it probably didn’t help that Anton comes off as classy and thoughtful. But Gaze is a cerebral and exciting racer, and I’m not going to hold that incident against him for the rest of his career.
  • 4 0
@nattyd: yeah it seems like he's matured a lot. I think he's good for the sport and it's great to see him win this.
  • 5 0
@timryang: Yeah, he honestly gives great and respectful interviews. Racing is hard and most of us aren’t at our most civil in the heat of the action.
  • 7 0
@Augustus-G: definitely. He was a cocky SOB years ago. But even before his injury he was maturing after his dumb incident with cooper. He won the MSA short track in 2018 and came over and talked with me and my son like no pro I've seen. Minutes after his win. He earned himself some fans that day.

He has been very open about his mental health struggles that followed his traumatic brain injury.
(depression, anxiety, and PTSD can even follow mild concussion, but are extremely common following severe trauma)
So massive congrats to World Champion Sam Gaze for the win ,his recovery, personal growth, and making the world a slightly better place by taking about mental health openly @timryang:

@jtorrento: Did the same with me once too. As you said, like no pro I've seen

Pauline destroyed in a race usually split by a couple seconds
  • 8 0
In all fairness Keller crashed and finished only down 18 seconds.
  • 4 2
@generictrailrider: The big question is did Pauline burn all her matches with nothing in the tank for XCO.

I did not see how much time the crash cost Keller, what was the previous lap split?
  • 3 1
@fabwizard: that's not the big question. She's world champ for xcc, period.
  • 2 0
@generictrailrider: PFP was over 30-secs ahead. She did this thing called slowing down, and stopping pedaling 20m before the line. Keller would still have been 30+ seconds back if PFP actually rode her pace on the last lap.
  • 4 0
@fabwizard: Nope, she’ll be just fine. It’ll be her and Loana on Sunday, just like Euros, barring unforeseen catastrophe.

Great racing, super fun to watch. Too bad the GCN feed was crap. No pre race show, no insider interviews, only one person trackside for a quick course description and one person for all the anouncing. The anouncer did okay considering they didnt even seem to be on site and didn't have any material prepared but they kept making mistakes like misidentifying and interview with Gwendalyn Gibson as Kate Courtney and the anouncer didn't even correct it. Super disappointing broadcast for a world championship race.
  • 3 0
Not sure who the commentators were for the NZ feed, but one of them kept saying Alan Hatherly was defending the stripes.

We are so going to miss Rob ☹️

Is Redbull not carrying short track?
  • 3 0
No, the coverage is spread over quite a few different broadcasters this year. I don't think Red Bull is showing it anywhere.
  • 1 0
yeah, I'm not seeing it either
  • 4 0
Red Bull are only covering Elite DHI & XCO.

GCN/Eurosport will also have the U23 XCO on Sunday morning.....

I'd love to know what has happened, as I think we all thought RBTV would have the Short Track, like last year....
  • 3 0
Red Bull doesn't own the rights to Worlds....just World Cups. You may be able to watch it on RB using VPN as it's geo restricted. It is a FloBikes in the US
  • 1 0
@Starch-Anton: Is GCN also covering the DHI and XCO? or is that Redbull?
  • 2 0
@Ososmash: Yes, both will have coverage.....
  • 3 0
You can watch it on UCI youtube channel, but it has a Geo-block, so i had to use VPN
  • 1 0
Redbull is doing a live stream but it's geo-blocked. Some places where the live stream is available: Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, South Sudan, and Syria.

@laupe: Which country did you use?
  • 5 0
 @chotim57: I used Japan Smile
  • 2 0
 @laupe: thank you!!!!!!

Did Blevins crash on last lap? Damn.
  • 4 0
 @erikouellette: interesting passing attempt...
  • 4 0
@timryang: dude faceplanted on the rock real hard. At the end he was talking with Gaze and taking all the blame on his crash, he told him that he though "it is here" but didn't worked as expected.
  • 13 1
He and Gaze both rode perfect tactical races. Blevins knew he had to be first through the final corner to win. Gaze beat him to the spot, Blevins tried a desperation move, it didn’t work out. Great race.

Glad Blevins was wearing the safest road-style helmet on the market…
  • 2 0
I was suprised that Blevins tried to pass there, he probably didn't look staight down to see the big rock he hit
  • 2 0
@laupe: Yeah, didn’t really look like there was a line there. Glad he seems OK.
  • 3 0
@erikouellette: yikes, hope he's okay for the XCO. Not that you can diagnose a concussion by just watching the crash but... it didn't look great.
  • 1 0
@erikouellette: OUCH, that had to hurt. A lot.
  • 3 0
@timryang: DAMN, that makes my head hurt just watching it.
From what I could see, which isn't the greatest he looks like a prime candidate for the Concussion Protocol. Hope he's OK and he can start on Sunday.
  • 1 0
Ouch. That was more like a wall than just a rock. Hope he’s doing ok.
  • 2 0
Blevins confirmed my speculation about his tactics this morning on Instagram:

"The BMX kid in me knew I had to go for the win in the last corner, even if it meant risking the race. At a certain point around the grass I had committed, and if I had been just a tire length more ahead through the rocks, I think I would’ve had that pass. But that’s the roll of the dice we call racing sometimes."

Shame wanted to see this. I'm really frustrated with the TV coverage the UCI need to sort out their act or leave it to someone else.

 So no Fluckinger? Too soon?

How boring was the coverage of these races.... seriously from the participants to the commentators! Rate it from 1 to 10.... and no extra points for the rain or crashes Wink
  • 1 0
You got commentators? We had nothing but background noise. For the DH too.
  • 4 0
 Gutted for Blevins.
  • 11 1
He rode a great race. Gaze beat him to the line through the last rock garden and the win was lost there. Blevins took one final risk and it didn’t work out. But Gaze earned this one.

Proud of Blevins, he put up a great defense.
  • 2 0
@nattyd: Was a perfect race up until the last rock section right?! at that point it was "50/50 shot I make it through these rocks first!". Excellent race Blevins!
  • 5 0
@like2pedal: Yep. After Gaze went on the last lap, Blevins made three increasingly risky moves to get around, culminating in a near crash and then an actual crash in the last two rock gardens. He knew it would be near-impossible to get around Gaze in the short finishing straight. Still a great race by Blevins.

Many big names not racing in short track. Bec McConnell, Loana... Did l miss the explanation?
  • 2 0
I believe because it has no impact on their XCO grid positions, since XCC is now stand alone.
  • 3 0
Where are all the Frenchies? PFP is the only one!
  • 2 0
Ok, what happened to Blevins on the last lap?
  • 4 0
Blevins crashed while battling for the lead on the last obstacle. It was a fierce battle with Gaze. Crash was pretty hard into a boulder.
  • 3 0
 Where’s Nino?
  • 6 0
Looks like he sat out to save it for Sunday. He’s never really liked XCC and mostly races it for start position. But it doesn’t matter for worlds.

 RW: "...like a homesick mole!"

BB: "A crash of him!"

What happened to Hailey batten? And loana lecomte?
  • 1 0
Seems like they sat out since this short track doesn’t seed for Sunday. Same with Bec, Nino.

 fuck yeah PFP!

NO french on XCC... impressive... Just one PFP
