This weekend was the last race for 2011 & it ended the season with a bang!

Lots of crashing, flats, heat & dust making it an epic weekend in Contermanskloof.

I went through on the Saturday to catch the guys practising. The track has been closed for a few months just for this race & it really made a huge difference having a pristine track to race on & the times proved it.

That was it for day 1, the track is completely open as you can see which has it's ups & downs. The best part is you can shoot the rider pretty much all the way down from one spot if you have a beast lens & makes it very spectator friendly. The down side is there is no shade & escaping the summer sun is rather challenging, so I felt like dusty biltong after a few hours on the slopes.

Getting up on Sunday was tough, feeling toasted & with dead legs I made my way through. I knew a little drop off that had some shade nearby in the morning & that was my post for the 1st runs.

Mid run break dancing?

In the middle of the 1st run Gustav Brandt went over the edge of a berm & broke his collar bone quite badly & had to be taken to hospital (sort that wing out quick Goose!). That left us with a 90min wait for the ambulance to return & the shady spot of mine was small, but at least had Marc, Julian, Alex & a few others to talk nonsense to.

For the 2nd run I stayed down at the bottom near a small ski jump & also had a nice view of a drop off, hip & berm & was snapping them all the way down & guys were getting loose over the hip & in the berm after it.

Where was Minnaar? He seems to never race the local SA races. Maybe letting others get a chance.

This was a provincial race & he's not from the Western Cape... although I haven't seen him at a Nationals yet either, but he's probably just busy or needs time out.
