Kona Leaves Sea Otter Under Strange Circumstances
My friend who worked there for over 2 decades was recently laid off very poorly. He was scewed by Dan and Jake on the way out too, as were many staff. I am sure I will get hate, but I know things you don't. This industry has been hi-jacked by greedy fools too dumb to see that the Covid bump was not an indication of a lasting boom, so now there is a glut and all these snapped up brands will end up other than what they were, if they survive at all. Kona was always a problematic company, run by athletes, not business people. It is all very sad and and awful. Kona is dead, good, it was not that great a company to begin with. My friend and I have gone different ways now too, all I see is this industry is only for fat cats now, not poor people any more, it sickens me to see how parts standards have vanished too, greed and stupidity are the mainstays of for profit bike companies now, so sad.

Carbon Road Bike with Campy Groupo

$1200 CAD
I don't really want to trade (or sell) this bike, but I will go yet another whole season, now almost 57, and it will just hang on the wall all summer, work is too hard now, did I mention I was getting old, ridden to the moon by now in my bike riding life, not joking, I'm tired now, lol. I will trade for stuff like higher end stereo gear, guitars, amps, a cheap car (and cash from me possibly?), maybe a super nice computer (mine is a flaky dog), make an offer, but value for value, don't want a bunch of stuff, and straight money is fine. The frame is repaired, but not from a crash, I fell on it (ya, sad, I know), small crack from this, no displacement, no crashes or wet rides on this babied summer bike, 17+ lbs, new chain and brake pads come with (so will my repair support if needed down the road if you live near me, I totally rebuild this bike every other year when actually riding, will show you how, have all the tools), the entire drive train and shifters are very new, only second chain since casette and cranks replaced), immaculately maintained, just added a classic Easton carbon road bar, has leather Brooks tape, recently changed to some Kysrium Elite race wheels, only 1500+ grams, great all around wheel for bigger guys, bike fits 5' 10 - 6' 2", this bike is sorta modern, sorta vintage, but I will only let it go to someone who will ride it and take care of it like I have, otherwise I will just have to find an easier job and get back on it, lol. $1200 firm. TOL Dedacai frame, 1 kg, not underbuilt, but race light, bike still performs like any $4000+ new bike. Brian, please email!

Ultimate GTA Commuter/Uber Eats Bike

$999 CAD
I have moved back to BC, getting a bit old and am selling my one of a kind Kona Unit. If you live anywhere in Southern Ontario not near the escarpment this bike makes a perfect no-to-low maintenance commuter/utility/Uber Eats bike. I have impeccably maintained this bike and it should last decades more with the same care. The like-new cost of building this bike is $4000-5000. I am 6 feet, this is a 19 inch frame though and with the long seat post and/or a stem change can fit much less tall, and maybe up to 6' 3". Here is a highlight of the parts: Chris King Hubs and Headset, mint and recently serviced, OX Platinum Tubing, XT disks (one caliper replaced with lower end), Chorus Cranks, Easton Carbon Bar (one of the first), Thompson stem and seat post, Leather grips and Selle Italia Turbo (brown), Custom Fenders and a great basket (not on the bike right now). The drive train has all been recently replaced, ring, chain, and sprocket. The wheels were hand built by a renowned wheel builder in Van named Mark Bennett, Mavic rims. I have never had to true or tension either wheel and when this bike was newer it was ridden on the Shore (had an early Fox fork then, totally different set up). The parts in the photos may be older ones not on the bike anymore, the photo of the bike locked is the most current set up. Rides without making a sound (fender needs a new clamp though, so the fender flaps a bit now), unless you coast and then you hear the unmistakable sound of all those King indents as the pawls rain over them. There is minor cosmetic damage as for any bike this age. I will not sell this bike for part or to low ballers. I would rather not sell it at all then. My brother has the bike in Oakville. If you are serious I will connect you with him to see and test ride the bike. You have to be able to come see and/or pick it up, or my brother might be able to deliver it on his travels around the GTA. NO shipping, too many scams and hassles.

First Look: DT Swiss' New Ratchet EXP Hub Design
@dominic54: Amen my wise friend, pointless just for profit taking "innovation" is ruining grass roots everything and driving climate change (all industries that work on the planned obsolescence, endless progress model, not just cycling). Do people not see the real problem is our empty superficial values and the UNSOUND economic system that keeps pursuing them without recourse? They do the same with chocolate bars, the old bait and switch ; ). Isn't everyone tired of being treated as if they are stupid, oh wait most people sadly are brain eating zombies lately, : ( Cycling should be at the heart of how we change the way we move around and is a great social equalizer, so many health and stress and sleep and air quality problems, etc. are immediately solved by more people riding a basic but well built and MAINTAINABLE bicycle for most daily tasks and recreation, but the industry could really care less about this. This is not just a problem in cycling, it is everywhere, only the rich get to enjoy nice things anymore and not be worked to death for it. I keep my two 20 year old bikes going and got out of this madness around 2002, and I rode the shore before it became a global thing (I rode Ladies Only without any stunts on a XC bike with a 1 inch Judy and Cantis!!!), I have seen this in both tri's and cycling. I fear for the future of civilization. And before some troll responds I have a Science, Education, and Philosophy (master) degrees. If you don't state your credential and think you can attack me I will punish you. Time to wake up people. I am not a Lib-tard nor a Right wing conservative, both those poles are full of insane people. Emperor's New Clothes: time to reread that story, tick tock.
