Video: $450 vs. $2000 Suspension - Budget vs. Baller Episode 4
@drunknride: if you do a search on the internet “simple green and aluminum” you’ll come across numerous accounts of accelerated corrosion and embrittlement on bike forums, car enthusiast sites, and has also been banned as a cleaning solution by the US Air Force. Simple Green’s website also has a disclaimer stating: “ However, caution and common sense must be used: aluminum is a soft metal that easily corrodes with unprotected exposure to water. The aqueous-base and alkalinity of Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner can accelerate the corrosion process. Therefore, contact times for unprotected or unpainted aluminum surfaces should be kept as brief as the job will allow - never for more than 10 minutes. Large cleaning jobs should be conducted in smaller-area stages to achieve lower contact time. Rinsing after cleaning should always be extremely thorough - paying special attention to flush out cracks and crevices to remove all Simple Green product residues. Unfinished, uncoated or unpainted aluminum cleaned with Simple Green products should receive some sort of protectant after cleaning to prevent oxidation.” https://simplegreen.com/faqs/15/ Consider this a PSA for everyone here! Just don’t use it on bikes, and get a bike specific wash like Muc-Off or Pro Gold’s bike cleaner. It’s not just marketing wank - they’re formulated that way for a reason.

Round Up: 6 Ways Mountain Bikers Use Tape to Keep Their Bikes (and Bodies) Fast
@kcy4130: I don’t think any kind of tape can stop a spoke from going through it. It’s thinner than stans but for whatever reason has a better adhesion to my carbon rims. With two full layers it’s still thinner than a single layer of Stan’s and feels more robust. A roll of this stuff is so cheap you should give it a try, and will last you for dozens of wheels.

Round Up: 6 Ways Mountain Bikers Use Tape to Keep Their Bikes (and Bodies) Fast
@bikeryder85: kapton tape is my go to rim tape. Comes in a variety of widths, is super strong and light (even with two layers), and sticks to my carbon rims much better than Stan’s.

Giant Reign 2

$2300 CAD
Selling my bone stock 2016 Giant Reign 2, purchased brand new from a Vancouver LBS for 3600 (still have the original receipt if that matters to you) and only used for one season around the North Vancouver and Squamish area. Never taken to the bike park, and ridden for less than 200kms! Does not come with pedals. If you want a specific photo please get in touch and let me know. Just did a full service on the bike - teardown, cleaned, and rebuilt. Frame bearings are still in excellent shape and spin freely without any sign of notching. Brakes have a lot of meat. Original tires, and still plenty of tread. Fork has been serviced once (at around the 50km mark as a warranty repair). The reason I'm selling is because I got the wrong size. I'm 5'11" with lanky arms and legs, and at this height I land right in between the Medium and Large on Giant's sizing chart. While the Medium felt like a better fit initially, I realized that I totally should have gotten the large instead after spending some more time with it. So, if you're on the market for a Reign and know that the Medium is the right fit - save some $$$! Geometry is the same as current year, so if you want to take one for a spin, I recommend going to the Giant bike shop in Vancouver to try it out. Chances are if you are looking at this ad, you probably already know what you're looking for. Local pickup preferred. Located in North Vancouver. -- Specs: (copied and pasted from Giant's website https://www.giant-bicycles.com/ca/reign-2-2016) Frame ALUXX SL-Grade Aluminum, 6.3"/160mm Maestro Suspension Fork RockShox Pike RC Solo Air, 15mm Thru-Axle, Giant Custom 46mm Offset, 160mm Shock RockShox Monarch R DebonAir Handlebar Giant Contact SL DH, 31.8 Stem Truvativ Holzfeller Seatpost Giant Contact SL Switch, 30.9 Saddle Giant Contact, Upright Pedals N/A Shifters Shimano Deore Front Derailleur Shimano Deore Rear Derailleur Shimano SLX, Shadow+ Brakes Shimano Deore, [F] 203mm [R] 180mm Brake Levers Shimano Deore Cassette Shimano HG50, 11-36, 10-Speed Chain KMC X10 Crankset Shimano Deore, 22/36 w/ MRP 2x Guide Bottom Bracket Shimano Press Fit Rims Giant P-AM2 27.5" Hubs Giant Tracker, [F] 15mm [R] DT Swiss 350 142x12mm, w/ SRAM Maxle TA Spokes Sapim Race Tires Schwalbe Hans Dampf, 27.5x2.35", Performance, Folding

Giant Anthem X1

$1400 CAD
Selling my 2010 Giant Anthem X1 due to a debilitating shoulder injury, and will be unable to ride for a while. I am the second owner of this awesome bike, and its ready to ride for this season. Excellent cross country machine. Beat all of your friends up the hill and across the land! Its seriously light. Frame size is large - I am about 5'11" but with longish limbs, and it fits me perfectly. I weigh about 150 lbs, so I definitely haven't stressed the bike out in any way. Previous owner was the same. This would probably be best for people around my height or taller. Specs can be found on Giant's website: http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-us/bikes/model/anthem.x1/3894/36666/#features This was the top of the line aluminum framed Anthem that Giant made in 2010, and retailed $4000 new, with full XT/XTR components. FRAME CONDITION: Regular wear and tear (paint chips and whatnot) with one ding on the top tube that is only cosmetic (see photos - I have a protective adhesive 'dot' on it). Frame is not cracked and is otherwise in in great condition. I do not do big hits or jumps on this bike. SERVICE NOTES: I've kept this bike in excellent shape and have overhauled it prior to this riding season. Work includes: - New shifting cables installed mid-season last year. - Brake fluid flush and new brake pads at the end of last season - Fox RP23 seal rebuild, with upgraded frame bushing (replaced Giant's crappy aluminum bushing with a cane creek bearing pivot), done by the guys at SuspensionWerx in North Van (http://suspensionwerx.com) - Relatively new rear cassette and chain - replaced mid-season last year. - Tires have 1 riding season in them, with plenty of tread left. Maxxis Crossmarks. - Replaced the grips with Race Face lock-on style grips. OTHER THINGS WORTH MENTIONING: - The Shimano XT Wheels are in excellent condition - previous owner did not use them at all (he had a different set of wheels), and I haven't put many kms on the wheels because I tend to go on short local rides. - Front forks are RockShox SID Team and have a remote lockout on handlebars - these are excellent forks that have great adjustability and feel on the trail. - Saddle looks worn, but its firm and really comfortable. I can throw in the SPD pedals if wanted - they're a bit worn but still function perfectly. Message me to coordinate viewing. Open to reasonable offers - this is an excellent deal for what you're getting!

Manitou Black Elite (mid s) & Race Face Diabolus Ste

$400 CAD
STOLEN PARTS FROM MY MOUNTAIN BIKE IN KITSILANO Parts of sentimental value to me - front of the bike was dismantled in bike room. Notable parts stolen include: - Single crown Manitou Black Elite fork (adjustable travel on the underside of fork). Overall condition not great, but the stanchions are still in great shape. No stickers on the fork. Needs major service to be sellable. - Black Race Face Diabolus stem (etched flames on the top and sides). Overall, these parts are not actually worth anything (were worth a lot when new when I got them YEARS ago). This is due to the fact that the stem does not fit current oversized tubing handlebars, and also because the fork needs new seals and oil. The service alone on this fork would probably exceed the current value of it. Please PM me if anyone sees these on the market.
