ERGON GE1 Oil Slick clamps.

Press Release: Ergon

Los Angeles, California – Ergon USA is stoked to launch a limited edition run of aftermarket clamps for its GA2, GA3, GE1, GD1 and GFR1 grips collections. These oil slick grip clamps are the same high-quality aluminum as ERGON specs on all of its grips, but with a gloss oil slick finish — similar to some colorways of the GFR1 Factory and GD1 Evo Factory grips launched earlier this year.

My 92 year-old Grandma has a saying for stuff like this, "People are sheep."

I really hope they only cost 25 cents to make so that Ergon makes a boatload for herding the sheople. Beer

" My 92 year-old Grandma has a saying for stuff like this, "People are sheep."

So what you and your grandma are saying is: "Anyone that likes things that I don't like are sheep"?

Wasn't oilslick 2019? I would think 2021 would be the year of sanitary stainless finish.

"Our new grips are 30% more resistant to hand sanitizer then previous models, the sanitary stainless finish cleans up easily after your ride and more resistant to dirt, germs and viruses. Comes with a free matching face mask."

You're thinking of copper for an antibacterial metal.
  • 7 0
Actually my GA2 became very soft from hand sanitizer I used in the alp huts in Italy this summer. So beware!

Greta Thunberg does not agree with the color oil slick. Better go for the CO2-neutral color Electric Blue.

I just hope the matte color trend dies. Looks like crap and takes longer to clean dirt off.

@mtb-scotland: That's for keeping the werewolves off your grips.

The members of the Yeti FB group will be all over this!

 WRONG FAKE NEWS WRONG lolol

Will these make me ride like Nate Hills? I already bought four sb150s and none of them have made me as good as him. Maybe these are the ticket!

@LeoTProductions: Pretty sure you need to occasionally post a turquoise colored, non-bike related picture once every couple days to the group. The more hearts you get, the better a ride you become.

Those would look really nice with some black spray paint on them

I'm going the opposite direction, flash is out, plain is in.
  • 5 0
but how will we identify your whip?
  • 9 2
Completely agree, I don't want my bike to look like a clown-show, the only extra flair I'm looking for is mud.

@blowmyfuse: hes running no grips at all, just the blank bar
  • 3 0
Been doing that for years now. Black is always the new black.
  • 16 0
when i'm grown up, i am going to build a bike from oil slick parts only. just to annoy everybody.
  • 4 0
 Plenty of them about

Already a played out trend in BMX. It's kind of funny oil slick is becoming trendy in MTB when it's run it's course in BMX and now no serious rider would be caught dead on oil slick parts.
  • 4 0
@shami: got to sell all those remaining tins of oil slick paint somewhere...
  • 16 0
 Extremely limited my arse.
  • 11 0
It's marketing speak for the general slower and lower capacity supply chain situation right now.
  • 6 1
Yeah, that's a pretty shameless marketing tactic there.
  • 3 0
Limited to how many people will buy them.
  • 14 0
"Deep Water Horizon" colorways polluting all the components.
  • 7 0
to each their own but ... if they are gonna do that whjy dont they make a "design you grip" tab on their page and let us do different clamp color combos with grip and offer more than three seat colors
  • 10 1
Now this is the front page material I come for!
  • 7 1
I got the factory ge1s for the sole reason that they come with black text on black clamps instead of the normal white text on black clamp. Should probably sharpie the end caps as well.
  • 8 0
yea but do the end caps still fall out?
  • 2 0
 Yeah that sucks.
  • 5 0
I've gone one better with my ergon grips and put oil slick bolts on the oil slick collars.

Can't wait for this oil slick trend to die off
  • 2 0
Now they just need to sell grips without clamps. I already have a handful of black Ergon clamps that I kept thinking maybe I'll need if I strip a thread or something, but nope, they just pile up since every grip comes with a set.

It seems i'm alone in this... but i like it. I still like the oil slick colour options (although i don't have any oil slick components myself other than a pair of valve caps that came free with MBUK magazine). It's not for everyone but it looks fun and i like fun colours.
  • 2 1
It's so dumb. They are super late to the game AND, I think this year is the die off of oil slick already. It was the rise and the fall of it pretty quick. And, these things are more overpriced than a Trek and Santa Cruz combined...

would be overkill with my Bismuth pedals.
  • 9 0
Bismuth has 33 isotopes with mass numbers ranging from 185 to 217. Of these only 209Bi is considered to be effectively stable, although it is actually radioactive with an extremely slow rate of alpha particle decay: its half-life is 1.9 x 1019 years. If precisely 100 grams of 209Bi had been present at the beginning of the universe 14 billion years ago, 99.9999999 grams of it would still be around today.

I have had GD1 Evo grips on back order since August, would be neat if those were manufactured first before oil slick clamps.... @ergonbike
  • 2 0
Okay so in my area that’s like the equivalent price of like 8 tacos so not worth it IMO.
  • 3 0
Companies are still making new oil slick?
  • 3 1
It's good to know that ergon is busy producing trash like this instead of making grips that actually fit large hands.
  • 2 0
 you’ve tried their fat grips?
  • 1 0
@etownrider3: Yep, they are larger in diameter but not overall length. You would think they would extend the length for large hands as well.
  • 3 0
 Just order complete grips..
  • 2 1
That's what I did. Put the green ones on another bike and put the oil slick clamps on my main bike.

My favourite grips ever are the GE1 and GD1!

Only the blue grips and the orange grips look good with the overstated ERGON logo colors.
